Today while performing my work related duties I had the privilege of being involved in the returning of a Purple Heart to a war veterans family. The Purple Heart was left in a safe deposit box and thanks to the hard work of the Illinois State Treasurers unclaimed property team family members were located and the Purple Heart is now in the hands of loving family instead of a cold vault Congratulations to the team and to the family and thanks to this VFW hall for hosting this very important event And also thanks for the yummy lemon fluff cake and coffee God Bless our veterans !

My father was a World War II veteran, and we used to frequent there. They were very kind to him back then. In addition, our same regular group did karaoke regularly there for many years and we brought thousands of dollars in business to them each year. We also recommended them to friends who had their funeral lunches and other banquets there. But, never again. Sadly, there is new management there now. They are now unwelcoming, rude when we go there, and when we called to find out when the next karaoke was, they yelled at several of us and hung up on us. A once warm and proud place has deteriorated into a very hostile and sad environment. Avoid this place. They are a disgrace to veterans and their families and shouldn't be allowed a charter as a vfw

More than 1,300 veterans comprise the Oak Lawn VFW post, which includes combat veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Members of the Johnson-Phelps post donate hundreds of volunteer hours to supporting veterans and their families, community outreach and events commemorating the military. The post also has a women's auxiliary. The post operates a meeting hall that is available for private rental and includes a banquet room. Many local organizations use the hall for meetings and events, such as Bingo. Banquet packages are available, including food and beverages, and there is a kitchen for preparation. The post meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month; the women's auxiliary the first Tuesday of the month. The lounge opens at noon.

I attended a bridal shower at this VFW this past weekend. I can't comment on pricing because I was just a guest at the shower. The room, along with the bathrooms, were both very clean. The bartended was a little rude but I guess that's ok. The room was very plain which was perfect because my friend's sister was able to decorate it beautifully. There was even a small stage where my friend was able to open her gifts and everyone had a good view.
