I don't know where my previous review of Green Shirt Studio went, but I am thrilled to have the opportunity to review these guys again! I can honestly say that Green Shirt Studio has changed my life. The best decision I ever made was on one Sunday in January 2011, I went to a all-day Meisner workshop, where I met Andrew Gallant and Sommer Austin. Several years ago, I completed levels 1-5, and I just keep coming back for more. Currently, I am taking the Accelerated Meisner course, which is 100% worth the investment! Not only does this work "get me out of my head" and help me with my acting, I find that it has made me a better communicator when it comes to public speaking, job interviews, and professional development. Throughout the years, Sommer and Andrew have helped me in so many ways, as both a theatre artist and a professional arts administrator. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be where I am today in my career without their belief in my abilities, their careful coaching, and their commitment to supporting the goals of their students. Above and beyond that, they have continued to provide outlets that have expanded my skills as an administrator, which helped me get my fledgling career off of the ground after college. For that, I will always be grateful. Hands down, the best acting training money can buy in Chicago! Thanks Sommer and Andrew!

I can't begin to express the impact that Green Shirt Studio has had on my life. Almost 2 years ago, I was cast as an extra in a big-budget Hollywood film. Little did I know at the time that my life was about to take a huge, unexpected turn. I was bitten by the acting bug and consciously sought out a way to make my dreams a reality. A few months later, I was standing in The Green Shirt Studio, my first professional acting class; filled with anticipation, excitement and apprehension. My first few weeks were extremely terrifying and thrilling. Under the watchful eye of one of the most caring instructors I have ever encountered, Andrew Gallant helped me break down some very difficult barriers and constructed a new-found confidence and an immense love for acting. In the following year and a half that I spent my Saturday mornings, I had the honor of watching my fellow classmates grow in more ways than we could ever imagine and discover how to truly live on the stage. Upon my initial search, I sought out the help of Yelp! reviews to decide where I should study. Green Shirt had the best reviews to be found for Chicago. If you look up their old location, you should hopefully be able to read the reviews that lead me here to begin with. I have completed the entire Meisner program, including the conservatory, and performed the showcase alongside my fellow classmates in front of 20 of represented talent agents in Chicago. Andrew and Sommer have been such incredible influences on my growth as an actor and as a person. The program has seriously changed my life in such a profound way and I'm so proud and grateful to be a Green Shirt alum!

Green shirt studio is the place I learned to develop acting skills, strong interpersonal skills, and be part of a supportive community. In over a year, i've had training in: meisner method, body awareness and movement, vocal training, delivering monologues, cold readings and even yoga. This was my first encounter with any acting training, and I could not have asked for a better experience. Strongly recommend checking out one of their free workshops to see for yourself, and get involved!

Ok you can stop your search right here and right now - this place IS the best and yes you should come here!!! I reallyreallyreally wanted to act when I was 10-11, but as the greatest ever Beastie Boys once said, parents just don't understand and then my schooling/career took on a life of its own. Flash forward to present day and I finally had the freedom-time-0 idea where to start. After an exciting and intimidating online search, I found the reviews for this studio to be the most promising and along the lines of what I thought I might be looking for... Flash forward again to how I felt during/after my 1st class which I can only describe as that uncontainable euphoria of something you were really hoping for being everything you dreamed of and more. The studio has a fun but focused vibe, the teachers (we've had Ashlea and Claire) are passionate, wise, positive forces truly encouraging and supportive of every member of the class (and to say we are a diverse group is a super understatement). The lessons are obviously geared toward acting but can permeate to how you approach life which makes for such an awesome and enriching experience. These classes have for sure changed my life while making a lifelong dream come true and I'm just getting started! Hopefully you're familiar with Scorpion of Mortal Kombat - but either way - get over here!

The Meisner Method Training at Green Shirt Studio transformed my acting and helped me to reach new levels. The depth of emotion that it helped me bring out in the characters that I have played has truly touched others like never before. Green Shirt was highly recommended by a friend, and I couldn't have been happier with my experience. Andrew and Sommer truly care about their students and have become great friends, I look forward to taking more classes at Green Shirt Studio in the future to further expand my acting.

My original review from Jan 2013 disappeared from Yelp, probably because the business moved to a different address. So here it is again, with an UPDATE below: I took the free Meisner workshop by GreenshirtStudio back in early 2010 and was blown away. And, it's been a while since having finished levels 1 through 4 of the Meisner training at the studio. Meanwhile, I've made some really great friends, met many gifted professional and amateur actors, and tested my own limits as a person and artist. To borrow a relevant quote... "Theatre is a safe place to do the unsafe things that need to be done." And, in my experience, the co-owners and head instructors of the studio have created such an atmosphere - of safety, challenge, compassion, and fun :D so that I can show up on the stage as my life and the script before me demand. Unfortunately, and as with many refined artforms, the Meisner Technique can turn into a perversion of the art of acting in less able hands... this is evident from my stage time and conversations with students of other Meisner schools. Thankfully for the Chicago theatre community, GreenShirtStudio has done a remarkable job in setting an example of what a true Meisner acting studio can and should be. UPDATE (Aug 2015): It's been a couple years since I reviewed this studio and I have to say that it still holds a special place in my heart. I inevitably mention it to people I talk to who are even remotely interested in theatre/acting/creative expression. It made such a positive difference for me personally and I have so many fond memories of the classes I took!! My recommendation is to do what I did and take one of their free acting workshops, which the studio offers from time to time. It's a way to try out the work and the studio with minimal investment on your part. I recently checked their website and they do still offer them, so that hasn't changed. Yes, the classes have tuition but it's also clear that the studio is not out to make money at the expense of artistic integrity - all the instructors I'd met LOVED what they do, and it shows.

I have taken Meisner levels I-IV with Green Shirt over the past year after finding them on Yelp. I am now happy to recommend them without reservation. I was a theater major in college and have taken acting classes, including Meisner, many years ago. My classes with Green Shirt marked the end of a 10 year hiatus for me. I am very glad I started my Green Shirt classes back at the beginning--with Meisner I. My classmates were diverse in their experience level, age and background. The lessons systematically helped me to feel less stuck inside my head and helped me to begin connecting authentically with others. It was an exhilarating and extremely rewarding feeling. I found the instructors to be knowledgeable, passionate and insightful. They challenged me and yet were also wonderfully compassionate and sensitive. I am looking forward to continuing on with them and would recommend them for actors of any experience level.

The acting classes in Meisner are great here. They also offer free Friday workshops and classes, as well as classes in improv and other acting techniques. They also have many workshops on topics of interest to aspiring actors. It's an intimate little studio, and you get a lot of one on one attention along with a lot of constructive criticism. I met a lot of very talented people here. Turns out I'm a horrible actor, but the classes here are great.
