On Sunday, March 9th, 2025, my boyfriend and I had our first Nobu dining experience with my cousin and her fiance.  From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is created by the beautiful environment as dark walls contrast unique light fixtures and gilded leaves float across the ceiling catching the light of the fading evening sun.  We were given a warm welcome by the hosts, chefs and waitstaff as service began at 5:00pm, greeting us in unison as we entered the dining room.  What followed the next three and a half hours was the best dining experience I've had so far.

I could tell you about each dish we had, what was in it and why it was so amazing, but I don't want to do that.  Part of what made our experience so fun and delightful was placing trust in the lovely manager who curated a menu for us that wowed our palates from bite to bite.  From my very first bite, my very first drink, it felt like the staff really took into account our tastes and tailored a menu that was more of a tasting journey.  The contrast between flavors, textures, sauces--it was all amazing and so much fun.  With the exception of dessert, we sent back the dishes cleaned off with barely a garnish left—and even that was only because we were so full by dessert!

My favorite part? You had to truly be present for each bite and each dish, to listen to our awesome waitress as she told us the ingredients, how to eat what we were given, and all through the night, we were given trivia about the history of Nobu and how its philosophy came to be.  Our drinks were always replenished, our plates cleared to be clean and ready so following courses would not be mixed with flavors of previous courses.

I have often told that hospitality is about how you make people feel, and that night, Nobu's management, waitstaff, hosts, chefs and cooking staff were peak hospitality because we left feeling spoiled, buzzing from the delightful array of flavors and wonderful conversation and company we had all through the night.  We truly enjoyed dining at Nobu Chicago, and can't wait to go back again.  I'm not listing the dishes we had because I'm advocating for a curated experience--engage with your servers, set a price limit and let them surprise you if you're up for a foodie adventure. You won't be disappointed.

Came here for brunch with friends and was disappointed in the food. Service was great and the location and atmosphere were nice. However, the food was not special for how much it costs. Average sushi, cold breakfast (egg and hash brown) sandwich, and ok lamb. The best dishes were probably the salads. Overall, not impressed considering the huge amount of incredible restaurants surrounding Nobu that could be had at the same price or less.

PHENOMENAL SERVICE.

Probably the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant.. attentive without being overbearing. This was my first time dining at Nobu. I was in town for a conference so I made a reservation for the Brunch Buffet in advance.

The staff was on point the entire time. Plates were constantly cleared to keep the table neat, and every time I returned from grabbing a new plate, a fresh napkin was already waiting for me. I never even saw them do it.. it was seamless. It felt intentional, like they wanted to maintain the Nobu aesthetic and keep the atmosphere refined, avoiding any kind of messy buffet feel. My Diet Coke was always refilled without me having to ask, and when they did check in, it was done in a way that didn’t disrupt the flow of my meal. I noticed what I assumed to be the restaurant management, observing the dining area from the back corner.

My waitress was kind, efficient, and most importantly… not overbearing. A lot of “fine dining” spots tend to do too much (Steak 48 in BH). Even the staff at the hot foods station was professional, informative, and welcoming without hovering.

The food was solid, and the desserts were great. I also appreciated the steak being part of the menu—it definitely helped me leave feeling full and satisfied.

The table where I sat was a bit too close to the others, I should have asked to be seated at the end, other than that & a little string (ligament?) in my nigiri (you can see it in the video).. I have no complaints.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – A Luxe Dining Experience at Nobu Chicago

If you’re thinking about Nobu Chicago, book that reservation now. I’ve been to both the restaurant and the rooftop lounge, and while the rooftop is beautiful, the restaurant is where you want to be.

Food – 5/5 Across the Board:

🔥 Salmon Sushi Roll – 5/5: Fresh, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth good.
🔥 Crab & Lobster Tacos – 5/5: So good we had to order more—zero regrets.
🔥 Shrimp & Veggies – 5/5: Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and light.
🔥 Steak – 5/5: Cooked to perfection, and that sauce? A dream.
❌ California Roll – Skip it. Nothing special—opt for one of their signature rolls instead.

I brought my two-year-old daughter, and they had a high chair available but no coloring materials. If you’re bringing little ones, bring something to keep them entertained. She loved the lobster taco, steak, and soup, so even the kids are eating good here!

Service & Atmosphere – 5/5:

✨ Spotless, welcoming, and effortlessly luxurious. The staff was incredible—attentive, accommodating, and made sure everything was seamless. I celebrated my birthday here, and they surprised me with a birthday dessert—such a beautiful touch.

How I Felt Walking Out?

Like a celebrity, baby. This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you belong in the room.

Absolutely amazing!!! This is one of my favorite places to eat while visiting Chicago.  Awesome food drinks & staff.  Have drinks upstairs roof top before dinner.  If you go with a large group I would recommend eating family style.  Let the waiter bring out the best and pass it around.
