We picked up our rental car on a Thursday morning right when they opened at 8am. This location is on Canal Street and is the same place as Budget Car Rental (they're owned by the same parent company). When we were going through the pickup process, the representative asked for proof of insurance which was not typically our experience when getting a rental car. We got that sorted out but then later the credit cards wouldn't work on the machine so he tried another register and then it worked. This whole process took longer than we would've liked but we got here early expecting delays. We filled up gas at the Chevron station nearby before coming back. After we dropped off the car and were in the process of paying, they accidentally charged us for gas assuming we didn't fill up the tank. Eventually the representative was able to fix this and refunded us the gas amount charged and then we were on our way. There were a couple hiccups during our experience but they were eventually ironed out with some time and patience. It also helped that the workers were friendly and were knowledgeable and experienced in resolving issues. Everyone's experiences vary at places like these but I can say for us, the pickup and drop-off processes were smooth for the most part.

I have used Avis at other locations for more than a decade, and I've never seen a location as bad as the one at the New Orleans Airport. There was no one at the premium desk; that can be OK if you have the app. Unfortunately, our rental didn't have the car seat that we had reserved. I went back downstairs to the shared Avis/Budget desk, and told to talk to someone at the Preferred desk. I walked up to some employees in the parking lot who discussed what to do for a while. One of them said something I couldn't understand and began to walk away. 30 minutes later they hadn't returned, so I went back to the loitering employees. They told me to keep waiting. Finally after 45 minutes, the other employee returned with a car seat. It was the very cheapest kind of car seat, costing the same new as to rent for a week. It was also missing a Latch belt, so I installed it by seat belt. The car itself was very dirty. There was unwrapped candy on the floor and a used q-tip in the cupholder. Important for later in the story, there was pet hair on the floor. All four tires were under 15 PSI, but I figured that wasn't my problem. There were no employees to complain to, so we took the car. There were no staff upon return, either. Two weeks later, I received a letter in the mail that they would charge me $120 for cleaning the car, due to "excessive dirt / pet hair." I explained that the car was dirty when we got it and no animals were ever in the car while we rented, but they were uninterested. They also refused to refund the broken car seat. I am generally happy with Avis, but you should stay away from this location. They are clearly understaffed and a have a low quality service, charging customers to make up the difference. UPDATE: I emailed a different customer service address, and they did refund the $120 cleaning fee.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY- they are crooks ! They will overcharge , lie and keep trying to get money after they gave horrible service. We rented a car from canal, first they didint have the car ready, second they provided a car that had mechanical issues , dirty smelling like crack and needed service. Making it a liability to our safety. Rhen they promised to refund the ammount paid because of all the inconvinience and sis not follow through, HORRIBLE customer service, and THEN. To top it off, they have the oddasity and almost criminal behaviur to charge almost $500 for the cleaning of the car that was dirty and smelling kike crack to begin with. This is unaceptable and outside from being a complete fraud charge is almost as if they are trying to scam money out of their unhappy customers. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS EEEEVER . DISASTER

Reserved a car at a downtown New Orleans location, only to discover upon arrival that they had ZERO vehicles available. When I demanded a solution, they casually directed me to their airport location--forcing me to pay for an expensive taxi while I was already running late. Incredibly, after rushing to the airport, I was met with the SAME response: "Sorry, no cars available." Is this a car rental company or a cruel joke? Avis has utterly failed at the ONE fundamental aspect of their business: having cars available for confirmed reservations. They wasted my time, money, and pushed me to the brink of a breakdown--all while showing complete indifference to the chaos they created.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

I rented a car from New Orleans airport. My rental agreement was for $95.20. When I rented it, the lady at the desk didn't give me any paperwork. When I returned it, the man didn't give me a receipt. He said I would be emailed a receipt. I wasn't, but I was overcharged $16.84. Avis is a bunch of thieves. I emailed their customer service. They keep giving me the runaround by asking for information they already have like my credit card, etc. I put in a complaint against them at the BBB. They said the overcharged was for gas. The tank was full. They said I was short by .2. That means they are me charging $84.20/gallon. That's a scam and a bunch of thieves. Don't rent with them. If you do, get all the paperwork up front.

I would prefer to give zero stars. We were given an electric car as a rental, and we were told there were no other options. The agent promised that the car's range was 250 miles. Based on that representation, we set out for our destination, which was about 100 miles away. We were not even halfway there when we realized that the battery was depleting fast. We scrambled to find a charging station, but could not find one that with rapid capacity or that was compatible. We called Avis roadside assistance, but they could not contact their local service providers, so we were left on our own. It took most of the afternoon to locate a suitable charging station and then get the car charged enough to get back to our hotel. We finally arrived at 11 pm. The next morning, we returned to Avis and requested a non-electric vehicle. While they were able to get one for us, they did not apologize or offer any kind of discount for giving us a vehicle that was not suitable for our needs. Also, there was no mention that Avis roadside assistance failed to provide any help to us. Our sightseeing was severely cut back and the day was spent scrambling to find a suitable charging station. If Avis is going to use electric vehicles, they should make sure that there are suitable charging stations available, and their roadside assistance should be available to help stranded drivers.

This location is running a scam. They charged me a one-way fee for $250 even though it was the same location for pick-up and drop off. When I called to correct it, they then changed the fee to a "misc fee". Either way, the condition of the vehicle was the same as I received it and not additional charge was authorized or warranted.

I rented a car and paid $350.72 ahead of time online. We had bad weather at the airport and our plane was delayed 4 hours. Upon picking the car up 4 hours late, the transaction seemed to go smooth. They told me which car to take then some other woman told me she would email my rental agreement. Upon returning from my trip, I checked the emailed receipt and realized they charge me $968 instead of $350. There was a $90 fuel fee which I anticipated but otherwise nothing to suggest why the cost was so much higher. After hours of phone calls and many emails, they said it was because I picked the car up later than I had originally planned (due to the 4hr delay) so that voided the original rental agreement. The new rental agreement was for a higher price. I was not told this while getting my car, I was never shown a new rental agreement, and I didn't sign a new agreement. Now they are refusing to refund the $500 extra. Do not go through this company. They have fraudulent practices and will find a way to charge you more.

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. We had a reservation for a hour before we arrived. We waited in line for 45 minutes. Waited in the back after they were done with us at the counter for over 30 minutes and given no eta on when our rental would be ready. Avis is great for making you wait. We still don't have a car over an hour later.

Worst Avis I have been to and I have been to dozens. I have been here several times. Long waits. Dirty cars. Dirty interior in waiting area. Inaccurate billing as relates to fuel levels. The place is a dump.
