Great opportunity to see a lot of really cool art from all over the world in many different styles. I'm not sure if the gallery owners/reps have this "I don't care vibe" and that's whats cool and expected in the art world, but most were just on their phones or computers when I walked by/walked into their booth. Some I talked to were friendly but most didn't seem like they wanted to be approached or exchange with potential customers. I did the guided tour which I strongly recommend - I think to see a bit more a 1.5-2hr would be preferred over the 1hr, but maybe just me.

I have attended this Expo for several years and always see art work I like. Sometimes I see artwork I don't like or understand. There is a lot to see, so plan accordingly (at least 3 hours, a couple days would be better.) They have talks with people in the artworld, which I usually find interesting. There have been area which show some videos. The food in the expo area is so-so and overpriced. Some of the people at the different galleries seem more interested in their laptops, or books, than talking with the patrons. Almost every year, I have ended up talking with at least one of the artist displaying their work, purely by accident because I didn't know who they were. I would suggest you attend and sometimes you can get a deal for admission through Groupon.

For the first time in years I didn't have conflicts this weekend and could attend a second time: quickly it came back: 1) this is overwhelmingly huge--you really could spend all day here. 2) It's like going to the Chicago Modern Art Museum x 100 (size/scale); 3) nearly every booth as something fascination, it is a treasure trove of many approaches to modern art; 4) every 20 minutes there is something stunning or remarkably clever--no other art event will give you this type of rush; 5) some very interesting people to look at as well! The artists are out in full force; 6) I feel like a country bumpkin when even thinking to talk to any of the curators, who will generally ignore you even when you make a comment sort of directed to them, cold as ice; 7) Some quite prominent modern artists just sitting there with no guards to yell at you like in the museums, a great change to see things up close; 8) lists are for idiots. Come yearly if you can, I would if I could
