We stayed in the Greenwood Suite, which was huge, with a nice big bathroom. It opens onto its own porch, which looks out over St Charles St and made for good people watching. There is another common area porch on the Washington St side which is covered and was also pleasant when ours was too sunny. The only comment about that particular room is that it being on the front side, there was some street noise. I think all the other rooms would be a little quieter. I doubt it would bother you, unless you really need it quiet. The house, as others have said, is truly grand. Tall ceilings, wood staircases, and period furniture really made this feel like a comfortable antique. I see some reviews that complain of the old furniture and aged feel. If you like it new, plumb, and square, you should stay at HoJo's. If you like it with the character that only time can bring, you'll adore this house. Some reviewers have also commented on the breakfast. I think those are old and no longer valid. It is not a full service breakfast, but we were served items that were fresh, local, interesting, and varied. Threre was also staff on hand to offer the hot item of the morning, should you wish it. One morning was quiche, for example. But there was fresh local bread, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, interesting spreads, cereal, fruit, and much more, and if you can't make a breakfast out of that yo mama didn't raise you right. You don't want a huge meal anyway, because aren't you about to set off to explore New Orleans' great cuisine? Thanks, Bonnie & Friends, for a very nice, low key, southern-comfort stay. We appreciate your hospitality!

This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast, and it didn't disappoint! The architecture and design makes you feel like you've traveled back in time, it was beautiful. The staff was so nice and accommodating, and the view from the balcony was a great bonus! Will definitely be staying again the next time I come to New Orleans!

My wife and I met another couple for a weekend in New Orleans and we decided to find a place on St. Charles rather than amidst the silliness in the French Quarter. We found Grand Victorian and decided to give it a try despite some mixed reviews. We loved it! First, the location is as good as it gets. GVB&B is in the heart of the Garden District. You can walk to Commander's Palace. You can hop on the St. Charles trolley car and be on Canal Street in 10 minutes, or go the other way and be at Tulane in 10 minutes. If the weather is nice (and we picked a perfect weekend), there are any number of things you can walk to. The house itself is beautiful. Stunning, really. It is furnished with a lot of period pieces, and if that means you pine for every modern creature comfort that you could find at the InterContinental Hotel, well, you should have stayed at the InterContinental. But as B&Bs go, I thought it was lovely. Our room was not especially spacious, but it was big enough. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked, the rest of the house provides porches and sitting areas for conversation or reading or just relaxing. It had a small TV .... but if you are in New Orleans to watch TV ... go to the InterContinental. I have read some complaints here about the breakfast and true, it's not a "full breakfast". But I thought it was just fine. Good coffee, juices, cereals, breads, fruits. It was plenty, it was well presented, and nice. If you want eggs benedict ... go to the InterContinental. Plus, there are snacks available, gratis, all day long. That is a very nice touch. Finally, I don't know about you, but I don't fill up on breakfast while in New Orleans. There are SOOOO many great places to eat lunch and dinner in the Big Easy, why are you filling up at a B&B? Habit, I suppose. The innkeeper, Bonnie, is friendly without being too intrusive. She will take the time to help you plan your stay in New Orleans if you want. She cares about her guests. I thought she was great. Why didn't I give it 5-stars? Well, the only thing I didn't like was the required 3 night minimum during a "festival weekend" (we were there during the Blues and BBQ fest), but of course that is a testimony to the popularity of GVB&B. It's not a super-pricy place, but it is a bit higher priced than we would usually pay. And the room is on the small side. But all-in-all, I think it clearly deserves 4 stars. We will be back.

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Victorian at the end of January 2018. It was unusually cold that weekend but there was so much to do that it didn't impact our visit to New Orleans. The Grand Victorian is beautiful. If it would have been warmer the balconies would have been very enjoyable. Our room was very nice and warm. We highly recommend it for anyone looking for a bed and breakfast. It is very conviently located to the St Charles street car line. Or host, Bonnie was very helpful even before we arrived. She provided restaurant recommendations for the type of food we were looking for. Tours, restaurants, bars, and shops are all conviently located within walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Musty, Dusty and Overpriced! Our group booked the entire Grand Victorian B & B 14 years ago and again this past weekend. Time has not served this old inn well.....well, because the innkeeper has not continued to maintain the old property properly and to keep it in the pristine shape that it once was. It desperately needs tender loving care. The exterior needs some paint. The overgrown landscaping needs attention and less weeds. Inside, each and every room was dirty and dusty. The soft goods (bedspreads, etc) were musty and worn and had not been washed for many months or years. The mattress we had was honestly the very worst mattress that we have ever slept on....lumpy and old! The pillows, old and disgusting. the shutters had thick visible dust. Three light fixtures with some ripped lamp shades had minimum wattage making the rooms dark and seemingly even more dinghy. Two rooms had previous occupants belongings left behind. Breakfast? Ha! They offered awful microwave waffle and seemingly a 1/3rd size portion scrambled eggs and sausage almost like they split contents among a few people. They also had hard boiled eggs, muffins and fruit cup, cereal and toast! We did not expect a TV in the room, but there was one.. a tiny 15 inch with about six channels. Such a disappointment overall!

We let Bonnie know we were going to be late and it was no problem. The house is spotless, squeaky clean and comfortable. The only minus would be the minimalist breakfast but, if you know New Orleans, you know where to eat. This breakfast can be called either continental or a snack. Everything else about the house and Bonnie is just about perfection. The door to the breakfast room is 10 ft tall, 4 ft wide and 3 inches thick. You can't even hear the grandfather clock on the first floor from the second floor. The shower was very nice. Right across from a streecar stop on St. Charles makes it very special. Bonnie herself renovated this grand old home and we look forward to staying with her again.

Highly recommend the Grand Victorian B&B. We stayed in The Nottoway Suite (a.k.a. the honeymoon suite). The private balcony is the perfect place for morning coffee or a nightcap. It was my 1st trip to GVBB but will not be my last. Extremely enjoyable weekend.

Beautiful restored historic home. Too bad the antique furniture was not restored! The bed was beautiful; the mattress as old as the house! Breakfast?! What a hoot! Instant grits you make yourself from a water cooler and a croissant or something like it from Costco at best! I have always chosen B&Bs for the sole purpose of the exquisite beds and breakfasts. Not so here!! Bonnie, please take the money you save by having old mattresses and instant grits and go to Costco for new mattresses and down the street to Fresh Market, buy breakfasts, plate them and say you made them. Only a star for the beautiful home that was luckily built during a time when beauty was classic! Operative words in a B&B are bed and breakfast. Disappointment is GRAND at this VICTORIAN!

Wrapped in comfort and Southern hospitality - Bonnie and her team gave us the perfect New Orleans experience. We traveled with friends during Jazz Fest and sat on her veranda during rain storms, enjoyed the lovely extended breakfasts and all the thoughtful snacks she leaves about, read in the parlor, walked to fabulous restaurants while enjoying all the architecture of the Garden District - I cannot say enough. The room was lovely and spacious, the bed was comfortable. It was historic, elegant perfection.
