Long story short: I developed serious hives all over my body after eating the tuna here (I'm not allergic either, I love sushi and eat it whenever I can). The deets: I came here with my wife and daughter on Saturday at ~5pm. We were the only ones in there the whole time with maybe 2-3 customers picking up orders. My wife and I both ordered an Ume Jewelry Box consisting of salmon, tuna, eel, cucumber, salmon roe, imitation crab meat, and egg on top of rice. We also ordered the chicken karaage appetizer and a Beef Box from the kid's menu. The food came out and already did not look appealing: the fish in our jewelry boxes looked poorly cut with the tuna cut into tiny cubes and the salmon looking almost shredded. The karaage was also disappointing because it was very dry (my wife believes they used chicken breast), had hardly any breading, and was barely fried at all. Lastly, our daughter's Beef Box was supposed to include gyoza, but they just threw in more dry karaage for whatever reason. My wife only ate some of the salmon and rice before deciding that she didn't like it, so I finished her dish along with mine. There was already a decent amount of soy sauce in the dish but I also added some wasabi sauce so I didn't really notice any abnormal flavor. I was also pretty hungry so I scarfed them both down. Fast forward 4-5 hours later and I start to feel some itchiness all over my body with some red welts starting to develop. I took an Allegra to address the itching and went to bed. The next morning the red welts start to spread, and by the end of the day they developed into full-blown hives all over my arms, legs, chest, back, neck, face, and scalp (I included a couple pictures of the hives when they started, but you'll have to trust me when I say that it got *much much* worse later on since I don't want to gross anyone out with those pictures). After searching on Google for possible causes, we determined the cause to be histamine fish poisoning/scombroid fish poisoning which occurs after eating fish that has not been properly handled and stored, causing histamine levels to increase. This mostly occurs in tuna, which would explain why my wife didn't develop a reaction while I developed a severe one. I'm not sure if the current heat wave played a part in the improper storage/handling of the fish; I wouldn't be surprised if it did, however that still wouldn't excuse any poor storage methods. I also read some other recent reviews of their sushi rolls being warm when they were served. I sincerely hope no one else has gone through the same thing I'm going through now. This was a huge disappointment to say the least since we've been wanting to try it for a while. But I guess we waited too long before it started going downhill. Never coming back here again.

Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening and we were literally the only ones dining the entire time we were there. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was how sticky the floor was. Hubby and I both got the ume jewelry box (salmon, tuna, egg, cucumber, eel). My child got the beef box (beef, rice, gyoza, juice, and mochi ice cream). However, instead of gyoza she got chicken karaage (probably because we ordered the chicken karaage appetizer and it was just easier to toss that in instead of make gyoza). I had to ask for her "juice" which ended up being a can of Calpico since it was forgotten when her food came out. Hubby and I also shared a chicken karaage but I took one bite and it was a hard pass for me. The color of the karaage should have been an obvious clue that something wasn't right (it was white instead of a golden color). There was barely any breading and it was incredibly dry because chicken breast was used instead of chicken thigh. The fish in our ume jewelry boxes looked like the reject pieces of fish since they were thin, randomly cut pieces of salmon and teeny tiny pieces of tuna. There was barely any tamago and eel (probably about the size of my pinky). I don't use wasabi but noticed that they didn't provide any wasabi but had Kikkoman wasabi sauce on the counters which is not the same. Service was also questionable. Even though we were the only ones dining in we had to keep asking for water refills. The waitress barely spoke to us the entire meal and only mumbled a few words here and there.

Surreal experience. The place was empty on a Friday night which should have been the first clue something was not right. Sat down and tried to order a tea, but was told they were out of that particular one. I am not exactly sure what else the waitress said. Maybe English was her second language, but she was soft spoken and mumbled. Then my date and I realized they had the same Jake Jonson song on repeat. We felt like we were going crazy because the staff did not seem to notice or care. It felt like some kind of time warp by the 10th time the song cycled through. The food was just fair, nothing special. There was a lack of tuna rolls on the menu, it was mostly salmon and tempura. I was really disappointed as Chicago Ramen has great food. I could not help but think this place is like the ignored step-child of this restaurant family. Definitely not a repeat.

This is my favorite sushi place in Chicago. Went in for lunch with my sister after aggressive shopping experience. From the salad to dessert, everything was delicious. Massive portions, hope they never change. (Because I know a lot of places do this) Authentic flavors, honestly better than sushi from Japan I had past March. Dying to go back, but it's kind of far away from my house. Hope they stay open as long as I can visit. But yes. This place is my favorite place to get sushi.

I try to avoid giving bad reviews these days, but Chicago Sushi was just plain bad. The Shrimp Curry was ok. Reminded me of instant curry (which I eat at home regularly), and the shrimp was pretty decent. However, as a sushi place the only thing they need to get right is fresh fish. The Chirashi's fish was mushy and fishy smelling. Texture had no bounce, and it was just limp and way too soft. You could just pull it apart. It was definitely past when they should have been selling it. Such a shame, as the reviews are not generally bad for this spot. However, selling old fish is unforgivable at a sushi restaurant. Think about this next time you get one of those fancy rolls that have sauces and toppings which hide the smell and texture of the fish. Absolute miss.

The food was terrible. The fish was extremely chewy and none of the premium/signature rolls as described. they were all just fills with imitation crab only. To top it off, they got our order wrong giving us an extra Salmon Lover Roll instead of a Yellowtail Lover Roll. Will not be getting food here again.

Chicago Sushi is a casual restaurant that serves delicious Japanese cuisine. I discovered this restaurant because it is located next to Chicago Ramen, where I recently ate. I'm also curious if this is a sister company to Chicago Ramen. The setting is quiet possibly because I'm the only person in here other than the sushi chef and the waitress. I'm relieved to be able to eat peacefully after a long day at work. Their menu offers a broad selection of intriguing foods ranging from hand rolls, specialty rolls, rice dishes, and ramen. Unfortunately, my stomach is small, or I would have ordered the entire menu. While I waited for my meal, I seized the opportunity to browse the details of the area. It has many charming Japanese decorations around the interior spaces. I can't help but note that the main feature of the design is natural wood, which gives it an earthy vibe. As an appetizer, I got the fried oysters with drizzling tonkatsu sauce, which has a sweet and acidic aftertaste to balance out the savory of the oyster. It was served with a mildly rich and creamy egg salad on the side. My entree was the pork cutlets curry. The pork is thin and slightly dry. The breading appears to be unevenly coated. To season and color the white rice, dried seaweed was sprinkled on top. The curry gravy was the winner for me; it had a thick texture and an explosive curry taste. To conclude my dinner, I had the mochi ice cream. Originally, I wanted the green tea tiramisu, but they were out. I was disappointed because the mochi ice cream was presented in an ordinary way that I could easily acquire at a regular Asian grocery store. The service was quick. The meals arrived promptly and hot, and the service was decent but not overwhelming, allowing me to appreciate the dish. I'm pleased I stopped by because I would not have had the opportunity to try it otherwise. This will be my new favorite Japanese restaurant in the Des Plaines area.
