# Oakwood Beach – A Hidden Gem on Chicago's South Side

Oakwood Beach, also known as 41st Street Beach, is a tranquil retreat located at 4100 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL. This lesser-known beach offers a serene escape from the bustling city, making it a favorite among locals. Opened in 2010, Oakwood Beach features essential amenities such as restrooms, a beach house, and grilling spots, all set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Michigan. Visitors appreciate its cleanliness and the peaceful atmosphere, often highlighting the beach's family-friendly environment. With easy access via the Lakefront Trail, Oakwood Beach stands out as a perfect spot for relaxation, recreation, and enjoying nature's beauty.

Chill beach on the South Side that doesn't get too crowded. It certainly is one of the lesser known ones. Oakwood Beach isn't as popular but that doesn't mean it's bad though. Has bathrooms. There's also spots for grilling. A place that honestly seems like a locals beach. It gets its name from being between the Oakland and Kenwood neighborhoods on the South Side. This is also called 41st Street Beach because that's the location of this. It's one of the city's newest beaches. This one actually hasn't been around that long, having only been open since 2010. Has concessions. There's a beach house with bathrooms and showers. Best way to get here is with a bicycle. It's located along the Lakefront Trail and it's a convenient stop. This is also kind of close to the Kenwood Metra station if wanting to use public transportation.

This is my most favorite beach in the city. Small and slow in traffic. I can't wait to spend as much time as possible this summer. Walk. Ride a bike. Play some basketball l. Read a book. Listen to music. Take a nap - but not really cause it's still Chicago. Sit in complete silence and remain in awe of nature and its creation. You get the vibe.

We live in one of the best cities in the world w/one of the Great Lakes. We are truly blessed to have access to Lake Michigan. Over my life I have been able to witness the many seasons of Lake Michigan from both sides of the lake (in Chicago & in Michigan). Today 05/17/19 is one of those near perfect days temperature wise in Chicago, sunny and close to 70 degrees w/very little humidity. Today on the way back from Hyde Park I stopped at the Oakwood Beach/41st Street Beach. I was treated to near perfect weather & aspectacular view of the Chicago Skyline facing north, the magnificent lake facing east and the beach to the south. I love Lake Michigan and all it has to offer. People need to slow down and enjoy the beauty of what we have in Chicago

Stopped by Oakwood Beach (41st Street Beach) on Wednesday and really enjoyed my time there. The beach is well kept and although there was a little bit of trash, it's significantly cleaner than any other beach I've seen in Chicago. I recommend everyone check it out & I'd love to go back soon too. Since I was there on a Wednesday morning/afternoon there weren't as many people around. I really liked that the other beach-goers were young families, people reading and just hanging out while enjoying themselves by the water. There are public bathrooms available and everything looked like it was sprayed down and wet, but it was still clean & I appreciate that effort. I can't emphasize how much nicer this area is than the more popular beaches in the city, I was actually surprised that a low traffic beach would be as clean as it is. There is parking available for this beach, but it's a bit further up north. Depending on the accessibility you need, the official parking area may be better fit for you than looking for another spot. The area that the beach is located in is really nice. Other than the actual sandy part of the beach, there are green lakefront trails, cement lakefront trails and even a secret art installment of a mermaid. It's actually really cool to take a walk to the 41st Pedestrian Bridge and admire traffic from (S DuSable) Lake shore Drive zooming on by. Looking for other free activities in the area? Nice smaller beach . Not as popular as other beaches in the area but I enjoy the quiet atmosphere. Always plenty of lifeguards on duty

Awesome, this beach has everything to offer. Restrooms, food, outdoor shower, volleyball, and picnic area all within reasonable distance and free. You can camp out with a blanket on the grass underneath a tree. There is a path for bikers to ride up and down the lakefront. I would most definitely come back to this location as opposed to Oak Street beach. Here you have plenty of space on the sand and on the grass area. There is absolutely no CTA service to this location. So if you do not drive be prepared to walk. The parking lot is super small and fills up quickly. By the way if you do not know you must pay to park. Now the only thing left to figure out is how do I get Starbucks to deliver out here.

I went here to use the fitness park, and basically got assaulted today. Some guy came up wearing Gucci sunglasses and a silk shirt, and started doing pull ups beside me, and a group of people walked by and told him "get your money!" He got excited and started ranting after that. Saying, this is power and you can't do this. Then he came up to my face and starting saying he's going to take the land back and people are gonna cry blood. I got uncomfortable with my stuff on the ground, and just picked it up and left without saying anything. He walked away too and got in some car standing there with tinted windows waiting for him. There were families around because it's Memorial Day weekend. So, that made things kinda weirder. Broad daylight Super sad because the equipment here is nice. Probably won't be back alone... or anytime soon. I biked 8 miles to get here.

Absolute favorite beach. Same place where they have Mambi on the beach, Belizian Festival. During the week middle of the day If I get a free hour it's great because I can practically have a private beach in the middle of the city. With the recent addition of the restaurant it works out well for a quick lunch stop. Can't wait until the 41st Street bridge is open

Enough parking....not a far walk from the beach.....open with no restrictions. I have no complaints

This gem of a beach is secluded because there is no easy access other than walking or biking here and the closest parking is north of here. But that is changing because the city announced the construction of a new pedestrian bridge across LSD. Its a small but nice beach, shiny new beach house, great view of the city from the pier, secluded and so on. But for me, the selling point is SHINY CLEAN NEW BATHROOMS. Really convenient for me when I make a bike ride south. Even though this beach is inaccessible, getting here is half the fun. The city has done an incredible job of sprucing up the lakefront south of McCormack place. There's gardens, sculptures, restored prairies. If you haven't biked south of the loop lately I highly recommend it.
