Great pizza. We got thin crust (still 1/2-3/4" thick. Rectangular, apparently was Detroit is famous for. The pizza is put together different from what I am use to - crust, then cheese, pepperoni. I am told they use white Wisconsin Cheddar for the cheese which gives it a different, but very good, taste from the usually mozzarella cheese. The 'pep' was the small, 1" size that cups when broiled. Excellent taste with no 'after effects.' We also split an 'Antipasto Salad' with lettuce, Wisconsin cheddar (cubed), 2 or 3 kinds of Italian deli meet sliced into little pieces and 'oil and vinegar' dressing. There might have been a few pieces of tomato - I am not sure. Unlike the antipasto salad I make, there were no olives and no Pepperoncini (I am going to sneak some in next time). Most importantly, they had Vernors ginger ale. I had this meal on two consecutive nights. The Service was excellent both times - friendly and efficient. It is within walking distance to the Dearborn Hampton Inn. Buddy's pizza has replaced my lifetime favorite from Rubino's in Bexley, Ohio (since 1964). I can't until next year's Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth. I will eat a Buddy's pizza before and after the Oktoberfest!!

A local friend & I stopped in at 2:30 on a Sunday. We were seated right away and our server was attentive. I enjoyed a berry cider from Blake's (local to Michigan) as we ordered Buddy Bread, the Antipasto Salad, and a pepperoni 8 corner pizza. The food was delicious, I enjoyed getting authentic Detroit pizza! My leftover slices ever tasted great from the toaster oven the next day. The restaurant itself is a bit tired looking, but nothing crazy.

We wanted to try Detroit-style pizza, and Buddy's was the place that kept popping up. A classic old school pizza diner that has stood the test of time. I had to do some research about what defines a Detroit-style pizza: rectangular in shape; a chewy and airy crust; and caramelized cheese (ideally Wisconsin brick cheese) along the crust edges. Buddy's checked all those boxes. Wasn't too crazy about the appetizers, but the pizzas were amazing! The antipasto salad was the very definition of pizza salad with a random assortment of toppings, but I did appreciate the freshness of the vegetables. The minestrone soup had a thicker consistency than I was used to and reminded me of a chowder rather than a more classic tomato-based soup. For the pizzas, we had the Detroit Public TV (pepperoni and cheese) and the Super 6 Mile (ham, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, green peppers). I'm normally biased towards more toppings, but in this case, I actually liked the classic pepperoni and cheese one more. For dessert, we couldn't pass up on their cream puff sundae. Definitely a keeper! Overall, a great way to start our trip. Definitely recommend if you're looking for classic Detroit-style pizza. And where better to get it than from where it all started?

Pizza was delicious. It's a cross between a New York Sicilian and a Chicago deep dish. We ordered the Detroit, which had pepperoni and chunks of stewed tomatoes, topped with "Italian " spices. The crust is like an oily Chicago with crunch. The cheese was a good mozzarella; stringy. Definitely a must try.

First time trying Detroit Style Pizza! This was my first stop after landing and I was seriously craving pizza! I ended up at this spot and ordered The Detroiter. It definitely hit the spot and met all my expectations. The pizza came out super fresh like, the box was burning hot. The cheese was perfectly chewy and the spices were on point. I ordered a side of ranch to dip it in and wow... sooo bomb. It took about 15 minutes to make. It was worth the wait. The staff were really friendly and the place has both dine-in and a separate side for takeout or pickup orders. I just wish we had this spot back home in California. So glad I got to try it.

How do you visit Detroit and not try Buddy's for Detroit-style pizza? It definitely didn't disappoint! Our server was fantastic, super helpful with recommendations and made the whole experience even better. The food was great, and the pizza was absolutely worth the hype. We also tried the cream puff sundae (pretty sure it's a Michigan thing), and it was the perfect sweet ending. The place has that classic, old-school pizza shop vibe, which really adds to the overall ambiance. Definitely recommend

I like Detroit Style Pizza. Like, a lot. Since I am vacationing in the city, I really wanted to try some real detroit style to have as a reference. Our wait staff was very knowledgeable and she recommended some items immediately. Bread was absolutely amazing. I would totally eat it every time if I lived near. Pizza was good. I am so used to crunchy edges, but this one was what you want from well done pan pizza. Very easy to eat, nothing that will break your jaw, gums, or crowns while you chew it down. Greasy and yet well done pizza. Cheers to one of the OGs.

I loved the atmosphere of this place and all the pictures. It has such a nostalgic feel of a pizzeria. There is also lots of space to spread out and relax so you aren't right on top of everyone else. We ordered the eight square pizza with half pepperoni and half veggie. It was just enough for both of us which makes it a great value. The pizza was amazing and the edges had that magical flavor. Our server was really friendly and patient with us as we wanted to order the right thing. We ended with a Vernor's float which was really good. For the price, this is a lot of food. I hope to return with my wife.
