Went to a vintage pop up and the venue was not really suited for the show. It was dark and cramped. I had not been in the Patio for decades and is still has some of its old charm, but is a bit run down. Definitely needs lots of repairs.

Was just here for a concert. The outside definitely needs works , as well as the interior. Bathrooms are okay. The food is not badly priced. Parking isn't hard to find, you just have to arrive at a decent time and make sure to pay to park at the stall. Overall it's not a bad place.

I would really like to see this theater open up again for weekly movie showings. It's a historic landmark from a time gone by. I used to come see movies her in the 1970's and still remember the experience of seeing "The Godfather", "Live And Let Die", "Young Frankenstein" for the first time. The last time I was here was about seven years ago when they had a special showing of "The Warriors". It was played on Saturday & Tuesday night, I went on the Tuesday night on a cold, snowy night to discover that over 300 people had showed up. And they were a rowdy crowd. It was good time, very memorable evening. They should re-open and continue to show more films with cult followings such as "2001: a space odyssey", "The Wild Bunch", "The Big Lebowski", etc. It's a shame to leave such a great movie palace sitting empty.

METALHEADS Avantasia's show on 5/21/19 rocked our freakin' socks off at this converted movie palace. Following a series of excellent concerts in 2018, this marks the 11th music venue in the greater Chicagoland area I've experienced, and I have to say that The Patio Theater is towards the top of said list. There's some historic charm to be seen here in Portage Park. Finding a place to park nearby was a cinch. We found a few pay-per-hour spots alongside Irving Park Rd, even as it approached showtime. They scanned our tickets as we entered and let us right in, without passing through metal detectors. Wait what?!? Uhhhhh nobody checked our pockets, waved the beepy-wands over us, not even so much as a second glance. I guess they thought we looked non-threatening enough. There were plenty of yellow vests roaming the aisles, so that's something. Down in Joliet at The Forge (and practically everywhere else), the security pat-downs were pretty thorough. Yeah, it's a minor inconvenience that slows up the entry line, but afterwards don't you feel so much safer?? I know I sure do. Ambiance reminded me of the Aragon Ballroom, with its painted ceiling and gold trim balconies. I was surprised to see that the Patio Theater doesn't have a balcony or mezzanine level, likely the first venue I've been to without one. The original pipe organ in the corner was pretty nifty. Stuffing was coming out of many seats, not that we sat at all during the 3hr performance. Crowd was very polite, much more so than the rowdy mess that attended the Mägo de Oz concert at the Aragon (though we attribute that mostly to the drunken followers of El Tri). Audio quality: A+ Security quality: C- Value of booze: F-- My biggest criticism has to be the exorbitant cost of alcohol. I'm no stranger to inflated prices at various sports stadiums and concert venues across the country from L.A. to D.C.....but when I saw how much a single beer cost, I just shook my head, and wept a little. A 12oz can of Miller Lite was $8 and shots of Henny were $12, which seems criminal. For twelve bucks, I'd rather attend a concert as sober as a Catholic priest on Sunday. For twelve bucks, I'd rather be tied up and shot with an Airsoft gun. For $12 I'd rather (insert horrible thing here). At least over at Northerly Island, they'll sell you a massive 24oz silo for $14. Here, the dinky can feels like a tremendous ripoff, like they just got it from a cooler inside Pepe's truck and tried to resell it at 400% markup. * TL;DR * The morning after the totally amazeballs concert, Nichole C asked me if I had tinnitus. No response. Again she asked "do you have tinnitus??" I said "babe I can't hear you over the ringing in my ears" {cue audience laughter, cut to next scene} I'll forever refuse to pay for booze at the Patio Theater, since it's WAY more practical to slam beers in your car beforehand. Shadier, sure, but cheaper. Admit it, we've all been there. And if it saves $20-30 by drinking before the show? Hell man, that's a no-brainer. We're looking forward to returning in September for another evening of power metal (a most unholy trinity of Battle Beast, Sonata Arctica, and Kamelot). \m/ \m/

We went to see Kota the Friend and it was awesome. A lot of space to move around and it wasn't too crowded. The bars were close to wherever you were and the line went by quick. The bartenders that night were also super nice (:

I heard some bad things about this theater from a few friends. I never heard of it until the Kenny Lattimore concert tonight & the forthcoming Tamar Braxton concert. I never been past Cicero on Irving Park. Well when u walk up u cannot help but notice the help me I'm falling sign. I mean not any type of scaffolding around it???? I hope no one gets injured. Doors are tinted. Very dated entrance way. Once u enter the second set of doors there's a concession stand ahead. I didn't go there because I needed to go the men's room which was down some stairs then to your right. Just in case u didn't know where u were headed they had a kid make a sign for u(see pic). Going into the men's room I had to recheck the kid-like sign posted because all I saw were movie posters. Reminded me of one those creepy neighborhood video rental places back in the day. Even creepier was the toiletry man who watches u as u do u. That man must cannot smell anymore because I went cross eyed with the toxins from stall #1. It had graffiti on the wall in stall 2(see pic). I didn't use the urinal because it was next to the toiletry guy and there were no dividers between the 2. I appreciate he wanted to give me paper towels & a spray of Jovan Musk but I opted for my watermelon hand sanitizer & a dabble of my fav cologne, Perry Ellis 360 Red. Back up the stairs then into the theater. There's a ramp. Nice for wheelchair access. The theater inside wasn't too bad but...seats were dated, I felt more spring than cushion; typical paint peels; aisle carpet was dated & lots of gum memories; there were some extra items on the side that could have been placed in storage; the stage seemed decent and the wall details; the acoustics were pretty good throughout the concert. The staff I encounter were ok. This place could be so much better but I understand renovations cost money. I would have given 3 stars but I am very concerned about that exterior sign out front causing an injury to a passerby and the toiletry man...hasn't he suffered enough???

Why can't we give a ZERO star? This place was horrible. The sound, the lights, the organization, everything. Very sketch. We saw a show with 4 comedians. They did not disappoint. But if you can get away without coming here, don't come. No one knew what time the doors opened. We asked, they gave us a time, we saw on the poster that it was different. And in the end, they opened the doors at a time that was completely different. We called beforehand to see how the 'meet and greet' worked & of course, no working numbers. We paid extra for this. We know the guys we came to see always stick around & they will see every person that came. We bought these passes thinking we would see them before or at least boost us to the front of the line later. Instead we fought to get to the lobby after the show & once we worked our way towards the table, we were instructed to go back into the theater and get in a line that went from the door, back to the stage & wrap around. This could have easily been communicated. They pretty much just up charged for this meet & greet that the guys always do. It got us nothin special. I wonder if the act even got any money from the M&G upcharge..... They hustle everything here. The bartender would just randomly yell out asking if anyone wanted another drink, & same for the merch. It was endless. They were just interested in the stuff they would get a cut off of which is fine, but nothing about that place makes you want to put any more money into their pockets. This place COULD be beautiful with some work. It never will be with the current management or "team." The staff was thrown together. All you need to do is show up with a "SECURITY" shirt & you've got the gig, but they didn't know what to do. The seats are gross, the bathroom was gross. As far as the show went, you could hear the comedians. But they tried to play LOUD music before & it's was rough. The lighting was the worse part of the show aspect. Unless there is a specific act you want to see, try to avoid this place.

Bad. Really really really bad. 90 degrees outside? 110 degrees in here. Went for a concert on 9/20 and stood there dripping in sweat for 3 hours. Complete misery. I won't go to a show here again unless it's Fall or Spring.

Was here for Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely. Most of the front seats were removed to create a "pit" but there's still walkways and a slope to it. There's also a weird red stuff that got all over everyone's shoes which I assume is from what used to be a movie theatre red carpet. The air conditioning is lacking, especially for a high-energy concert with packed fans on an 80° day, which was brutal. Nice transition from movie theater to concert venue but finish the job.
