I normally avoid wine/beer festivals in Kentucky as I feel I get a better deal at festivals in Indiana (Ky wine festivals have drink tickets, Indiana wine festivals don't). However, I won tickets this year through an Instagram contest and had to check it out. First of all, the weather was gorgeous. A friend and I headed downtown after work and parked at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. This made it super easy to leave when we were ready. Getting into the area was a bit of a hassle. There was a person checking IDs. A person to scan your ticket. A person to hand you wine tickets. A person to hand you your glass. And then a person to put your wristband on. Seems that this could be combined somehow. Once inside, there were 16 wineries, multiple food vendors, and several food demonstrations. We made a point not to get the same wines so that we could try each the other. This way - we actually got to try 30 wines. There were plenty of people walking around with cheese and crackers, which was nice to absorb some of the wine. Most wineries were not skimping on the pours and I was definitely glad to have a designated driver. I also loved the photo booth. Such a fun way to end the night! I feel like I've overlooked this event due to being spoiled by Indiana wine festivals. I had such fun that I could absolutely see myself buying tickets to this event in the future!

This was a choosing of myself and my sisters. The weather was perfect and couldn't ask for better. We did get to catch the very beginning of the Steamboat race which was exciting. We got to try a few wineries that were there, some I never even heard of. We stuck with mostly wine slushees. 502 winery in my opinion had the best one. There was also one called Jesters Winery that had good slushees. My favorites were 502 Winery and Brooks Hill Winery. The ones from Brooks Hill was Black and Blue and Lillie's summer wine. There was an abundance of cheese, crackers and other fruit to pair with the wine. My reason for 3 stars was I felt there was not enough selection. Only 16 wineries there. Not sure if I'll be back to the wine festival next year or not. We did have a great time.

This was my first year to experience Winefest, which is hosted in downtown Louisville on the Belvedere. It is held Tuesday and Wednesday of Derby Week. After being checked in (ID please!), you receive a lanyard with 15 tickets and a wine glass. Inside you'll find tents hosting different wineries, food trucks and some vendors. Each winery had a variety of wines, red and white, dry and sweet for sample. Each ticket got you a pour, probably 1 oz each. I appreciated that each table was given a pitcher of water to use for cleansing your glass between tastes of wines. The atmosphere is very casual. High top tables are scattered throughout and servers carry trays of cheese, crackers and fruit. Weather will play a factor in how enjoyable this event will be. There's no protection from sun or rain. This year's was warm but the Belvedere at least offers a fantastic breeze. I do wish there was seating strategically placed, like tables or loungers. (Note: wear comfy shoes) Ticket price pp is $45 and does not require a Derby pin. Parking can be found on the street or nearby garages such as the Galt House or Ky Center.

This very well might be my favorite Derby event. I have gone every year for the last 7 or 8 years. I am a huge fan of wine and hanging out on the Belvedere near the Chow Wagon where other fun festivities are taking place! The WineFest is held on two days of Derby week- Tuesday and Wednesday. I have always picked Wednesday to go because of two reasons: 1. It is the same day as The Great Steamboat Race and I love that too! 2. I figured the last day of the WineFest - the vendors would need to get rid of the wine so they have less to carry back so the pours will be more generous. :) Either way- it is $45 well spent and I plan on going every year that I am able. It is a pretty chill event. You get a program listing the wineries and kind of wines and a glass and you start tasting. There are cooking demos and cheese and fruit plates too. Looks like the weather will be great for it this year! I can't wait for tomorrow.

I have volunteered Kentucky Proud WineFest for the Kentucky Derby Festival the past two years, and it's been a blast both times! I definitely recommend checking out this event during the Derby Festival, especially if you're a wine lover. And, even if you're not, this is a great event to check out to try lots of new options at once, and get some good eats too! However, I do have to say, I feel like there were many more vendors in 2015 than there were in 2016. The weather could have had something to do with that, as this past year was cool and rainy. Still, it made the event much smaller, and it didn't feel as active. Nonetheless, it was still a good time and I would still recommend it!

I am a visitor from out of state and have attended many winefests in my home state. This is the worse wine I have tasted at any other winefest..by far! I am not a wine snob, but all I can say is if you order wine in an average restaurant you will be very disappointed in the quality of the wines served. Wines mixed with chocolate, wine slushies, wine made with concord grapes. There was one winery who imported grapes from outside the state that was good. Wines served here brought me back to the 70's and Annie Greensprings and Ripple. Kentucky, stick to raising horses and leave the wine business to other states.
