A great overall Kumiko experience. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived but they offered us a saki to make up for it. Service was good overall but not as consistent as I would have expected considering the price point. It took over 10 min to be greeted after being sat down. We were hungry but were told we need to place all food at once. The food we did get was excellent and the drinks were on point for sure. The “winter” old fashioned I’d recommend over the blueberry one. The vibe was dim and nice. We enjoyed the atmosphere.

I visited Kumiko tonight for drinks and bites after reading great reviews. While the cocktails are definitely the highlight—delicious and well-crafted—there were some downsides. If you don’t speak Japanese, you might struggle to understand the ingredients, and the waitstaff weren’t particularly helpful in explaining them.

We tried several bites that were just okay. The cabbage salad was excessively salty, and the fried chicken was average, similar to what you can find anywhere. However, the potato salad was exquisite.

I was surprised by the 20% service charge, which felt excessive and perhaps unwarranted. I requested tissues three times and received only one, served in a fabric envelope. I also asked for the WiFi password, but was told it couldn’t be shared, despite seeing two WiFi networks associated with the restaurant.

Overall, a place that lacks generosity and hospitality loses points in my book. Additionally, there was no music or ambiance, which contributed to a rather uninspired experience.

Great vibes and amazing cocktails (especially the deconstructed series) - we had dinner reservation before but we tried the small pickles dishes and they were amazing.  Pickled blueberries were my favorite.

We called in before and were able to score a space last minute - front of house was very friendly.  I’d 100% go back again

It’s marked as one of the top 50 North America Bar and No.1 in Chicago.
The atmosphere and service is nice.
We’re here for drink at 10pm, which  the slot is only available when we booked prior to 7 days.

We ordered on 2024/10
1. Clarified Milk Punch: fruity
2. Yaki-IMO old fashion: whiskey base and really smoothly
3. Sea flower: sweet like a juice
4: Umeboshj Chu Hi: Ume tasty and drink not like alcohol, suitable for the person who don’t like drink  🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍

Reservation is suggested and we’ll come for dinner next time for Tonkatsu, Truffle Milk Toast.

The atmosphere was really nice and the drinks were tasty! I was quite impressed by the variety of Japanese-inspired drinks and their selection of tea-based cocktails. I really enjoyed the Cloud Hopper - a shochu drink with Yakut, passion fruit, and oat milk!

The food however was not worth the price. The taste was mediocre and the presentation was quite bad compared to what we saw in the photos. The portions were all pretty small, though I guess that was expected for a cocktail bar.
