Our DJ Nicole did an awesome job at our wedding! Our dance floor was full all night, and everyone had an awesome time. She coordinated all of our speeches and first dances and always made sure to keep a pulse on the songs to keep people on the dance floor. Great experience with Music by Design. Only downside is they send SO MANY marketing emails! So glad my wedding is over so I can stop getting those - it makes no sense that they send emails to people who already booked their services!

I would like to start this off by saying I emailed this company a month after my wedding with the following feedback and they never answered. I also posted this experience on another wedding website and I believe this company had my review taken down. I have yet to hear from anybody at music by design. we hired music by design for our June 29, 2025 wedding. we first met with our DJ the Thursday before our Sunday wedding. we told him what specific songs we wanted for specified moments. the processional song we chose was supposed to be an instrumental song, and we emphasize that because in their system we couldnt link to the instrumental version. before the ceremony, I was going over timing details with the DJ and again said all ceremony music was instrumental. lo and behold the DJ played the non instrumental version of the song which unfortunately had pretty explicit lyrics, which is why we wanted to instrumental version played. it took him about a minute to turn it off and play something else. then he messed up the timing for the brides processional song because of it. after the ceremony, he approached us and proceeded to laugh in our faces about the mix up. claimed the office sent him that song and he listened to it with his wife and thought it was an odd choice, but I guess not enough to confirm it with us? we had given him a playlist for dinner and specific requests for dancing. We had 3 charli xcx songs on our request list and all three were played back to back. it was like 10 straight mins of charli xcx and some of our friends made comments, so it was noticeable and seemed extremely lazy on the djs behalf. we also provided a do not play list. we had guests coming up to us all night complaining that they were requesting songs and being told no it's on the do not play list. I'm not really sure why the DJ needed to communicate that to our guests because it did get back to us.

AMAZING! Our wedding was 5/27/23. We had Jim as our DJ, and he was great! Jim played amazing music-perfect for our crowd. We had a lot of older guests and he played a lot of music catered to them. Then as the night went on he played more 90's, 2000's music for the younger crowd that stayed. We made a couple of adjustments throughout our wedding and he was so flexible and chill about it. My dad wanted to transition to songs during the father daughter dance and Jim did it beautifully. I wanted our exit song for the ceremony to start at a certain verse and he did it so easily. Jim was great and pleasure to work with. Music by design was so easy to work with as well! My husband and I actually were going to book another DJ who was not communicative with us, told us one thing one time and another thing, another time, had hidden fees. When I was booking with music by design, Music by design actually told me what the hidden fee was for (event insurance). Music by design was the complete opposite, they were straightforward and up front about their policies and procedures. Very reasonably priced and I was able to chat them before my wedding to ask a few questions. Also, they have this website that you input all of your musical selection into-it was so easy.

Jim (James) was our DJ and he was 5 stars!!! Communicated well in our meeting the week of the wedding and also night of. He had the great energy we were looking for and nailed the song choices! We had so much fun thanks to the music he played. Dj was one of our most important vendors and he delivered!

Our wedding DJ, Nicole, was absolutely amazing!! She completely exceeded our expectations. The music was perfect, she followed our must-play and do-not play list perfectly, and kept a great pulse on the mood making adjustments when needed. I got so many compliments from everyone that gave speeches, that Nicole found them well in advance and gave them an overview of what to expect, but without distracting from anything! As great as Nicole was, Dave at Music by Design was pretty unbearable... to the point where I requested that he no longer contact me before the event and requested to be put in touch with my DJ 6 months in advance, so I wouldn't have to deal with him anymore. Please recognize that you do not need to call to follow-up on inquiries every few days and leave voicemails. This almost pushed us to book a different vendor, but once we were in touch with Nicole there were no issues.

DJ Andrew was wonderful to work with. We had a lot of long, difficult-to-pronounce names in our bridal party and he did a great job of remembering the pronunciations. In addition, we had a microphone issue before our ceremony and DJ Andrew jumped in to find a solution for the situation. He kept the party going even after a long day (everyone was still on the dancefloor when the night ended) and we got many compliments on the music. Overall, working with MusicByDesign was a good experience. Their website is well organized and it's easy to give detailed information and make song selections. When they did not have songs in their library that we wanted played, we sent them MP3s and DJ Andrew played them. Samantha helped us iron out all of the last minute details. The only reason I am giving a 4 instead of a 5 is because 1. This company sends TOO MANY EMAILS. I couldn't unsubscribe because the newsletters/offers/spam came from the same email address as our contact at the main office. I found this to be very annoying because when a real email came through that we needed to take action on, it was much harder to distinguish because I got at least 1 email a day from them for a year. 2. I found it frustrating that we couldn't speak with our DJ until the week of our wedding. I understand the reasoning behind it, but our wedding week was extremely busy (as everyone's is) and I would have preferred to be able to speak with Andrew at least the week before rather than leaving things down to the last minute.

We got married a couple weeks ago and we are still getting compliments from our guests about how great the music was and how much fun they had dancing. Our DJ, Nicole, knew how to read the crowd. She kept people of all ages on the dance floor the whole night. I really feel a DJ can make or break a wedding and Nicole really made our wedding awesome! It was also nice that Music By Design had a great planning website to put our "must play" and "do not play" songs as well as fill in our timeline for the night. Nicole did a great job following our requests as well as our timeline by keeping things moving. We couldn't have been happier with our choice!

I originally requested a quote from this company in order to get a budget set for my wedding, which is not until 2020. After requesting this quote, I was bombarded with phone calls and voicemails from them. When I finally answered their call, I let them know that I would reach out when I was ready and to please take me off the list because of the excessive phone calls. Unfortunately, this seemed to offend Sam and she so graciously mentioned that, for my information, they only called me three times. Of course, I went back to my phone log to check and saw that within the week I was able to find 8 phone calls from them. It was unnecessary on her part to falsy defend her self when it is not difficult to track phone calls. I would have gone with this company but I am glad I didn't with the issues I am having this early on.

We evaluated a number of DJ's for our wedding in the west loop of Chicago. We are BEYOND pleased with our decision to go with Music by Design. The service agreement was straight forward, and they made us feel very comfortable that their goals were our goals. The music selection process was incredibly easy and we received exceptional customer service from Dave leading up to the event. All that being said, our biggest delight was the execution of the day-of festivities. Our DJ (Eric) was amazing. From the ceremony to the cocktail hour and reception, everything went perfect. We have been getting texts, emails and social media posts about how much fun everyone had on the dance floor. Music by Design was a tremendous value and I cannot recommend them enough.

This is the one service I never actually received multiple quotes or scheduled multiple meetings for. We saw Music By Design at a bridal show, with three guys in suits being normal, professional and un-cheesy, with competitors being aggressive, cheesy and even a little sleazy. Music By Design was the best even on the first impression. We reached out to Music by Design shortly after. I have no regrets. The sales process was easy, we met our DJ Eric upfront, and then they left us alone unless we needed them. We had almost a year to request songs and their portal was overall easy to use. Eric then scheduled a call with us the week of our wedding. I had a situation that prevented me from making our call, and Eric was just understanding and didn't act the slightest bit annoyed and took my call when I called him back an hour later. Eric was a total professional on the day of the wedding. He showed up early, acquainted himself with my officiant and my caterer, and was organized and kept things properly timed and synced up with the events throughout the night. He and my caterer managed the schedule together, and he was really calm and professional in coming to nudge us about spotlight dances, speeches and the bouquet hand-off. Most importantly, the music was great. I got compliments about both our pre-processional music and the cocktail and dinner playlists. He was good at putting together a cohesive mix of music based on our requests. When the dance floor opened up, it was packed the whole night because Eric read the room well. Our party lasted until midnight, just like we had wanted.
