The NoLa Jazz House was great. I am an avid traveler and like to stay in hostels, vacation homes and boutique hotels around the world. Service: I had a late check in (after the office closed) and got in no problem. I got an email the day of check-in asking about my arrival.

Inexpensive hostel in a great spot. Located in Mid-City, it's in walking distance of a lot of good restaurants and bars. The street car stops across the street and takes you to the French Quarter in about 20 minutes. The staff are really nice and know a lot about the area. As soon as you check-in they'll give you great advise for sight-seeing, museums, night-life, live jazz, food, etc. There's lists of things to do at the front desk and even written all over the walls of the hostel! A great asset if you've never been to New Orleans. There's a clean kitchen if you want to prepare your meals and they have complimentary breakfast daily (pancakes, toast, bagels). We stayed in one of the double private rooms: the one across from the kitchen and between two bathrooms. Here are a few reasons why I can't give this place five stars: 1) The bathrooms were kinda moldy. Definitely wear shower shoes. 2) The room smelled weird. Kind of like a nursing home. 3) The noise level was pretty high during the morning and late at night when people would come home. 4) The bed was comfortable, but the sheets and mattress pad were so old and kind of rough. 5) There was a random hole in the wall of our room. All in all, you get what you pay for. It's pretty much an old house that was transformed into a hostel. It's definitely a great place for college kids. We stayed there for 5 nights and still had a pretty good time.

Great hostel in a perfect location! The street car stops right outside and you can get to the FQ in under 20 minutes. The wonderful staff (Andrew and Jay in particular) are super cool and helpful with tons of great advice to give! And the free DIY breakfast in the morning (pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, coffee) was a nice touch!!

I just have to say WOW! I absolutely loved staying at NOLA Jazz house with my best friend for my birthday weekend. The price couldn't be beat and the location was key. The house was right off the trolley so it was an easy trek back and forth between the French quarter/bourbon street. Nadia had plenty of great recommendations for us and Silas was there at the front desk with all our questions. I will absolutely be recommending NOLA Jazz house so any and all friends heading to New Orleans.

The hostel is conveniently located a few minutes from the French Quarter- clean, great service, and a helpful staff. I stayed 4 nights in one of their double private rooms, which was located behind the kitchen. The location of this room is horrible considering you can hear people talking whenever they are using the kitchen, especially in the morning when people are sitting down to eat their complimentary pancake breakfast. In this room, you can also hear the creaking of the wood floor panels whenever someone walks past the room at all hours of the day. I would consider staying here again; however, I would request not to have a room located near the common areas.

Only a few stops away from the French quarters the the NOLA jazz house is a great inexpensive and exciting place to stay when visiting. They are very helpful of events and places to go and more than will to help in any way they can.

I love this place. I've been here for 5 days already and I have had the best hospitality. Andrew, Jay, and Vanessa are the best. Someone is always at the desk and can answer any questions you have. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. From my experience the kitchen was clean, the breakfast was delicious and on my first day Vanessa had mimosas for us at breakfast. Best hostel experience you could ask for.

If you're black, don't stay here. The desk clerks prior to Josh were amazing. But when Josh was working-- he asked for my I.D and name and looked furiously through the computer to see how I was staying there. He didn't question anyone else in the house. It made me really uncomfortable. :(

The Jazz House is neat, clean and overall very nice. They have a kitchen and a backyard patio. I really liked my stay: the staff was nice and helpful and the atmosphere is youthful and upbeat. There's no sign out front to indicate that the house in Canal street is indeed a hostel, but look for the white house with three doors and a black metal fence. I basically have nothing bad to say about this place, other than they don't have laundry, but what can you expect - there's a laundromat around the corner. Also it's a bit pricey.
