I very seldom give a rating for any establishment but not only will I for this one but I will also give it a five star rating! Rich has been perfect and if you find a problem with this B&B , it's definitely you and not this place! Absolutely an amazing five day stay we had here.

I was put up here by the University for an interview the next day. Be sure to look for the sign because the house itself is nondescript and you will drive right by if you aren't looking. Parking is located in the back or they will give you a pass to park on the street if you want. The proprietors are great guys and made me feel really welcome! The second I arrived he showed me around the place and to my room, highlighting the place for breakfast in the morning and the rules of the place. In the morning, breakfast was at the table. It just included some muffins, fruit, cereal and coffee, but it was good. Had a great chat with Rich while I ate and with some of the other guests. The only thing was that since it is an old house the walls are paper thin. I had a couple of guests in the room beside me come home from a late night and angry with one another who felt like arguing at 2am. To their credit, they got the hint really quickly and toned it down after I knocked on the wall. If you are looking for a nice little place that's different from the norm then stay here. Very hospitable!

What a fabulous place. We've stayed here two years in a row while attending a conference at the University of Louisville. It's much closer to the University than the official conference hotel, less expensive, and WAY cooler. I've only met one of the proprietors, but he's always been incredibly friendly. He's quick to recommend restaurants or activities, and provides cool information about the city. We stayed in the Garden Room both times, which has two large windows and a super comfy bed. The TV is small, but it tucks away in a cabinet (and really, I'm not on vacation to watch TV anyway). The Garden Room is also the only bathroom with natural light, I believe. You can hear others talking a bit - it is an old house - but the walls aren't nearly as thin as I feared, and I've certainly stayed in expensive hotels that were much louder. It's kitschy and charming, and the decor really gives it a special character. Every time I look, I discover a new artifact. The architecture is BEAUTIFULLY detailed throughout the house. A quirk: each room gets their own bathroom, but it's across the hall. I was initially skeptical, but it was really never an issue, and the fluffy bathrobes provided are a nice touch. I'm hoping to keep returning to the Columbine for years to come!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend trip to Louisville. The house is gorgeous and very well decorated (and I am picky!). The host was very welcoming, fun to chat with, and can cook a delicious breakfast. The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed was comfortable. We will definitely be back next time we visit Louisville and will recommend to our friends!

My partner and I stayed here during a trip west to visit my family. We could not have been more impressed. The house grounds were immaculate, with plenty of porch and garden space to enjoy. We stayed in the Garden Room and loved the ambiance of the mansion, especially the details like the stained glass or the grand staircase. Our host was excellent, and the breakfast was very enjoyable. The only thing we had trouble with was the tiny bathroom... easily resolved by staying in a room that has an attached bath! All in all this was the best B&B experience I've ever had.

I was in Louisville for one night on business, and wanted to try something new. I usually stay at courtyard marriots, or Holiday inn expresses, and Columbine B&B was just what I needed to make a routine business trip a refreshing and unique experience, and it was considerably less expensive. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood, with a few eating spots within walking distance. The hotel is tastefully furnished and well maintained. My bed had high-quality sheets, and breakfast was delicious. The owners were friendly. Staying here made me feel sharp.

I was in Louisville for a wedding and meeting new family, which is a little stressful for me - and this place made it relaxing and wonderful. The hotel is beautiful and has all the old Victorian furnishings you would want to see along with an eclectic mix of art that takes the stuffy out of the Victorian trimmings and makes it feel like home. It is a Victorian home, so the plumbing is authentic with beautiful claw foot baths and toilets with old fashioned tanks - which I really loved seeing, even if it was across the hall. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the garden filled with flowers blooming late in the fall. The hosts Rich and Bob were so friendly, the breakfasts delicious, and their recommendations for local sights were spot on. It is only about 3 blocks on foot from the B&B to the Comfy Cow a handmade ice cream shop that is worth the visit - we went there every night but one. The architecture on 3rd Street (where the Columbine is located) is beautiful and an amazing slice of Americana Architecture. My best B&B experience ever, and I highly recommend it to anyone staying in Louisville. Or wants a reason to go to Louisville,visit just go to stay here.
