I write to say Divvy compares favorably to similar services in major cities. I was in Chicago for two days on business. I rented a bicycle three times. I used the Lyft app. In every instance, there were multiple bikes, including with e-assist, at the nearest station; the first one I pulled out worked fine; and they appeared clean and kept up very nicely. My experience extends from New York City to Washington, D.C. to San Francisco (and scooters in Los Angeles). I have reported here, as a regular user, that I'd estimate many docks are empty, at least of the models with e-assist; a third of the bikes are in disrepair; and minor issues such as sticky handlebars or trash left in the front bin are common. I continue to use this service because it is effective. I'm also mindful the price point likely allows for not that much profit, the users in the system (like me) are treating these objects without reverence (as you would your own fancy e-bike), and they sit outside exposed to the elements. Thus, if you take everything into account, what the company must be calculating is the minimum level of functionality to retain subscribers and lure casual users, consistent with a modicum of profit. That is the reality. So I continue to ride. But I felt I should post to say of the major metropolitan areas I have named, I'd rate Divvy in Chicago as the best, based on three uses.

Agreed. Totally horrific customer service. They tried to up charge me for a Lyft add on, and when I asked for a refund on that (because I wasn't notified of the change), they cancelled my annual subscription that I have still some months on. Deceptive business practices for sure. I call/email them every day and have experienced the same crappy experiences that all of the other reviewers have experienced. They totally suck. My friends have stopped using, and I am following suit. Such a bummer, because it was such a great company before Lyft. Speaking of Lyft.... Never riding you again either.

Initial trying to use these things were confusing, I did my bike rentals from the app which showed random bikes in town as well as the hub stations. After not being successful getting random bike that I though was available I just got each bike from the hubs in the area. Divvy is part of Lyft so if you already have a Lyft account when you download the Divvy app it automatically connects you. The price for an e-bike was 18 cents per minute and a regular bike you get the first 45 minutes free (I think if you have the pink Lyft membership perks) then any additional minute after that is 18 cent. The docking stations are a bike of a pain in the ass to get the bikes back in and docked, but as long as you make sure it connects and locks you should have any issue getting over charged. I preferred the regular bike over the ebike because the e-bike sound like they're going to crumble anytime you go over a dip in the road, the regular bike make for a more comfortable ride through the city.

I was unable to dock my bike (none were available and the single one was broken). So they want to charge me $112 for a 13 minute Ride. Then i went to find the bike, and THEY LOCKED MY ACCOUNT and threatened to charge me a lost bike fee. This is after i contacted their help IMMEDIATELY. I cant scan the bikes for the right number because they locked mt account and half of the older bikes have NO identifying number. I'm screwed.

Ebike was like a ready to fall apart jalopy every time went over a bump and alot of bumps. The cost $47 (included $5 discount for 105 minutes is goofy expensive. I passed lots of other ebikes on Chicago lake front...did everyone realize how much they would be charged. The big victory is completed on a beautiful day and was not overcharged.

Horrible experience: I scanned a bike, the app said the closest available one to reserve was seven minutes away, I walked away but the app silently started running the meter on that bike, when I scanned another bike a few blocks away I was told I had a ride in progress, I raced back but the first bike was gone, and someone else rode it for more than an hour while I tried to get customer support to cancel the ride. Refund refused. I've logged out of my account (which Divvy will not let you delete), I've deleted the app, and I will dispute the charge. What a terrible company! I would give zero stars for this experience if I could.

One of the drivers picking up bikes on Sheriadan Road was blocking a lane and illegally parked. So what did I do? I called customer support (in India), who had no Idea where Sheridan Road is or where Loyola University is located in Chicago, nor where Lake Shore Drive is located. Next time, I will take a photo of the license plate and will call 911, and make a formal complaint with the CPD. This company is scummy. And I told him that. We have to park legally in the City and pay our parking tickets or get booted. If I were sitting there like the driver, I know I would be ticketed and probably towed.

We had a very bad experience trying to rent some bikes from Divvy on a day in Chicago and I wanted to warn people about this service. We tried to rent 4 bikes to ride along the lake for an hour or so. I'll spare you all the details, but the docks weren't working properly and we could only get 3 bikes unlocked after much effort, and the very buggy app charged me for an additional ride which never happened and which I could not cancel. I spent an hour on chat with their support (not sure if it was a human or bot) which was almost completely useless. I was told that the only way to end this non-existent ride was for the bike to get docked -- even though it had never left the dock! No solution was offered. The punch line is that after we gave up and left Illinois to go home, 9 hours later I got a notification that the "ride" had mysteriously ended. They claimed I had their bike for over 500 minutes and charged me over $100, for a bike which never got undocked in the first place. I emailed customer support, but after reading the other reviews here (oh, how I wish I'd read them ahead of time!) I'm not hopeful about getting a quick resolution. Fortunately my credit card company seems to be willing to work with me to fight these bogus charges. Be wary, don't trust Divvy! It seems like a great concept but the technology is clearly not reliable.
