Ok I wasn't expecting much from a tiny food court at a grocery store with literally one stall and like 4 tables total. Very tiny area, and quite crowded because lots of people are in line to try the food. But WOW was I surprised!! They have a self serve water station, and when you're finished with the food, you bring your own tray back to the counter. WARNING: we had to wait upwards of 50 min for our food after ordering even though there were only a few parties ahead of us, and finding a table is reallyyyy tough especially if you have more than 2 ppl. Don't eat here if you're in a rush! We tried the jaeyuk bokkeum (spicy marinated pork) which came with such a mountain generous portion in those traditional Korean school lunch trays. Comes with three assorted banchan - I don't even like fish cake and I found it absolutely delicious!! There was also a fish soup it came with - yum!! For me, the pork was a bit too spicy and I embarrassingly had to dip it in cold water to wash off some of the spice, but dang this was SO freaking delicious and so flavorful!!! The spicy aroma and the pork fat mixed into the meat made it literally so addicting. The galbi tang came with three huge beef ribs and a small amount of glass noodles. Was pretty good, also came with three Banchan and rice.

This is the most affordable Korean eatery in Chicago. The portion of rice, sides, and entree for the price is almost unbelievable compared to the regular Korean restaurants. My tofu soup tasted good and carried a good amount of tofu and seafood. If you want to sit down though, there's very limited seating. No issues with service.

Small comfortable restaurant within the Joong Boo market on Kimball. The crowded quarters add to the experience taking you into the corner restaurant experience n Korea. Order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. There are 2 monthly specials that are good deals. When eating in Ban Chan of kimchee and other small plates is included. Meals can be spicey and make you sweat but the heat is not uncomfortable. I want emphasize that the eating area is small but the turnover is fast so usually a table opens before your food is cooked. For the same food but less atmosphere the Glenview Joong Boo on north Milwaukee has the same menu and specials. The space there is large and wide open.

Been 5-6 years of regular customer here and always ordering Galbi Tang but last 6,7 visit was not the same. Soup was half of the bowl and also no glass noodle in soup as usual. Totally disappointed this branch. Too loud music inside market. Korean lady taking orders angry somewhat.

No better spot than this for quick, homestyle, Korean food! So filling and so many options to try. I appreciate the steel trays and cups for water (minimal disposable items!). And the staff are very friendly. We often miss the closing because it's on the early side, but the outdoor stand for steamed buns is a perfectly lovely substitute and they're open later.

I've seen this little corner cafe every time I've shopped at Joong Boo and it's always full. Today I finally decided to try it for lunch. The seating is very very limited and cramped, but I guess this adds to the charm. I decided to get the udon noodle soup. It comes with a side of kimchi (some of I've tried) and the whole dish is a healthy portion. The dish itself was average nothing special, but just a solid broth with udon (flavor it on the lighter side). Another dish we got was 16. A spicy beef and vegetable soup with rice and sides. The beef was stringy, in my opinion, but again a healthy portion. The spicy broth also builds the heat as you eat. The wait was not excessively long, but longer than anticipated for a place like this (15-20 minutes).

Great affordable korean food tucked into the Joong Boo market. The prices here are really affordable and the portions are pretty big. This is probably the best value korean restaurant I've found in the area so far. Be aware though that the restaurant closes a few hours before the rest of the grocery.

Amazing variety of Korean classic dishes. Reasonably priced and delicious. I take my Dad there when we are in the mood for Hwae Do Bop. The Korean Poke' bowl.
