# United Airlines – Premier airline in Chicago, renowned for service, dining, and community engagement

United Airlines, based in Chicago, IL, is a leading airline known for its extensive flight network and commitment to customer service. This mixed review is for our 9 hour flight from Frankfurt back to Chicago in economy. It was on a Boeing 787-10. On the plus side, I was happy with the leg room, the food, and the entertainment. After having the disgusting food on Air France a few months ago, anything would have been a big improvement and at least the food was hot and pretty good. On the outbound to Glasgow, I had butter chicken, and on this flight, we I had eggplant parmesan. Also, in a recent and thoughtful innovation, they provided a nice neck pillow that was very helpful for comfort and sleeping. They also had a neat new vacuum wrapped snack of olives and almonds that I enjoyed. On the negative side, we had a ridiculous comedy of errors that resulted in a 2 hour delay to takeoff. We were on UA flight 906 on Friday, Oct 11, and it was fully loaded with 300+ passengers. The story is worth sharing because it is so ridiculous. It is all based on announcements from the head stewardess. First, at departure time, everyone was onboard except 1 passenger who was apparently in a wheelchair that they were looking for. After 30 minutes, they found that he was put on another plane. I don't know if that was a UAL or an airport employee, but it could have been a liability factor. Apparently the passenger was separated from his mother too who was presumably on the plane, hmmm. When they found him, they tried to put him on our plane, but we had to wait for a special elevator as the jetway wasn't working properly anymore. Another 30 minutes. 20 minutes later, we get an announcement that starts with "unfortunately". The unfortunate thing was his critical medicines were left on the other plane, duh. So, 40 minutes later, they apparently got hold of that and we take off 2 hours late. A lot of passengers, but not applicable for us, missed their connections and there was a slight mutiny on the plane as folks started standing about, grumbling, etc and had to be calmed by the stewardess before we took off. To top it off, we had 3 screaming babies on board as well. For what it's worth, we had a female captain, and that may or may not go with the bleeding heart theorists. There was so much incompetence, a lot of folks thought we should have just taken off and let the idiot couple fend for themselves. I'm still undecided as I don't think we got the complete picture and I may be biased towards forgiveness as we didn't have that much skin in the game with a missed connection. It was just a retrospectively entertaining way to end our vacation in such a ridiculous way, lol. Overall, 3 stars - 4 stars for the flight and 1 star for the pre-flight buffoonery.

I've given United multiple chances, but every single time I've flown with them, my flights have been delayed -- often with little to no clear explanation or updates. It's become a consistent pattern, not just a one-off. What's most frustrating is the lack of communication. Passengers are left waiting with vague announcements, and there's never a sense of accountability. Delays happen in air travel, but when they happen every time with the same airline, it points to poor operations and planning. I'm tired of paying for a service that can't reliably get me to my destination on time. United needs to take responsibility and fix these ongoing issues, because right now they're falling far short of even basic reliability. Until things improve, I can't recommend United to anyone who values punctuality or professionalism.

After a lifetime of flying large military airplanes, having follow-on jobs that made me fly on commercial airlines intensively, and then another follow on career of almost constantly living off a suitcase, I was able to earn status on both airline and several hotel chains for the rest of my life. I have never had a problem in United Airlines, instead, I have always found them to be courteous and efficient. Yes, I'm one of the few who buy Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts gift certificates and give them to the flight attendants upon entrance to the airplane. You wouldn't believe how far that goes... In these modern times, when civility and decorum seem to have lost their way in constant acrimony, being nice to the air crew upon which your life depends is a wonderful thing. Yes, I pay for my seat, in the position in place in the airplane that I choose, and I make my reservation a good six months in advance. On this trip, although in an aging aircraft, the flight attendant crew was particularly helpful, considering that the United flight attendants have not had a contract now for a number of years and are grossly underpaid. Yet they remain doing their jobs that in many cases include saving lives. The landing at O'Hare airport was uneventful, we were ushered by pleasant gate agents, and were directed to our next gate, which, although it was a long walk, it is sort of expected in O'Hare. A good day. The air crew and staff of United performed quite well, in spite of the often times abandoned men by their corporate bosses.

The flight was on time. We however sat on the tarmac for an extra 20 minutes. That wasn't bad actually because we've had much longer waits than today. The flight was not full so there was room to spread out.

United Airlines main hub is Chicago and Terminal 1 & 2 are exclusive to them. It's kept clean and offers many amenities of food, drink, books and light electronics. Announcements are clear and audible. They have a variety of seat types with many comfortable places to sit. I love traveling United as my airline of choice. They really try to stay on time with flights with weather exceptions that can't be helped.

Overall, my experience flying United (Polaris) was a good one. I had a 15 hr flight to Sydney, AU that I was really dreading, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. The bedding was nice and provided by Saks. My seat laid completely flat and was pretty comfortable. The food exceeded my expectations. I mean smoked duck and sea bass with a caper sauce? It wasn't Michelin Star worthy, but it was good quality for airline food. And the service was wonderful. One of the negatives though, and it's kind of a big one, was that WiFi wasn't working so I had to go 15 hrs having no contact with my kids. The 2nd was that the Polaris lounge in Chicago was closed so I had to use the United club instead. Not nearly as nice as Polaris. I'd of course use United again. It's typically the only airline I use. But next time I hope they have WiFi

We have not flown United airlines in years and if we never fly United airlines for the rest of our lives that would be perfectly fine. We were targeted to leave Austin, TX at 10 am in route to Montreal Canada. Our passports were uploaded online on our personal computer and our boarding passes finalized and were ready to go. We arrived about 8 am at the Austin Bergstrom airport and cleared security with no issues. United airlines staff did not contact us regarding any issues during that 2 hour period. As we attempted to board the plane, we were notified of an error. The gate agent could not solve the issue and called a manager. It turned out to be a United Airlines system issue. We were within 2 minutes of the plane doors closing before we were given the ok to board. This was super nerve racking. The gate agent told us to check in immediately in Chicago at our connecting gate. It was about a 20 minute walk from our arriving to departing flight. When we arrived at the gate our plane was boarding. I went up to Marissa, gate agent and explained our situation. In a very derogatory manner you told us we need to wait to everyone had boarded the plane before you could hear our concern. She was extremely dismissive. We asked for a supervisor and she said there was no supervisor available, which was not true. We saw another agent in the distant who came over. As it turns out, she was a manager. She listened to our situation and printed new boarding passes and prioritized our entry onto the plane. This has been the WORST flying experience of our lives and I've flown to over 90+ countries. United airlines is in a unique position as they are the only company that have earned a "1" rating from me on Yelp!

4.75 stars I was dreading this flight, I really was. It actually turned out better than I expected. Decent food, had a glass of bubbly on the flight (I never do this), two pillows, comfy throw, able to stretch out. Almost five stars because I still couldn't sleep. They gave us a bag with a sleep mask, but too many people walking around, skinny seat. Not bad, almost perfect. Almost.

I primarily Fly Southwest and this is a rare fly for me to fly United. My experience here was okay for the most part. Checking in and getting through security wasn't too bad. Staff here was friendly for the most part. There is a game change that I wasn't notified about when I was looking for my flight on my ticket. There were many delays to with my flight as well which pushed me back almost a whole hour from getting to my destination. The flight went by really smooth and I enjoyed the aircraft I was on. Overall, i wouldn't mind flying with United again.
