After breakfast in Gilman, Illinois, we drove toward Chicago O'Hare International Airport. More driving until we decide to stop for lunch. It was the end of 10 Day Road trip for me in November 2024 and was sad to see it end. As we drove around the city looking for a suitable place for lunch, we opted for authentic Mexican fare. It was simple yet interesting at the same time. And so, we decided to come to Carnitas Don Alfredo when we saw them passing by, so we turned around and found parking. It was a small hole in the wall restaurant that seemed largely a take out place. They had about 4 tables inside and we sat down. Upon arrival, there was some people in line so we just waiting outside for our turn. The line went down quicker than I expected it to be and we ordered and received our order within 20 minutes. Authentic Mexican fare is quick and easy for many of their dishes. I ended up getting the carnitas asada tacos, which really hit the spot. It felt so much like a local dive restaurant at it seems like it is a place that only locals would know or any tourist that happened to be driving by, like my friend and I. The total time spent here was about 30 minutes. To order and pick up, and to eat our meal was about 30 minutes in total. My friend had a burrito while I had the Carnitas Asada tacos. It was quite the deli to see that I have been waiting for and my taste buds agree with me. Dishes all around and it was definitely well received by my stomach. Chicago definitely has some good Mexican cuisine hotspots, and this place is included definitely. For the most part, though, it was an interesting way to find this restaurant because we were just circling the area looking for something to see and decide upon. We were glad that we found this place because it was inexpensive and budget friendly for us travelers who are on a budget. And so, if you're near the Chicago O'Hare International Airport and some authentic Mexican food is up your alley, come on by Carnitas Don Alfredo. The overall experience here at Carnitas Don Alfredo authentic Mexican cuisine restaurant was cut and dry. It was a largely take out restaurant that has people waiting for their food and leaving the area. It looked like this place is a popular one and a hidden gem near the Chicago international airport area. They have an extensive menu, but my eye caught the carne asada and that was the one I wanted. I had to squint my eyes to read the menu that was plastered on their wall behind the counter. The staff here at this restaurant was patient with me as I looked through the menu and came to a conclusion. It was a nice spot to have lunch and while they did not have indoor seating with air conditioner, and all that, it was the next best thing to good quality, Mexican authentic fair at a reasonable price. They use fresh ingredients and you can actually taste it quality that is put in to every order that they make, mine included. If you're in the area, I encourage you to come here and taste the difference here at Carnitas Don Alfredo. You'll be surprised at what you would find here. Best bet is to come here before the lunch crowds to secure the best possible parking spots. Definitely recommended if you're in the area and needs some nourishment before leaving Chicago or after you arrived and not yet eaten yet. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, there is limited parking next to the restaurant, so if those spaces are filled up already, They expect us to find street parking wherever you can find it. As for me, though, I came and left here through Rent-A-Car driven by my friend. Not sure if there is public transportation that can get you to this authentic Mexican restaurant. You would want to see if they do online by searching Chicago's public transportation system. If nothing else, rent a car and you'll be guaranteed to have a ride here. Uber and Lyft can also assist you in getting you here as well, it's just little bit more expensive, but it can be a good thing versus renting a car. And so, if you like authentic Mexican cuisine and in the Chicago area, consider coming to this Carnitas Don Alfredo restaurant. Not sure if they have public Wi-Fi or air condition because everything is outside, as far as the seating area goes. Not sure either if they have restrooms or not. Better go before you get here. They also serve drinks and other things to combine with your meal. I feel like my experience was quick and painless. Just order, pick up and leave. If you choose to sit and eat, it's as good if you have the time. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4 .0 stars for the ambience and the service. 4.0 stars for the food. 3.0 stars for the prices. The meats are incredibly seasoned well melts in your mouth and go with the hand made tortillas they are nice and fluffy. The staff and customer service is very friendly. The Alpastor tacoscare my favorite that tangy taste of the pineapples with the seasoned meat gets me all the time .Great place to go and try something new to eat

The food and the Service are 5 stars every time!!! "Erica" always goes out of her way to make your order and stay perfect. She is a very nice, patient (simpatica) person and speaks at least two languages. She remembers your preferences and is always friendly and smiling.. I get food here for my mom who is from Mexico and she prefers the tortillas and food from the Maywood location. The service is fast and the food is excellent The parking lot is small but the inside of the restaurant there are a lot of places to sit places so popular they built a second restaurant right next to the first restaurant that tells you all you need to know it's family friendly or good for date night.

The best tacos de cabeza! Their menudo is to die for too! I have not tried anything here that i didn't like but I make the drive for the tacos de cabeza alone because they are the best I've ever had.

Came here on a Sunday and it was just alright. In terms of the carnitas, they truly do have one of the best carnitas in the area. But a huge game changer in the tacos are their tortillas. Normally they have their own freshly hand made tortillas, but they ran out that day. It does make a huge difference in taste and flavor because their tortillas are really a game changer when you try them. They replaced them for el milagro and it's just not as good a taco as you are hoping. The price for the tacos didn't change too. I ordered also some takeout carnitas and chicharrones by the pound and it was good. I did the Carnitas Special meal that came with a pound of carnitas to go, rice, beans, onions/cilantro, and tortillas for around $22 dollars. Again, they didn't have the fresh home made tortillas and it's just not worth it at that point. Got a packet of el milagro tortillas that prob cost no more than 75 cents. I'm glad I checked my takeout order because they didn't include the hot sauce. Had to ask for it. I still like Carnitas Don Alfredo, but just not feeling this location. Not much seating and the parking is tight since it's shared with a gas station. The service was alright. I still would recommend Carnitas Don Alfredo, but just not this location. The Northlake location was a much better experience.
