I like rental cars. Not only can you buy access to a new-ish vehicle for a road trip, but you don't have to worry about long-term maintenance. And better still, you periodically get to learn a life lesson from your wizened rental car company. Like, 'don't buy the upsell on roadside assistance'. Or god forbid, 'don't come back without a full tank'. This time it was, 'don't you dare take a toll road'. One trip across the Ohio - a $4.10 toll - cracked the door for Avis to slap an additional $15 charge, which they happily pulled from my credit card. Perhaps it's my fault for not carefully reading the fine print. (I just wish more of that fee would actually go towards road maintenance.) Avis has generally served me well over the years. I only came here because they closed their downtown branch, making the airport location their closest to town. Then, despite my booking a reservation well in advance, it took 40 minutes for them to "find a car" for me. And when they found a car (I think they borrowed it from Budget?), I was greeted with a cocktail of new car smell, air freshener, and stale cigarette smoke. I do understand that price competition and general logistics are factors for any company, sometimes at the expense of customer service. But it doesn't mean I have to like it.

NEVER Use this company. Arrived Louisville to find out that Avis has NO cars. Asking people to wait 1 to 1 1/2 hours and people still here! I feel like the episode of Seinfeld. "They know how to take the reservation but don't know how to hold the reservation" NEVER USE!!!!!

I would never use avis as my car rental place again. After they released the hold on my deposit a week later.They want to charge me a two hundred fifty dollar cleaning fee.That was clearly not my fault. Beware of avis they are very crooked.

First and last time using Avis ! I reserved the car through Breeze airlines and what a big mistake .. waited 40 minutes in line just to be told by customer service the car would be ready in 1-2 hours. Said to wait in the area and they would shout out our name when car ready. I have never experienced such lack of professionalism and courtesy from a business. I hope no one uses this rental Company.

The Louisville Airport Avis doesn't answer the phone. Tried calling ~15 separate times. The guy directing car returns was wearing pajama pants and slides with headphones listening to his phone. No indication he works for Avis. Looked like a random guy stepping in to direct cars. The manager Bob was nowhere to be found. The person that answered the nation wide call center was so childish when I asked to speak to their manager. This place is the bottom rung of car rental agencies. Their 1.3 Star rating says a lot. I'd spend your money somewhere else that appreciates your business.

WARNING - AVIS Louisville Airport VERY RUDE STAFF and Bag STOLEN from AVIS rental on Aug 1 while still in AVIS possession. Staff behavior suggests insider involvement & cover-up. As a loyal AVIS customer for 20+ years, this is deeply frustrating. Only one staff member tried to help; managers were dismissive or unwilling to assist. Reserved a car back in June for today Dec 26th. Got to the airport to pick up the vehicle. No problems. The agent was very pleasant and helpful. I was in and out of there within 15 minutes. Will do business again. Very reasonably priced at less than $1000 for 10 days for a full-sized SUV.

We rented a truck to help move my son, outside of a cigarette burn on the driver seat the truck was otherwise in good working order. We turned the truck in and all was well until we received a $450 cleaning fee. The car was cleaner when we dropped it off than pick-up. What a joke rent from a proper rental company it is not worth it, all my business typically goes to Enterprise for a reason.

"AVIS Preferred" means they prefer to waste your time and dishonor a prepaid rental agreement. No cars are available at this location. There were no options. I waited in line for 20 minutes to be told they had no cars. They would not cancel the confirmation, so Avis says I will be charged the full amount. Avoid this location, staff, and airport. Horrible customer service.

They need to update their online system. I was able to make a reservation but when I arrived they were closed for the day. (8pm on a Saturday) Also, I make same day reservations every time I get a vehicle through the airport, so when I got to the front desk I asked if the managers special would be a pickup truck, he said yes and then asked for my card and Id but then told me we don't do same day reservations bc they're low on vehicles after he told me a pickup truck was available. I'd only recommend Avis for very last resort.
