Perks is a good place to visit when you want some good home cooking. In addition to being open during the week (closed on Mondays), they are open on Sundays which is a plus when you don't feel like cooking after church. You can sit down and eat in or take food to go. Staff members are always nice and welcoming. 1st time I went to Perks was in January and I visited again recently. The gumbo there is really good. It taste like it came from a family member's house. It was filled with ingredients and had a lot of flavor. The pork steak meal I had came with a drink and was under $18. They give a lot of food so you can eat off the same plate for lunch and dinner or split a plate with someone. For me the greens were a little salty, and my mom felt like her bbq smoked chicken breast was a little dry. However we enjoyed everything else. My pork steak was very tender and the green beans had a good flavor. We've had fried chicken from them in the past and it was okay. They dropped it fresh (which was nice) just felt like it needed a little more seasoning. The fried fish is pretty good from there too. I'd say give it a try if you are in the parish. It's located right by Pj's coffee and Gerald's donuts.
