I flew economy round-trip from Chicago to Copenhagen. We weren't able to check in online or at the airport kiosk, so we had to go up to the counter, and apparently it was due to the type of ticket we had purchased. There were no air vents at our seats, which was a bit of a health concern, especially with passengers coughing around us. It was uncomfortably warm on our return flight; walking up to the bathroom, you could feel a sharp change in temperature. Over the 9-hour flights, we were served two meals. The first meal was more substantial on both flights, but the second meal was always lacking. For a 9-hour flight, I feel like two full meals should have been served.

My brother used to work for SAS, and I have cousins living in Sweden - so I have flown this airline a lot - both in Coach and in Business Class (never First). I have also experienced more than my share of both the Coach and also in the Business Class/First Class SAS Lounges all over the World. So I am pretty well informed about this airline's many qualities. And when SAS works correctly, and there are no problems for the staff to deal with, the service is outstanding. Even the ticketing process and the lounges are smooth and wonderful. That's why I almost always spent extra to travel SAS Business Class. But this review covers when SAS Business Class DIDN'T work out so well. Coach is coach, whichever airline is your carrier. Minor differences apply, but they are ever changing from year to year, so by the time I write a review, or you read it, everything might be outdated. So - one thing that really stands out about SAS Coach for me, is that after traveling on SAS Business Class for five legs of my Honeymoon trip, the last leg, Copenhagen to Seattle (a friggin long-ass leg), SAS pulled a very petty move on us. They refused to serve me Knäckebröd (Swedish hard-tack, similar to a really good fresh Rye-Crisp). When I asked why, I was told that Knäckebröd was not included in my travel class. What! A friggin' Cracker! And my New Bride and I weren't high-class enough for it! What a pack of thoughtless creeps. If any one of those Nordic rule-followers had thought for themselves they would have ran back to the service alcove and got me a basket of Knäckebröd. We were one of about 30 people on the flight (it being a red-eye probably meant to simply transfer the plane & crew to Seattle for a jam packed morning flight. Our "Paid" seats was just incidental. On another occasion during the return trip again, this time Copenhagen to Chicago - and we had purchased expensive business class tickets for the long trip, so we could comfortably sleep. But at the last minute the planes were switched (or at least I hope that's what happened), because THERE WAS NO BUSINESS CLASS SECTION on our plane; just ECONOMY & FIRST. But instead of putting us in First Class they gave us seats in coach. Why? The plane was almost empty, and they clearly had shifted seats for some of the coach passengers because we were the only ones in our coach section, as if being in an empty section made any difference at all. It was still coach, with small seats. Sure they gave us our his & her gift bags, and yes, we got free champagne and better wine, plus all of our business class meals. But the seats were terribly uncomfortable, and impossible to fall asleep in. It was a miserable 9 hour flight. They should either put us in First Class, or given us a hotel room for the night (with meal coupons), putting us on the first flight in the morning that had our already paid-for Business Class seats available. It was an easy fix, and the SAS Crew either did See it, or they didn't. Either way, there are better airlines for the same money.

SAS is a decent airline. You won't be blown away by any means but the product and services provided will be perfectly adequate for your trek to Copenhagen and beyond. On their A340-300s, the economy class seats are configured in a 2 x 4 x 2 layout. I actually like this setup as couples traveling together can usually get a pair of seats together. And single travelers will only have to climb over one person to use the bathroom or stretch their legs during flight. However, the seats are narrow (17.3 inches) and don't provide the most legroom (31 inches). The seats are equipped with personal in-flight entertainment systems, power outlets, reading lamps and adjustable headrests. The entertainment system has enough content to keep the average person entertained with a collection of movies, TV shows, video games and audio entertainment. The monitors are large, crisp and clear and the controls are easy to use. As for food, there were two meals served on this flight. The first meal was served approximately one hour into the flight and it consisted of a side salad, cheese and crackers, chocolate cake dessert and an unknown stew dish with rice and broccoli. There was only one meal option and the flight attendants did not describe the meal any further. She just plopped it down on my table. Take a look at my pictures and see for yourself. I think it was fish. And the second meal was served two hours before our arrival into Copenhagen. The second meal consisted of a bread roll, cold cuts, yogurt cup, fruit, granola and an orange juice cup. Again, there was only one meal option provided. During meals, you only get one non-alcoholic beverage free of charge. Additional beverages and alcoholic drinks can be purchased for a fee. Snacks can also be purchased in between meals if you are still hungry. For Vegans and Vegetarians, you must pre-select your meals ahead of time. You can do so by managing your flights on SAS' website. Otherwise, you will be stuck with the single meal option.

This airline canceled our flights on more than one occasion. We booked flights about 6 months ago to Italy through a tour operator (Jetline Vacations which does business with Travelzoo. I will never use either of them again either). Two weeks before our trip, the airline left the tour operator scrambling to get us on a flight for the time we planned. We had to go one day earlier and leave one day earlier. The trip was supposed to be 2 days in Rome, 2 days in Florence, and 2 days in Venice. Instead we had 3 nights/2 days in Rome, 2 nights/2 days in Florence and 2 nights/1day in Venice. Nevertheless, after the final night in Venice, we checked out of our hotel and headed to the airport only to find the flight was canceled. It was a Sunday and we could not get a live person to talk to all that day.

Yesterday July 13th our flight SK 943 from Copenhagen to Chicago was scheduled to leave at 15:40 departed at 17:5 nearly 2 hours late. Just hold on for a second this where it starts to get worse. Flight SK 943 from Copenhagen landed nearly 3 hours late at Chicago International... the 3 hour layover that we thought we had was now 30 minutes! Now! this is part where it gets ugly. Try to get through customs anywhere with well over a hundred other people! Not possible. Needless to say we missed our connecting flight, ( SOUTHWEST which is a story within it self ) to New Orleans and now everyone wants to kick the can of responsibility down the road. Scandinavia Airlines basically said oh well, we did our part and Southwest Airlines customer service supervisor @ 9 o'clock pm said " talk to customs it's their problem... nothing we can do here! ". Yet all the while I witnessed how he cherry picked who he allowed his staff to help. To the young Ladies that went out their way to help everyone that came to that desk regardless of the constraint you were under! We appreciate your help! Love for all you do for Southwest. At the end of that night we weren't accommodated with anything and now we have to find a place to spend the night. After spending well over 13 hours flying and being stranded by these large Airlines with those cute lying commercials. This is what I feel we got after spending thousands of dollars traveling internationally with Scandinavia and Southwest, other than the awesome young lady at the desk that helped us and gave my wife and I toiletries because " Our luggage is who knows where ", I felt they gave us the middle finger! A few questions for SAS 1. Why are you saying a minimum wait of 3 months for refunds of flights you canceled. You charged my credit card immediately in October 2019. You are prepared to give me a voucher immediately for travel that it seems unlikely that I can take. I gave YOU money in October 2019 and at best, I won't see a refund until sometime October/November 2020 2. You stopped booking my flights 3.5 months before you officially cancelled. You knew that flight wasn't going out essentially empty. You were making no effort to fill it. Why not update the few travelers who booked. Maybe some actually HAD to travel and needed to look for options. It is irritating when a business knows something that will cause major problems for me and won't tell me. 3. Your website sucks. Surely you can update FAQ. And can you answer your email? I have been waiting for a reply for over 2 months. You DID answer your phone two days ago without a wait. That is how we learned of three months delay for a refund. Airbnb is bigger than you and my refund was posted on the same day from them. 4. Your lack of professionalism reflects on your codeshare United. I dont know whose name would have been slapped on the plane but it was one of the two. I am patient. I know that perhaps in early March you weren't prepared for the problems that the pandemic caused. But there is no excuse for an airline who emails me about flight changes of a minute or two, not to email me that my month in Stockholm is toast. It is nearly August and you are still not up to speed.

Unbelievable: flying from Stockholm, Sweden to Chicago, IL. I was waiting in line for the bathroom, and the flight attendant informed me she was going in front of me because "she was working". WTF?

Cheap price goes along with cheap treatment. I knew SAS tried to squeeze as many seats as possible on the plane when my carry on bag barely fit the aisle. I paid the cost of one full seat to bring my cat in the cabin but there was no legroom and I had nowhere to put my feet during the long flight. Check-in staff in Chicago, who told me they are outsourced and not SAS employees, are rude and ignorant and incapable giving good serv. Bad bad bad. Don't fly SAS unless you are prepared for suffering.

The absolute worst flight between Denmark and Chicago. One, yes one, free soft drink for the entire flight. Flight crew rude beyond words. I was a flight attendant for many years and I said something to a crew member about attitudes. Flying to Denmark they cancelled our flight due to a mechanical and never let us know. The bright side of that screw up is we were booked on Lufthansa thru Frankfort. That was a wonderful flight and that is how I would fly back to Denmark. As a child SAS was the gold standard now I would compare them to Spirit or Ryan Air. SAS you suck!
