This place is FIRE!!! If you are reading this and you are very hungry; eat here now! To all my peoples in Wichita -- Let me help deconstruct the matter so it makes a little bit more sense. So as most of you know, Korean BBQ has been trending all over the world and it's been a fanfare for many years now. And for those of you who are unfamiliar with KBBQ and AYCE -- these acronyms stand for Korean BBQ and All You Can Eat. Disclaimer: you will smell like charcoal smoke so be advised not to wear your Balenciaga cashmere sweater! Haha, next, in the world of KBBQ, we grill our own food so it's hot off the press and fresh in your tummy. Secondly, hot pot is known in Japanese culture as Shabu Shabu -- meaning, Ghengis Khan used to cook live cattle meat with veggies in a ginormous wok, so he can feed all of his soldiers during their Mongolian conquest when it was freezing cold out. So put 1 + 1 together (KBBQ + HOT POT) and you get this beautiful hybridization known as KPOT. This concept is trending all over California because for one; when you have a ravenous appetite, this place will suffice and two; during a freezing cold February stretch, KPOT will warm you up just like it did Ghengis Khan and all of his soldiers during the harsh Siberian winters. I come from a place called Koreatown Los Angeles, where we take Korean BBQ to new heights each and every year. And let me tell all of you Wichitans something; you have no clue how good this restaurant is on a metric of good to greatest from California to New York. You guys have a 5% Asian population here and yet, you have restaurants like KPOT, KyuRamen and Kimchi. How spoiled you are here in Kansas! Wichita is so beautiful BTW and your food and beef quality is superb. Thank you Kansas! You fed me so well during my stay. I leave for Cali in the morning. Going going back back to... you know the rest :)

We recently had a group of 8 for my mother in law's 85th birthday. Many of our party had never had hot pot or Korean BBQ before and everyone enjoyed it! It's great for people who have different pallets. You choose your soup base and then you order what you want in your soup and you cook your own soup. You also order what you want to bbq and you bbq it right at your table. They have a hot table with hot appetizers and a sauce bar for you to make sauces for dipping all of your foods. Spicy, sweet savory, fresh peppers, cilantro chopped garlic. All of the servers were attentive and kind. We had lovely experience. I highly recommend this location. Whether you're a hotpot regular or new to hotpot, this is a great spot for filling up on nutritious food. It's a great time and an excellent way to try lots of different foods

Trizha chose this place for her birthday dinner. We were a party of five and it being a Monday, there wasn't really a wait although you can tell the place is popular. The restaurant is clean and the appetizer/dessert/condiment station is tidy. There was not a lot of meat and seafood selection compared to the ones we've been before but they have beef bulgogi and beef short ribs so we're happy about that. They hand you an iPad to place your orders. Since we only liked the bulgogi and the short ribs, we'd double up each time we order and each time, they only delivered a plate for each. So for all five of us, they only delivered 4 plates of short ribs which had 2 pieces on it. Was it worth $32? Not for me. There is a 2- hour limit and an extra charge if they deemed that you ordered too much and didn't eat most of your food. But the fact that they were stingy in sending your orders, you're not likely to have any leftovers.

One of my favorite spots whenever we go up to Overland Park--- hubs and I have been waiting for this Wichita location to open and it hasn't disappointed us yet! Service is quick. The 2 hour time limit is plenty of time for us. Sometimes we have to a wait a bit to get seated, but since we're in the mall already, waiting doesn't seem so bad. You can walk around the mall but make sure you pay attention to your phone for when they alert you that your table is ready! Food wise--We always did both hotpot and grill, but during our last two visits we focused on hotpot only and we felt like we could enjoy our meal more without having to pay attention to what we are grilling. Ambiance-- is it a little weird that mall walkers can see you through the windows while you're eating? Of course. But will I keep dining here? Yes!

The wait times? This has been an area of complaints, just know you are going to have to wait. Put your name on the list and then walk the mall, play some arcade games or sit in a massage recliner scattered around the mall. Just don't plan your dinner around a quick bite unless you enjoy testing your patience. That being said, the food totally makes up for it. Let's talk menu. If you're a first-timer, it can feel like you're trying to decipher hieroglyphics, but fear not! My pro tip: stick with the classics (like I did). You'll be a BBQ & Hot Pot maestro in no time. So, a fun little fact: everyone in your party has to order the same thing. Translation: no "I'll have the hot pot, and you have the BBQ" shenanigans. But don't worry -- I ordered both (a solid rookie move) and it worked out perfectly. We got the mushroom soup base, healthy herbs, and Japanese miso. All very flavorful, but none of them scream "I'm overpowering your meat and veggies !" The miso? I only used it with seafood, bok choy, and mushrooms, keeping it classy and light. The meats were tender and cooked quickly, which was perfect because no one has the patience to wait for meat. Well, maybe some people do, but I don't. Now, here's a pro tip for BBQ: order the BBQ items as you're finishing up your hot pot. Trust me, that way you won't find yourself twiddling your thumbs while you wait for the next round. As for the BBQ? The hanger steak, beef tongue, garlic chicken, short ribs, and pork belly were absolute winners. Seriously, I can't even pick a favorite, but if I had to, I'd say the garlic chicken would be a clear frontrunner. And don't forget the self-serve sauce bar. Use it. Follow the posted recipes or get wild and make your own sauce masterpiece -- either way, it's a must. The spicy bulgogi, however? Not a winner. It was a little grainy (cue sad trombone). But hey, you can't win 'em all, right? And yes, there is a two-hour time limit -- because, apparently, they've heard about those people who think Korean BBQ is a marathon. But no worries, just pace yourself and savor every piece of thinly sliced meat you dip in sauce. You could seriously spend the entire night just doing that, and honestly, I'm not mad at it. We didn't touch the buffet because, let's face it, we were busy with the BBQ and hot pot, but there's a buffet too if you want to be even more adventurous. All in all, a fun, interactive dinner for our party of three, and we'll definitely be back for round two.

TLDR: Food: 5/5 Tasty, Service 3/5 Spotty, Ambiance: 4/5 On Trend. Food: As good as you make it. There is a lot of good ingredients and if you are familiar with the process then it will go well. If you aren't, then going with someone who can show you the ropes is a must. You can always Google it or ask your server but since it is based on personal preference in a lot of ways, you could end up disappointed if you are not a good cook normally. Ambiance: Loud but trendy. Service: So-so. It really depends on what server you get. Overall, try it out but if you are a first timer, only do one or the other as trying to tackle both hot pot and KBBQ can be intimidating and time consuming if you aren't used to it. My rule of thumb: Veggies in the pot. Meat on the grill. If you cook meat in the pot just a quick dip unless it's just for flavor because otherwise it will be rubbery.

This was our first time at K-Pot and it was absolutely amazing. Haley helped us out and walked us through their ordering process, which was very simple thanks to her. All the meats we ordered were delicious and I really liked that they were endless. The layout of the restaurant was also great, it's simple to get a full of everything. But what I liked the most was the fact that the smoke was sucked in right at the grill. I've been to other KBBQ where the smok overwhelmed the table and it was hard to keep a conversation going. Not at K-Pot, it's absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it for a great family dinner!
