A Disappointing New York-Style Experience

We were eager to try Salvatore’s Pizza based on its reputation for authentic New York-style pizza. Unfortunately, our experience was far from the New York pizza we know and love.

We ordered a variety of dishes, including a white cheese slice, a white slice, meatballs and spaghetti, and a personal meat pizza. None of these dishes lived up to our expectations. The pizza crust lacked the desired crispiness and chewiness, the sauce was bland, and the cheese was underwhelming. The meatballs and spaghetti were similarly disappointing.
Given our positive experiences in New York, this meal was a stark contrast.

We were so disheartened by the food that we didn’t even bother with the cannoli. It’s unfortunate that a restaurant with such high ratings could deliver such a mediocre dining experience

We were visiting from out of state. We used to love to go to NY Pizza in Homewood village and super sad to see they had closed. We found Salvatore's and we were not disappointed! It was fabulous! We ordered 3 larges: the NY Sal's Special and the chicken/pesto Mediterranean-type. Feeding 9 young adults they were gone in a blink with everyone commenting on how good it all was!

We have been going to this Salvatores in Hoover for years. Usually we go inside for a slice and a drink. They have slices ready to go and we’ve never had to wait long. The XL pizza IS actually extra large! Cannot recommend the plain cheese pizza enough. Might be the best in Birmingham!

The inside is pretty no-frills, but always pretty clean. Order at the counter and then sit and wait. There is a drink cooler, soda dispensers with Coke products, and a tub of ice with beers in it. They have a shaded outside area but no fans, so it is pretty hot in the summer.

Like any good restaurant in the South, it has a drive thru window! The customer service has always been great as well. Better quality for the same price you might pay at at a place in downtown BHM.

The only downside is how busy the traffic is getting in and out during peak traffic hours.

It was such a cozy comfortable spot! This might sound negative, but I don’t live in the city. It’s almost like a “hole in the wall” & those are the best places to get comfort food! The staff was friendly & kind, & it felt homey & welcoming. The food was incredible & I was excited to take home my leftovers, they aren’t stingy with their food!! I recommend any dish made from this place, it felt like it was made with love & care, the flavors speak for themselves! Great meals for a great price!! I can’t wait to go back! This is now my favorite Italian restaurant!

Family owned, located in an old Pizza Hut building (I believe), people are super friendly, courteous and helpful. I love supporting the locals wherever I go. We got the Sicilian pepperoni and a Hawaiian pizza. Both were delicious. Maybe a little more topping in the Sicilian would be my only change to what we got. Definitely recommend and will definitely go back!
