First time here, it's Dairy Queen, it's not spectacular but it's not bad. Service was prompt. The condition of the dining area needed some attention, especially the walls. If the visible areas aren't clean then what about the unseen areas?

Let us start this review by saying that this specific Dairy Queen will never get our business under any circumstances again, and a zero is the only possible rating we could give the place if giving a zero was actually possible. At Christmas of 2023 we ordered a cake from this Dairy Queen and when we went in to pick the cake up it was not there. We were told it was made but given to another customer in error. We took home a plain cake and decorated it ourselves for Christmas. Because we are regular customers of this Dairy Queen we decided to "give them another chance" Christmas 2024. We went into the shop 12/20 to order the cake and explained what had happened the year before and were very specific about our concerns. We were told that they were confident that there would be no problems this year. What a mistake. The employee began by taking our order on a slip of paper (see photo) rather than an order form. We explained certain specific things we wanted on the order and were told "no problem," though the specifics were not written down we were told not to worry. Again BIG mistake. We came in to pick up the cake on Christmas Eve and the very specific thing we asked for on the cake was not there and the very specific thing we asked not to be anywhere on or in the cake was both on and in the cake. Being Christmas Eve we took the cake home and returned on 12/26 to register our complaint. We were told that the only way we could speak with a manager was to leave our phone number which we did. No Surprise. No Call Back. We then called again and were told that no manager was in but that they would call. Needless to say we had to call a third time before finally receiving a return call. The call was a complete waste of time. The person we spoke with was unprofessional, accusatory, rude, angry, condescending, and loud. He raised his voice in such a way that we put the call on speaker so others in the house could hear his tone, his volume, and exactly what he was saying. He treated us like we were fools who did not know what we were ordering. He stated that he was ALWAYS in the store but when we asked if we could come into to show him the "order form" and a picture of what we received he said "NO" and followed that with; "What do you think that this is the only thing I do." He finally agreed to look at the picture of the "order form" and the cake if we sent it to him but that he would not be there for us to bring it in and that he would get back to us after he "read our review." Thirty minutes after we sent him the pictures he called and offered us a refund saying that after "looking at the tape" he now understood our complaint. While an apology and a refund would have easily made the initial error right, there is not a refund large enough to cover how we have been treated through this process. The lack of response, the rude and unprofessional attitude upon the call back, and our belief that it was only because we had a picture of both the order form and the resulting cake that led to a change in attitude and an offer to "make it right." Our advice is to take your business elsewhere in Elmhurst. This Dairy Queen turns the enjoyment of ice cream into a nightmare.

First one there and last one helped with online order. Awful customer service. The staff just talk amongst themselves and don't pay attention to who they should be attending to first, instead they take the order or help the last person in there.

I preordered a cake for my boyfriends birthday and everything went smoothly. The service was quick and easy, everyone was very nice and helpful. The ice cream cake was super cute and yummy, but from the two times I've had a slice there was a mysterious piece of paper or wax in the cake. My boyfriend also found some in his slice as well.

First, I want to say DQ is delicious. Which is why I ordered my husband's birthday cake from them. I placed a cake order online on Friday. The website is very clear that you have to allow two days in advance for an order (which is what I did). I selected to pick up the cake on Sunday at 1 o'clock. I arrived at the DQ at 2 o'clock on Sunday and the cashier could not find my cake. She proceeded to call her manager. she explained that while she did see my order posted in the back she didn't see my cake. Her manager told her that I needed 24 hours in advance to order a cake and I explained that I actually ordered 48 hours in advance and I have the email for proof. Needless to say I ended up picking a cake from the fridge and put the messaging on myself at home. The cashier offered me nothing to make up for the mistake. No apologies simply "oh she must've not been able to get to it". Really? So disappointing. This was terrible customer service. We all make mistakes and they clearly missed my order. If they simply owned up to it and apologized I would have been fine but there was no apology, and no accountability. There are plenty of other day DQs I can go to, and I will give them a try next time instead of this store.
