I have never seen an Ecuadorian restaurant outside of Ecuador so I was ELATED when somone told me about this place. It's closer to Greektown on Eastern Avenue, and this side of Baltimore is very Hispanic and you feel like you've been transported. I went on a random Sunday as an adventure to fulfill a craving, I lived in Ecuador as a child and haven't had these flavors in a while. It's definitely a hole in the wall, but the place is SO CLEAN and fresh, and the bathrooms were clean. The tables are lined in plastic and when I walked in there was a huge family dining with a giant Inca Kola bottle, which reminded me of Ecuador (though Inca Kola is from Peru but they share a border and similar cultures and the land borders have been disputed for a while - I digress). Here I was able to see things I haven't seen outside of Ecuador like the Manicho (a lovely milk chocolate peanut bar) and Galak (the best sugary white chocolate bar you'll ever eat) and mini tangos which are like a hard sandwich cookie. I wasn't sure what I would find as they advertise themselves as a bakery as well - so I started with two made to order empanadas. The Empanadas in Ecuador are different than the more well known meat filled Argentian ones we see in the US. These cheese fried empanadas are coated with sugar, and the ones here were 6/10 - the dough was dense and there wasn't enough cheese but it was still lovely and reminiscent of home. Then as I looked through the menu (there's A LOT of menu items), I ordered the chicken a la plancha - a thin chicken breast cooked on the grill and as per tradition comes with rice and menestra and aji. This is why they don't get 5 stars - menestra is made with lentils, not a red bean that you see in Mexican restaurants, I even asked the kitchen if they had the lentil version in case they only serve that to true Ecuadorians. The Aji was also such a let down, it's made only in Ecuador (some peruvian places will have them but it's not the same) -- it's made with a tree tomato translated in English, but it's the best salsa you'll eat. This one was made with Tabasco and had some onions and cilantro, fine but it's not real aji. Anyway, I loved the experience bc it felt like childhood home, and the staff were incredibly friendly and the establishment is really clean. I want them to be super successful, so please go try Ecuadorian food - it's vastly different yet familiar if you like Latin food.

I'll preface this with that I know it was a busy day, and I'll check back to give them another shot. But look at that omelette. That was after 40 minutes. No it was not worth the wait. At least what other people had looked decent. They even let the kids pick the channel, so I guess it wasn't all bad. I'll give it another shot. But honestly, my morning there wasn't great.
