Any day of the week, any time of the day (no closures in the afternoon) I can depend on Sushi Kaya for a fresh and tasty meal. They have a LOT of creative maki rolls as well as other lunch and dinner entrees, both cooked and raw. There is something here for everyone! They even offer homemade gluten-free "crunch" made from potatoes, which is a delicious garnish. Just a few of the rolls I love are Snow White, Tiger, Gold Roll, Super Mango Maki (any roll with mango is yummy!) and Rainbow Maki. The Chirashi also delivers. Portions are fair. Heeyeon is a wonderful server. She always greets customers with a smile, as does the chef. There are other sushi spots in our area with indifferent and even unfriendly workers, but that is definitely not the case at Kaya. Eating out anywhere is a budget-stretching luxury these days, and an important part of the experience for me is to feel a friendly vibe. I stopped for dinner yesterday after a very stressful afternoon. Even though it has been a while since my last visit, Heeyeon remembered that I always get a large hot sake and ask for the potato crunch. Without me asking, she automatically withheld the sweet soy drizzle and brought our GF soy sauce. It is extra care like this that makes Kaya a standout go-to! When you visit, don't expect a fancy venue with trendy cocktails and glitzy light fixtures.....but you CAN expect great food and great service, which to me adds up to great value.

Easy parking in lot in front of the restaurant which is in a strip mall. Once inside, it feels like an oasis and not at all like a strip mall. Plenty of seating with warm wooden furniture. Soft classical jazz music in the background. On a Saturday night, only a couple other tables were taken. We were seated immediately and provided the waters we requested. The menu is extensive but the server knew exactly when we'd finished deciding and came to take our order. The miso soup and salad arrived under 5 mins after ordering. The salad had a fresh orange dressing that provided a refreshing citrus flavor and no mayo so it felt quite light and flavorful. Once we finished the soup and salad, the sushi arrived quickly. The nigiri salmon was excellent - melt in your mouth quality. The nigiri tuna was definitely the best I've had. And I loved the maki. The negi hamachi had far larger pieces of fish than I've seen anywhere else. And the sushi rice had some sesame seeds in it, giving it a slight bit of satisfying crunch. We should have stopped there but everything was so delicious and fresh that we ordered the mango crunch maki for dessert. The mayo was fresh and ripe, offering a succulent contrast to the sweet soy drizzled on top. But it was a little too sweet for my husband. The crunch came from what we think might be puffed corn. I didn't like the crunch and felt it detracted from the mango. Others would probably love it but I'll stick with the fish! Can't wait to return!

We came in for a late dinner and got seated quickly. Servers were attentive and fast. I ordered the salmon (sake) don and my friend got the Maki Pick 2 B. The salmon was fresh and yummy, and I liked the furikake they put over the rice. With a little soy sauce, the whole thing was delicious. I do wish there was a little bit more rice, and maybe one or two more slices of salmon but I was still quite full at the end of my meal.

We've lived about 1/2 mile from Sushi Kaya for more than 5 years, but never noticed it driving by, so my only suggestion is they get a website and keep it up to date! Only found this gem of a restaurant through Yelp. The quality of the fish was excellent! The selection was varied and creative and the presentation beautiful! Two of us shared the Sushi, Sashimi & Maki Combo C, which included Spicy Salmon maki, Caterpillar maki, 8 pieces of nigiri and 12 pieces of sashimi (tuna, salmon, white tuna and red snapper) and miso soup. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. The prices were higher than what I remembered seeing on the Yelp site, but fair given the quality of the food. We will certainly be returning!

Classic old school kind of place for sushi with a bit of modernness but not too much of course. It's the best place for sushi in Morton Grove. Sushi Kaya is authentic but it's not stifling creativity at the same time. Get lots of the classic rolls along with a few new kinds. The prices are pretty good for the lunch specials. A lot to like about the sushi including that you get a lot for cheap. It has quite a few specials to choose from. There's sushi along with noodles and other items. It's $16 for the Maki Combo. This is a meal with miso soup and the choice of 2 maki rolls. Good value for a lot of food. We got it with the Avocado and the Sweet Potato Maki. Lots of food. The avocado was creamy, and the sweet potatoes were cooked enough to be soft and firm at the same time. Hard to stand out from all the sushi places around here. It manages to yet do so even though it's an unassuming place. The miso soup and quite a few of the rolls are okay for vegetarians.

This place is so cute. It was calm when my party came for dinner. The waitress was very sweet and the men that were visible making sushi were so nice, too. The food came out pretty quick and it was delicious. The waitress even ran out to give us our one to-go roll that I forgot on the table (lol). Honestly, I want to come back and order enough sushi it get it on the wooden boats. Some day ~

My friend suggested Sushi Kaya in Morton Grove and I was happy to go there, as I drive Dempster quite often and was not familiar with it. There is a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant (this is in Dempster). There was just one other party dining when we arrived. We were a little surprised that there was not a lunch menu. Prices seemed high for lunch, and we both settled on the sushi roll combo (2) with miso soup. I picked the ebi q and rock 'n' roll. The roll was perfectly fine, the portion seemed a little meagre (see my picture my lunch was $18). We both finished our meals and (unbeknownst to my friend) I stopped at a bubble tea shop afterwards because I was still hungry. I might return for dinner to try some of the other dishes. They had some selections of donburi which is one of my favorites.

Sushi Kaya is a great place for sushi. We tend to get sushi boats and come in every so often for sushi lunches. I think once you get off the menu you may be met with a little Korean flair in the dish. I recall having japchae noodles come under what I think was katsudon. So for that I'll ding it as it didn't seem 100% Japanese when we went off the sushi menu. However good nonetheless.

Ive been coming here since I was a kid and they have always been the loveliest people, hands down my favorite sushi place I've ever been to. I've been to dozens of restaurants and nothing will ever come close to the sushi here. The food is so fresh and the quality is unbeatable, its the perfect place for a date night any day of the week. Don't miss out!!

This place is a staple of the neighborhood. It's easy to miss by outsiders, but if you've lived in the area long enough, and love sushi, then you know and love sushi Kaya. The food is good and the quality is reliable. Nothing fancy, just good sushi. Classically decorated, clean, good service, and nice people. If you're looking for good sushi without flare, this is a place you can bet on.
