Came for the bar experience and left very satisfied with both the food,  ambiance,  and service.

The tasting menu was more than enough to give you an idea of what's on offer without you feeling like you've got had enough to eat.

The cocktail menu based around art they'd showcased was the highlight for me.  A lot of interesting and unique flavors with well presented glasses and garnishes.

Plating was definitely a highlight as well,  unique ceramics made to fit for each dish.

Definitely will be returning to try the full experience!

We very much enjoyed our greeting at Esme while being offered welcome drinks. Always a favorite of mine. Our server was very nice but as we learned through the night the same lines were said to all customers. Our biggest frustration was being sold on the major up charged caviar dish without disclosing the price but alluding that we should have read the menu. They were able to recover but this set an unnecessary tone. Overall the food and presentation was fantastic and the focus on detail was strong. This was a great experience but with all the competition in Chicago I would like opt for a different one.

Great service! Loved their hot cheetos! Also loved their dessert! The wagyu is not as tender as expected and the candied bancon soup is too salty. Truffle risotto is too salty lack of flavor profile and layer

Please disclose your additional menu prices! All the reviews mention the same issue, and it feels so shady.

I was disappointed with my recent dining experience at Esmé. While the mocktails were a highlight, they felt too sugary to pair with five finger foods. Aside from the steak, it felt like we were served five appetizers. In terms of steak, while the wagyu was passable, the sausage had an unpleasant smell and was inedible. When server asked us how was the taste, we have let them know but there is no explanation of the weird smell or anything. We couldn’t finish it. The first complimentary dish was overly fishy, and most of the food was served at the wrong temperature—not intentionally cold, but more like leftovers.

I was also confused when desserts like cake and ice cream were offered mid-course, which disrupted the flow of the meal. The steak was particularly disappointing

Adding to the frustration, at least five different staff members served us inconsistently. This was HUGE no for me—we were not informed upfront that adding a menu with drink pairings would cost an extra $75 per person nor caviar ice-cream is $90 per person, resulting in a $440 bill for two. For non-native English speakers, this lack of transparency, combined with no clear menu, made the experience uncomfortable.

Overall, Esmé seems to prioritize presentation over taste. There is significant room for improvement in staff communication, menu transparency, and the overall dining experience.

We visited in September 2021 and were blown away by the creativity and care with each and every intentional decision from the moment we stepped into the restaurant through each dish.
Starting at the standing bar area, we had our first glasses of wine and snacks, before going to our table.
Normally at a fine dining establishment, the servers tell you a story about the food, the ingredients, and the pairing. At Esme, we also learned about local artists who created the serving plates, the cutlery and the art on the walls. I loved the attention to detail.
Food was delicious and staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. I can't wait to come back again soon.
