Booked our stay thru Booking. Com. And pre paid thru booking. We got to the hotel at about 2pm. I asked about checking in early and was told it would be 60$ to check in early. Check in was either 3 or 4 don't remember. They were able to hold our bags and we went for a walk and a late lunch on The Mile. Got back and checked in. They asked for a credit card to put a 200$ deposit on. 100$ for each night we were staying. I tapped my card and the 200$ immediately showed up on my card as a hold. Young lady checking us in said something went wrong. I showed her it was on my card. She said she needed to do it again. That hold dropped off my card. I tapped a second time. She again said something went wrong. It also showed up as a hold on my credit card. I did it a third time. I now had 2 holds on my credit card for 200$ each. She said don't worry one of them should drop off in a day or two. We got our key and went up to our room. I immediately looked around and took a few photos of some of the previous damage that I saw. I wanted a time stamped photo just in case. The room was spacious and clean. No complaints about the room at all. Next morning we went down for breakfast. It was seriously the most depressing breakfast. Nothing looked appealing. The scrambled egg's didn't taste good. The sausage was bad. The breakfast potatoes were awful. No pancakes or waffles. I didn't see any fruit. The oj was so watered down it was basically colored water. The second morning we went across the street for a wonderful breakfast. Upon checkout I mentioned again I had two holds on my card for a total of 400$. I was again told they'd drop off in a few days. A day later they charged my card for our room over 500$ that I had already pre paid for on booking.com. After that a refund showed up minus around 28$ for our room up grade. Still had the holds. A few days later one of those dropped off. A week later I still had a hold for 200$. I contacted my credit card and they said they would take care of it if it didn't drop off after another week. Finally after 2 weeks the holds are gone. Hotel was clean, some of the clientele was questionable, convenient to Michigan Ave, breakfast sucked, the credit card stuff was super annoying. Mostly due to all the credit card holds and charging me again after I'd already paid on line we will never book this hotel again.

I am partially wheelchair-bound, and I specifically requested a transfer shower. When I got to the room, there was no transfer shower. Since it is only a partial disability, and I am autistic and hate confrontation, I decided to just put up with it since I can technically get in and out of the shower provided. The dishwasher is inoperable. It doesn't work, which calls into question the cleanliness of the dishes before we got here. The parking rates are $70 a night, which was not posted anywhere on their website. I can't find any information on their parking rates whatsoever so budget an extra $70 a night for parking. I have never stayed anywhere before that did not include parking in the nearly $1000 it took for us to stay here. I will never book with Sonesta again as long as I live. Do not stay here. It is not worth the hassle.

The check-in process was very easy and the front desk people were absolutely amazing and so helpful. I told them we were here for my husband's birthday, and they treated us all with kindness.

I've had good luck with Sonesta in the past. So while on the near northside/Gold Coast, I chose this location. Hotel is located in a mostly residential area, quiet compared to just a block or two away. But you are within walking distance (one block to) Michigan Avenue, the John Hancock Building and (3 blocks) from Rush Street. Keep in mind, this is a very touristy and expensive area of Chicago. Parking? Probably best to leave you car at home, or on the outskirts of town and take public transportation. That's what I did. $65/night to park is too much, IMO. Room was nice. Big bed, full kitchen except for no convential oven (just a microwave). But everything else was there: 'fridge, dishwasher, sink, toaster, stove top, plates, cups, etc. TV was 42", if that matters. Shower/bathroom was clean....although vent was a bit dirty. Pros: Friendly front desk Free breakfast. Basic: scrmble eggs, potatoes, bacon, coffee, juice, yogurt Lobby had coffee all day, early evening. Security elevator, use your door key to activate. Keeps out the riff raff. Cons: Twice housekeeping entered. Once when I was there, she saw me and immediately closed the door. No knocking, not a word. The other time I was away. She went through my bag. Fortunately nothing was stolen/missing. Windows were very dirty. Didn't matter, not much of a view along DeWitt. However if you paid the long dollar for a view, you might not be happy. Wifi did not work the entire time, even though it showed it was connected. I went to the hotel across the street and used their wifi. Toilet was a lower to the floor profile. The couch/TV arrangement was a bit awkward, but I didn't come here to watch TV anyway. Some of the furniture was a bit worn, but still functional. Would I come again? Probably, but I would explore other options too.

Checked in and staff was very friendly. They told us if we had any problems that we could call down and they would be happy to help. Got up to our room and everything looked good until we got to the bathroom. The toilet had erupted and there was water everywhere. We called down and they sent a guy up to check it out. He got finished and said it was fixed. My brother went in to use it after the guy left and the second he got in the toilet erupted again. Water all over the seat and floor. We called down and the same guy came up. He started working on it and then started blaming us. We hadn't used the toilet yet. He was being very rude and said he wanted to quit but they wouldn't let him. My brother went in and used the bathroom and about 3 minutes later it erupted... again. We called down but got transferred to the guy who tried to fix it and he started to yell at my mom and blamed us. After that we decided to just let it go so it didn't ruin our vacation since it was our first time in Chicago and we traveled 10 hours. My dad went down to get coffee since there was a coffee bar in the lobby but they were all out. No problem right? Wrong. They were always out of coffee and never refilled it. So my family had to go down to the lobby and use the bathrooms down there if we had to go. Also they said they were completely booked out and couldn't change our room I don't believe that since there were people constantly checking out and there are also 17 stories and plenty of hotels around the area. Now anybody who checks into the room after us will have to go through the same troubles. Also we requested to have sheets for our pull out bed and they didn't come up with them for almost an hour. Absolutely ridiculous. Bottom line of the story is don't call down to the front desk because they will be no help at all. Also don't expect to get coffee from the coffee bar. It is always out. Also the toilet never stopped erupting and if you wanted to use it you had to clean the water up first.

We interacted with a lot of the staff (front desk, valets, housekeeping). Everyone was friendly and helpful. We loved the location. Very beautiful views, close to parks, and close to the magnificent mile. We did have some plumbing issues, but staff was helpful at resolving the problem.

Don't ever stay here! Some of my belongings got stolen here and the staff is really rude and unhelpful about it. Its also dirty.

Saw lots of bad reviews, frankly I can't understand why. We had a great experience. Rooms were clean, and nice. Service was great, they even let us check in a few hours early to decorate for a birthday. Had lots of stuff to bring and had a handy cart for us to use. Lots of people there all seems to be having a good time. Plus it was fairly priced and in a nice area! Ild go back for sure.

As a top yelp reviewer I strongly advise anyone against choosing this sonesta es suites for extended stays. When I first checked in during the middle of covid I was welcomed by the original GM and assistant GM with open arms and attentiveness however Lashera..my housekeeper did steal small items from my room including a necklace I loved. No worries I found the same piece on etsy but wasn't compensated. Cons-- mattress extremely uncomfortable so once I bought a mattress topper my back stopped aching from saggy mattress. Furniture here was ugly, old and depressing so I used my own blankets to cover the couch and chairs in my living room area. In the beginning it was just granola bars, apples and yogurt served in brown bags but that's because the kitchen was closed due to covid. Beginning rate for me was $1050 per week the first month which to me is steep. 2nd month tax free $960 per week till I begged the accountant to consider reducing my rate to make it more affordable to extend my stay. Nick the new manager agreed to charge me $833 a week even though the accountant suggested a more affordable rate for me of $99 a day. He stuck to 119 a day and after almost 2 years of me struggling to afford this rate he gave me a month to leave. Once Devin left Jason the new assistant manager started acting disrespectful and unkind to me. During the dead of winter the 4 boilers here in the building blew out leaving us without working heat. I lost heat in my room for over a week and when I told Jason his response was to stop me from making a scene even though I wasn't rude or screaming. In fact he overheard and eavesdropped on me and my neighbors in the breakfast room and suggested I find new living accommodations! First day I checked in to the property I saw a black half naked woman in the hallway chasing after her customer. He was screaming help police! I knew two rooms near me were operating a prostitution ring here so I informed the front desk. Another incident was a homicide at this "hotel" and if you Google murder and 201 E Walton place you can see it on the new for yourself. I remember when the heat stopped working in my room I had no help from Jason and he even threatened me to leave and once refused my payment. I preferred paying in cash because when my credit card was used sometimes accidentally the accountant ran my card multiple times because their machine and my bank were receiving different information. I had to beg housekeeping for service then I gave up borrowed cleaning supplies from Devin etc and a vacuum and cleaned my huge room and vacuumed myself. Once Devin left and quit Jason started terrorizing me and making me feel unwelcome. After I left I was inconvenienced and put what little belongings I owned in storage so now I'm paying 3 storage fees and I only earned 100,000 points because Sonesta brands have a points limit policy no more than 100,000 points per entire stay per property. My carpet stopped getting steam cleaned, my room never received a deep cleaning, housekeeping stopped giving me weekly cleaning so now you know how this location operates and treats long-term residents. After spending close to 80,000 just shy of two years my savings is swiped clean and I'm technically without a real home This was the dumbest move on my part because I should have looked harder during covid for less expensive living arrangements but my furniture is in Nola and Boston. I personally feel i was nothing more than a dollar sign at this property and not a human being with feelings. How the new staff treated me is unconscionable. I had no issues with the wonderful staff like front desk and valet but upper management truly doesn't care about the guest's experience or their property. The building itself is falling apart, the furniture is outdated, the air quality here is poor and my shower always flooded because everything here is old and needs an update. My kitchen floor even leaked water sometimes and I never used the dishwasher-- the pipes here are leaking. I was hoping I would have accumulated enough points here for at least 3 months of free stays so I could relocate to Boston but 100,000 points isn't that much after almost two years of me throwing my money down the drain. I advise people seeking long-term housing to look elsewhere. I even found out that some guests were paying a lot less than me! I would have loved to receive my room for $89 a day like the rate some other long-term residents received! I would have also preferred 2 or 3 months notice that my lease was not going to be renewed. I did love the location and the front desk and valet were wonderful but the new assistant manager and new GM are definitely heartless. I'm a single woman with two pets and not many options after my savings have been depleted.
