My husband and I were so excited for our New Orleans getaway, and upon arriving at The Pelham Hotel, we were not disappointed! It was fairly early in the morning so we knew we wouldn't be able to check in, but the desk clerk held our luggage and advised that she'd text us when our room was ready. When we did receive the text (exactly 2PM), we weren't quite ready to depart Bourbon Street, so we returned about 4PM. When we arrived at our room, we found it open and being painted! We returned to the front desk where the young lady quickly remedied our problem and told us to choose a bottle of wine for our trouble! That evening we couldn't get our shower water to get hot. We ran it for about 10 minutes and finally took cold showers. As we were leaving the hotel for dinner, we stopped by the front desk to inform them, and to let them know that we'd need maintenance in the AM (additionally to replace our in-room coffee maker, which was broken); the evening desk clerk abruptly dismissed us by saying that we needed to run the SINK hot water AND the SHOWER hot water at the same time for about 10minutes and our hot water issue would be resolved. Maintenance did come in the AM to bring a new Keurig once my husband physically brought down the non-functioning coffee maker. The sweet gentleman also checked out the hot water situation and told us that when many hotel guests are showering at the same time, that the hot water is in short supply, no solution for that. However, we continued to have hot water issues and indeed had to run the sink water and tub water simultaneously for 10 minutes or more each time we showered! On our last day, we spoke briefly to the daytime front desk clerk and verified that our room would be cleaned. (We did verify that each day because we had needed extra towels the day prior and the desk clerk reminded us that our housekeepers would be bringing them when they did their daily room "update" ). However, upon our return, we discovered that our room HAD NOT been serviced. Since there aren't any in-room phones, I went back down to the front desk, where I encountered the dismissive young man desk clerk. He told me that he'd bring it to the attention of housekeeping the next day (we'd be checked out by then) and in the meantime he'd give us towels, but housekeeping was gone for the day and there was nothing he could do about it. No apologies, nor any attempt to rectify. The location is perfect, close to the French quarter but much quieter since it's in the central business district. As noted by other travelers, there indeed is a musty/damp smell to the building. There was lots of moldy black residue under the rim of the bathroom sink. The bedroom rug was gross. However, the bed was very comfy and they have excellent complimentary coffee in the lobby all day. The daytime young lady desk clerk was always polite and helpful. Which is why I am having trouble with this review. There were good points and not-so-good points. I guess it warrants 3 stars but I don't think I'd recommend. I would stay at the Sheraton or Marriott instead; even though I do love boutique hotels, sometimes they are just not worth the aggravation!

We arrived after 2 pm on a Friday for a 2-night stay. The first words that the clerk said to me were, "So you want to pay for early check-in?" Huh? Pay extra? I didn't recall saying anything like that at ALL! Here, this was a largely empty hotel at the time, mid-afternoon, and she was unwilling to let two road-weary seniors have access to their room that was definitely ready and waiting and ALREADY PAID FOR! Apparently her earning a little extra folding money was more important than our comfort. The day earlier in Baton Rouge, our luxury hotel there let us check in 3 hours early with no problem and no additional fee. Now, I'm not a cheapskate so it wasn't about the $40 bribe she requested; that was chump change. It was the principle of the thing, about being treated less like valued guests and more like being told we weren't welcome and please go away. Did I mention that my girlfriend is handicapped, was in real pain, and wanted to lie down? I asked her if we could leave our bags there until 4 pm. She said yes, but that we had to lug them in because they don't offer valet service if they don't park your car. She also said she couldn't park my car since I had already paid for the first few hours on a street lot. Hmm, this was starting to feel like more of a bad Motel 6 experience than checking into a supposed luxury property. So we ended up cooling our heels at a bar down the street for 2 hours until they would release the room. Guess what? It didn't cool ME down; rather, it put a huge damper on our fun weekend in New Orleans. The Pelham hotel is off the beaten path, and the front entrance is next to the dumpsters of the Ruby Slipper restaurant next door. And while that is a great brunch restaurant, the hotel street front is, shall we say, "wet and fragrant." Our room and the amenities were nice enough, but just bear in mind that this is 100+ year old building, so rooms are small. I had to wait an hour for ice because that same desk clerk hadn't bothered to fill the bin, which also chapped me. So all told, I would say this is more like a youth hostel in terms of service and front desk concern for the guests' comfort. Don't get me wrong; we travel a LOT and normally stay at AirBNBs or VRBO, so we're used to hauling our own bags and roughing it a little. But we're seniors, and we thought we paid their higher room price to enjoy a little luxury, pampering and friendly courteous service. If you're looking for the same, I might suggest the DoubleTree, Marriott, Westin, Caesar's or any of the dozens of other nice properties in the very same area.

Best hotel for the money, hands down. Within walking distance of the French quarter, and tucked away on a side street- the location couldn't have been better. The inside is quant and cute and cozy. The rooms were very clean, and exceeded my expectations. Upgraded lighting, and accents gave it a luxurious feel. They even had a vintage radio playing softly which was a nice touch.

I stayed here for the last night of my trip to New Orleans, and after staying 6 days at the Hilton Riversde, I quickly realized that I instantly loved the vintage boutique hotels so much more It's completely different from your standard nationwide hotels. My favorite parts of the Prlham Hotel were the unique vintage decor infused with french and New Orleans styles, the hospitality, the rooms looked AMAZING, and the locations were one block behind Canal St. I now want to try other small classic hotels in New Orleans going forward. It's such a treat to see something so different from your standard hotels. Loved it!! Food: The Pelham Hotel has a Ruby Slippers restaurant connected to it that is amazing. A few notes to consider, they are packed from the time the doors open until ot closes, so if you can make a reservation, do it. They also close at 2 pm and stop taking names around 1:45 pm. The entry is on the corner, so the waiting space is tight with all the foot traffic. However, I saw everyone waiting on the other 3 corners plus along the hotel. They do a great job yelling your name out so you can hear from across the street. FYI, the streets are close to each other. Atmosphere: I felt really safe in the hotel and in the surrounding area. The hotel makes you feel like you're in the 50s or 60s, but at the same time, it's modern. What a great vibe. Everyone is nice and polite. It is a big tourist area. However, it's off the main street and 5 minutes of walking from the french quarter. Service: The staff was so nice and polite and did a great job accommodating me before I was able to check into my room. I arrived just after 11 a.m. My check-in time was at 3 pm. I was able to check my luggage in and store them until I arrived back at the hotel later that night. NOTE: Check-in is usually at 3pm it's a late check-in, but you can request an early check-in, and if your room is ready, you can check in. Price: The prices are great, I got a studio king for 1 night at $178 after taxes. The room has high ceilings and dark wooden floors, and with so much space, they could fit another couch in the room if they wanted to. The bathrooms are massive also with high ceilings. There's a dest, 2 padded chairs, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a kurig, and the best part is that all the furniture looks vintage. Location: It's located in downtown New Orleans, at 444 Common St. It's right behind Canal St. and 5 minutes walking distance from the french quarters. AMAZING!!

Looking for a nice weekend stay but didn't want all the noise of Bourbon area. This really fit the bill. The only downside is they close at midnight and our flight was delayed. So we barely made it in before hitting a big dilemma. The girl at the counter didn't seem too excited to be waiting for us. All that changed when we saw our 4th floor room. Very nice room and classic style but updated. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very nice. Huge TV plenty of space. We loved the inside of the hotel. The best part is it's connected to the Ruby Slipper cafe next door and their food is amazing. Hotel guests can also reserve a table 30 mins earlier than when it opens to the public. One block off of Canal too!

Great hotel in the heart of downtown NOLA, just a couple blocks from the Quarter. Cool, moody jazz vibes and anti-hotel art galore. Loved it.

I really like the location, with a short walk to the French quarter. The beds were comfortable. The inner (no windows) room was well insulated from outside sounds. We were able to turn on the AC fan for some white noise at night. The room was extremely clean. The only two issues were that the radio made a humming sound even when turned off, and the WiFi did not work for the first night even after they tried to fix it.
