This place is EXACTLY like in France (and I know what I am talking about: I am French). Everything there looks exactly like in a French bakery and TASTES wonderful, like in France. When I eat one of their pastries or danishes, it is like I am back in France. I do not understand how they are raked # 9 in Baltimore. This is hands down #1! Marie

I love baked goods and this place is so cute! I do not claim to be a connoisseur of pastries, but in my humble opinion everything tastes good! I've gotten pain au chocolat, regular croissant, apple turnover, fruit tart, and more. Their croissants are my favorite--flaky but not too oily. The fruit tart could be a smidge sweeter. I've gone twice and the workers here were nice both times! Metered street parking in the area.

I stopped in yesterday to grab a quick bite, but the experience was so unpleasant I left wondering what happened to the reliability and quality this bakery used to represent. When I arrived, there was one other in-person customer, and the woman working was on the phone assisting someone with an order. I waited about ten minutes while she finished helping the phone customer and then the person ahead of me. Throughout that time, she complained loudly about being short-staffed and working alone--not in an apologetic way, but as though she were irritated that customers were there at all. It was an uncomfortable tone that lingered through the rest of my visit. When she finally looked up and asked how she could help me, I stepped forward to order. But before I could even finish, she said, "You'll have to wait, I need to do this online order first," and proceeded to fulfill multiple online orders. It was confusing--why ask me to step up only to dismiss my order entirely? Once she was ready again, I repeated my order and asked if they were serving coffee. She said yes, though there was no visible menu or indication of what they offered. When I asked what kind, she replied, "We just have simple coffee here." I wasn't sure what that meant, especially given the espresso machine behind her. I asked if I could get a latte; she said nothing, began making it, and then started complaining out loud that she was "too nice" and shouldn't have agreed to make coffee because others were waiting. It might have been laughable if it hadn't been so uncomfortable. She had been short and unwelcoming from the start, and to hear her describe herself as "too nice" while actively complaining about customers was surreal. Even the young girl helping ring up orders--who couldn't have been more than 12--apologized for her behavior, which says a lot about how awkward the atmosphere had become. When I finally got my latte, I asked about my food since it hadn't appeared. She checked and realized she had completely forgotten it--it had been sitting there the whole time. Still no apology, no acknowledgment. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. The cookie was stale, and the royale pastry, which looked beautiful, tasted strongly of the refrigerator it came from. For a bakery known for its exceptional French pastries, that was a real disappointment. I've gone to Patisserie Poupon for years (and originally to the cafe before it closed), but this visit was so off-putting that I doubt I'll return. Everyone has off days, but there's no excuse for open hostility toward customers--or walk away regretting they stopped in at all. The service has never been the friendliest, but I've returned in the past because of the quality of their baked goods, however, this visit was so off-putting I doubt I'll return.

To start...the tart was great - and there were several other options that caught my eye that I'd certainly try again if I find myself back at Patisserie Poupon. The space itself is very tiny. There are two tables and while I sat for a while to work and another person was sitting there on a work call, it didn't feel like the space was actually meant for people to sit and enjoy. It is definitely more of a grab-and-go place, and I think maybe why people feel put off by the "welcome" they received. I went in wanting a tart and a space to sit during a rainstorm, and that's what I got.

Yes yes yes... i know you're all French and FABULEUX!!! But do you really have to have the condescending tone ALL THE TIME?!?!? I mean, yes, I enjoy a good pastry as much as the next guy but c'mon... Staff was incredibly friendly. Spoke w/ one of the pastry chefs and asked a specific question. When I came in, she recognized my voice and ensured my experience was pleasurable. I even got a free madeleine & cookie. Heating (grill) was the trick! These were absolutely delicious, especially once warmed up a bit. The butter permeated all the layers. The pastries were soft and flavorful. The sweet aspect (fruits, jams, chocolate) backed ohhh so gooey. What I remember is that my eyes rolled to the back once I took my 1st bite into each confection / pastry. TRIPLE WORD SCORE!!!!

Today April 18th at 7:01 pm, I happened to be in my car watching this franchise work and prep their desserts, they are not clean or sanitary. I've witnessed bakers taking food/ with their bare hands no gloves from one location next door which seems to be an apartment, that have a built in kitchen. To the restaurant Approximately around 7:08pm this baker took the desserts he cut up and walked next door and put them in a fridge. No gloves, in sight. I have never in my life seen such cooking behaviors, high levels of un sanitation, in my life. Please be aware and take major precautions before deciding to order or support this establishment.

I've given Patisserie Poupon two chances, and both times were unpleasant because of the same employee. On my first visit, I came in with my dog, who is extremely well-behaved -- friendly, never aggressive, and certainly not all over the food. He simply sniffed at something wrapped in plastic, and the woman working there immediately snapped at me about dogs not being allowed. It was such a strange and hostile overreaction to something so minor that it left me uncomfortable. When I gave the place another chance, I saw flies crawling all over the pastries in the display. I pointed this out and said, "You have flies all over your pastries." Instead of addressing it, the same woman just looked at me smugly. That was enough -- I walked out. Between the rude customer service and the unsanitary conditions, I can't recommend this place. If you want truly excellent pastries in Baltimore, try Roggenart instead -- far better quality, great service, and a much more welcoming experience.

As a long-time customer of this patisserie, I have experienced a range of highs and lows that make it a bit of a mixed bag. The cakes are consistently amazing! I love Royale, Cassis Mousse, and Opera. When it comes to pastries, it's hit or miss. When fresh out of the oven the spinach ricotta croissant, ham cheese croissant, and pain au chocolat are wonderfully delicious. However, there have been times when they were stale or old (right when they open in the morning!), which is disappointing. Given the steep prices, I expect a higher standard of freshness and quality. The customer service needs improvement. Many times I've encountered unfriendly or even rude staff. Smh. Another aspect to keep in mind is the location. The area around the patisserie doesn't feel very safe, so it's wise to be mindful when visiting. If you're willing to navigate these inconsistencies and embrace a bit of unpredictability, check it out!

Over the last fifteen years, I have bought pastries from Patisserie Poupon every few weeks. The red and the black is a particular favorite of mine. I also enjoy their brioche and the lemon tart. I went in this afternoon for the first time since March. The pastry cases were dirty, two of the employees were arguing, and the customer in front of me kept getting cut off by the employee behind the desk because if the phone rang, the employee would immediately cut the customer off and turn away from us to take a call in the corner. It was odd but life is difficult sometimes. However, it got worse (for me). I asked if coffees could still be made and was told by the employee that even asking "raised her blood pressure." Then, I offered to wait until she served the other customers behind me. I had ten minutes, I can wait for her to clear out the line. Instead, she yelled at me that if "you don't care about other people at all, then neither do I. I'll hold up everyone here and just make you a latte. you don't care about other people." It was quite cruel, I thought--and abusive, over a coffee order. I immediately told her I had no interest in any coffee she might make and to please just let me buy my pastries. The employee continued slamming things around by the coffee machine and exclaiming how she would hold up the whole line because of me. I wish I had just left and not even bought the pastries. Instead, I just insisted again and again that she please stop and just let me buy my brioche and leave. Eventually, she stopped and relented. I will never come back to Patisserie Poupon or buy another of their products. I honestly just can't believe this happened--over an order for a latte.

I consider this a "hidden gem" if that's a thing. They have a good variety of patisseries and a decent cup of coffee. They do great cakes as well
