Had a good visit to this small museum of art. It doesn't take long to have a look. Loyola University Museum Of Art is located on its Water Tower Campus and often is appointment only. Closed a lot and unreliable hours. The museum has a lot of medieval paintings and sculptures. A unique museum that explores the spiritual in art. It has all cultures and faiths. The Martin D'Arcy Collection has art from the Baroque, medieval, and Renaissance. An interesting history about him. He was a British humanist and theologian who collected it at Campion Hall on Oxford University. Collection has over 300 pieces including paintings, sculptures, and other art. This had been in the library of the Lake Shore Campus before moving. Basic looking place but there's a lot packed inside. It's closed Mondays. The hours can be screwy so call before going or check the website.

What an amazing space. I went with some friends to see the Joan of Arc Project and it was amazing. They had several other exhibits on display. The space is beautiful. They have a small shop and there is nearby parking After 5 it's 15 dollars And of course there is dining all around

Wonderful museum; too bad they are closed for over a year. Most other museums in the area are open at least with limited hrs. Hope they will re-open and welcome the public back, then they will get the 5 stars on yelp.

This is a great art museum. It's one of the first places I went to after moving back to Chicago and it did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to revisiting LUMA on a regular basis.

This new art museum has recently opened with an exhibit about the great Italian artist Caravaggio. The trick is that there are no actual paintings in this exhibit. This self-proclaimed "digital revolution of art" reveals the master's works in digital reproductions. I would visit on the free day (Tuesday) and save your spending money for one of the nearby stores. Hopefully the LUMA will fill the void left by the closing of the Terra Museum of Art.

Shot downtown to visit the museum before my evening flight. I show up and find out it is FREE until June! I also have no idea what exhibits are available as this was a last minute impulse stop. Plenty of street meter parking in the surrounding blocks, but it was a Tuesday afternoon. The tour guide, Ruth, offered to show me around as there was no one for her scheduled Noon group. I don't typically go around with a guide, I was slightly apprehensive but open to it. Ruth was great. She had a lot of knowledge about the artists and things prevalent to their work. I have to say that she made me enjoy the photography exhibit much more than I would have just on my own and you could tell she really cared about shedding light on the artist's message they were sending. I only made it through the 2nd floor, I never made it to the top permanent exhibit floor. If I had been looking on my own I would have made it through the entire building. But since Ruth had so much information it took about 1.5hr. There was a photography exhibit and then a mixed media collage artist from Milwaukee that I really enjoyed. I will return!

Loved it! Entrance is free. Gallery is only small but boy I liked their exhibits. The current exhibits by Gregory Beals: They Arrived Last Night; Tonika Lewis Johnson: Everyday Englewood and the permanent displays at the third floor were great. Staff were also accommodating and provided me a bit of an overview as soon as I got in.

We stopped here after visiting Chanel boutique on Michigan Ave over Labor Day. There were a lot of museum staff for this small space. But, it was nice that it is free instead of $8 per person. From the Yelp reviews, I had a hard time to believe that some felt it was too expensive. However, after seeing the 2 exhibits- 1 special and another permanent. I could see why some felt this way if they paid for admission. The special exhibit was not to my taste with photography of Pigeon Hill. Anyways, we finished in 5-10 minutes and were out shortly after seeing the gift shop. Some ground rules- no backpacks so check-in at front desk and no photography at all. There is a restroom around the corner which is nice.

I visited the museum during the week and there was no entrance fee. Between that and the prime location, it was already a excellent deal. The space itself is fantastic. The regular exhibits are on the third floor and the seasonal/temporary exhibits are shown on the second floor. Much of the art on the third floor is religious in nature, but it is a very interesting collection of different media types. Many of the exhibits date back from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance period. On the day that I visited, the second floor had two exhibits by different photographers. One was a very intriguing collection of photos taken in Somalia and the other concentrated on a group of transgender persons in South Africa. While there was not much in the way of happiness or positive images to be found in the exhibit depicting Somalia, it was insightful and moving. The South Africa exhibit depicted a group of outsiders without much, other than the support of each other, some bright outfits, and finding happiness where they can. If you happen to be in the Gold Coast/River North neighborhood and find yourself in need of break from shopping or the office, I recommend a visit to LUMA.

I arrived here Saturday afternoon, friends and kid in tow, to see the The Art of Democracy exhibit, having misread the Time Out Chicago listing and didn't realize the exhibit doesn't open until September 6th. One thing I discovered that may seem like I'm being cheap but it does say something about this "Museum." Unlike most museums of substance, at least in Chicago, "LUMA" as it self-dubs, does not admit academics with faculty ID's gratis. BLECH. There is a reason museums do this: it's very good business, i.e., maybe a teacher would see an exhibit and bring a class? This is a university "museum" that doesn't accomodate the faculty of other universities. Like I said: BLECH. I haven't surveyed the other many university-housed museums in the city to discern their policies, but to me a "museum" that doesn't comp teachers is no museum at all, but rather a gallery pretending to be something it is not.
