Beautiful hotel that was clean and well decorated. One of the most comfortable beds with plush pillows, slept like the dead! Great location and easy walk to several restaurants or a stroll down Magnificant Mile. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our coffee maker didn't work and within an hour they brought us a new one.

So, I’m here right now and was awakened by…a jackhammer—inside the hotel itself. It seems they’re renovating the place—all of it. And they didn’t reveal that in advance. We only learned on check-in. The front entrance is a mess, as is reception. They should have simply shut down for it or at least disclosed this on the Bonvoy website and reduced their rates. We’ve stayed here half a dozen times probably and always had a good experience, sadly not this time and we don’t feel we were treated fairly. I’m sure it’ll be lovely when renovated, I just doubt we’ll bother to come back to see it, which I’m sure doesn’t bother them at all. If they were customer-focused to begin with they wouldn’t have played it the way they have. Such is the state of biz these days. Poor form on this one Team Talbott… (Enjoy the sound of the jackhammer in my video below…)

There was a bum camping out in the turnstile room. It’s the same area to use your room key to access the lobby from the entrance. Safety in Chicago doesn’t exist.

If your room is on the north side of the building, be prepared for constant garbage truck noise coming from the alley. It woke me up around 4am and continued for over 2 hours. The standard queen room I am in is a shoebox—I can close the bathroom door while laying in bed.

Only upside—fantastic location.

Bring ear plugs or a sound machine to drown out the awful noise.

We are so disappointed with the service at this hotel. We arrived with our four-month old baby for our first trip away from home. We reserved a crib online when booking the rooms, then at check-in the front desk associate acknowledged it and said it would be up right away (6:00pm). We went to meet up with friends and returned at 11pm to no crib in our room. So we went down to the front desk as our baby was already asleep. The associate told us that they missed getting us a crib and couldn’t do it because the house manager left for the night and all the cribs were locked away. So when I asked what I should do with a four month old for the night his response was “I gave you more pillows and blankets and our team failed you. I’ll leave a note for my manager in the morning.” The next morning when I spoke to the manager and I told her what happened, she sent the crib with no real acknowledgement of how badly they messed up and how inconvenient and potentially unsafe of a situation  they put a newborn and her family in. I work in high-end hospitality, and I know mistakes happen, but recovery is everything. Any sincere apology, any attempt to try and make things better would have been appreciated and gone a long way. The lack of that service made the actual incident so much worse. It’s a nice hotel, in a good location, but Chicago has so many options that we will easily avoid this hotel on our several Chicago trips a year. We won’t be back.

I want to say that I’m a Marriott associate first and foremost and I love the brand. I actually work at an Autograph Collection and the Talbott is anything but that. I came into town to run the Chicago Marathon and have a stress free stay at the hotel. I had two rooms and checked into both on Friday morning, card keys in hand and that was where it all stopped being enjoyable. My second room was vacant the first night because of some travel difficulties of my guests. I leave in the am and leave the card keys with the front desk associate with the name printed on the envelope because I was busy and they were arriving later. Not only did the associate lose the key and not pass the info to the next shift coming in, but also somehow changed that room to a no show and booked someone else in that room. When my guest came to retrieve the key they were given new keys to that room and there was another guests belongings in said room. The front desk associate then gave my guests the key to my room. Needless to say they messed up. Now me being embarrassed thoroughly that a company I work for just dropped the ball, also made my guests after a long ordeal have to jump through hoops just to put their bags down. They finally got them a new room and they could go about their day. I came back to the Hotel and talked with the associate at the front desk and he assured me that the manager would contact me . It’s now been a whole week and haven’t heard a peep. This is the most poorly run operation that I’ve ever encountered in all my stays with Marriott. The F&B manager even assured me that some remedy would acure and still not a peep from anyone.

The rooms are dated and they definitely don’t deserve the “Autograph” logo on the place. Maybe this post will get some reaction from the management but I highly doubt it.

The only redeeming quality of this Hotel is the location, so it’s got that going for it.
