This is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. The facility is immaculate. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The room is spacious, well laid out, and the bed is very comfortable. This is the last hotel we are staying in on a three week road trip to the Midwest and is providing a wonderful denouement. The food service has been especially gratifying. The "Four Vagabonds" bar is beautiful and the roast beef sandwich and Lemon Meringue Martini noteworthy. But Clara's is the highlight of the show! Natalie, our server, sommelier, and gustatorial guide was exceptional in her advice concerning food and wine choices. She was attentive without being intrusive and a great conversationalist to boot. "The Carrots" and squid ink pasta with shrimp are delicious and highly recommended. The Bordeaux Blanc was an excellent accompaniment. We couldn't be more pleased and consider our stay a great value for the money.

We had been to Clara's in August and it was fabulous. We just went again last weekend and maybe not so much. The delicious bread basket was replaced by lackluster rolls. My mashed potatoes were cold on the bottom. Like out of the fridge cold. The top had been fine. My petit filet was delicious. The trout was deemed fine by my husband and brother in law. Our friend thought the salmon was very tasty. The meal in all just did not live up to the previous dinner. Our service was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable and kind. We may return, before the remodel the restaurant and bar were frequented by us often and we loved the food. Hopefully our next visit it a little better.

Well, it's a beautiful room but it's just not running as it should. We were there on a Sat evening for dinner with a group of Six. The servers were really green. They were very well trained on being friendly, but were not efficient at serving. Service was slow to crawling. The prices for everything were so high, I expected stunning food and service. But it was haphazard. Drinks took a lifetime. And they kept messing up our drink orders. A martini with a lemon twist came out as martini with two olives. Martini with blue cheese stuffed olive came out with regular olives. Second round, after specifically requesting a lemon twist this time, it came out with olives. And they suddenly thought to tell us they had no blue cheese olives. Never had them. Martinis need to be ice cold and filled to brim when $20 each. Ok, enough about drinks. We ordered mushrooms and carrots to share and, I almost wanted to laugh when they were placed on the table. The carrots looked anemic. I mean, little shriveled carrots on a huge pile of yogurt. And the mushrooms looked mushy. Neither plate was hot, and they cost $19 each? They all tasted good but not memorable. Does Clara realize they are competing with some awesome nearby restaurants with shareables? Like ohh, say, Selden Standard? The main order of snapper was good but one guest did not care for the chervil, which has a licorice flavor, on her fish. Others ordered the short rib and, there, it all fell apart. It was a lump of unseasoned pot roast. Not a glistening piece of succulent, bone in short rib. Nope, a lump of albeit tender, but tasteless meat. It was so disappointing. My advice? Start with a less expensive menu until you get in the groove, and then raise prices. I think they are at least 6 months to a year away from figuring this expensive high end luxury dining experience out. Maybe send someone to Peninsula Grill in Charleston SC to check out how to do this right. Because that's what you should be at your price point. The high point of the evening was the adjacent Edison bar. We went there afterwards, had an excellent experience with our server, I think her name started with the letter "A," if that helps. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It's going to be a fantastic place. Just not there yet.

We had breakfast all three days of our stay. It was phenomenal each time. The service was top notch. They made sure we had coffee and kept our cup full throughout the meal. Alicia is particularly impressive and friendly. She was so sweet and friendly. I enjoyed the slow scramble, omelet, hash brown, and potatoes with duck fat. It was all terrific. My only criticism is that the bacon they use is premium but only one piece was edible since the other piece wasn't cooked for long enough. You have to let those beautiful strips cook just enough to be crispy otherwise it is a waste of good bacon.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Dearborn Inn with my boyfriend for 12 hours. We ended up eating/drinking at Carla's Table. We experienced phenomenal service from Khalima and Al. The ambiance was top notch with a hint of charm and history. Absolutely must stay. But, you have to ask for them by name! Their energy feels like a warm hug!

We recently celebrated a very special evening at Clara's -- my parents' 45th wedding anniversary and my birthday -- and I can't think of a better place to have marked the occasion. What made it even more meaningful was that we dined in the very same room where my parents had their wedding dinner decades ago. The memories flowed just as easily as the champagne (which, to our surprise and delight, was on the house)! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and taken care of. Our wonderful server, Khalima, was a true highlight of the evening. She shared fun facts about the dining area that tied perfectly into our family's story, and her warm smile and kind demeanor added so much joy to the night. It genuinely felt like she was celebrating with us. Every dish -- from the shareables to the entrées -- was fantastic. The kitchen knocked it out of the park, and to top it all off, Clara's surprised us with personalized birthday and anniversary cards and ice cream. It was thoughtful touches like these that made the night feel truly magical. Thank you to Khalima and the whole team at Clara's for making this milestone celebration so memorable. We left full, happy, and with our hearts warmed. We'll be back -- and next time, we're bringing more memories with us. -- Mark S.

Dominic's service was fabulous. The food was good. The payment of the bill is ridiculous . It reminds me of the 1970s when 6 women have to split one bill using cash. We all ate different meals with different components. Having a one bill per table policy will ensure that I do not return. Separate checks should be a norm in today's world.

My family had a wonderful Mother's Day experience there years ago before the remodel. The food was great, there were many choices, and the service was wonderful. I'd hoped that we would have the same experience this Mother's Day but was extremely disappointed. You're given a menu and allowed to pick one "main course". The selections were pretty lackluster at best - chicken club sandwich, hamburger, salad, etc. In addition to your one selection, you're allowed multiple trips to their omelette station, finger sandwich table, and dessert table. If you'd like bacon, sausage, or anything else NOT on the buffet tables, there's an upcharge. You're also given your choice of beverage which included juice, tea, coffee, or soft drink. If you'd like a mimosa, there's an upcharge. The service was pretty horrible. Our waitress was friendly, but she never offered refills for any of our included drinks (there was probably an upcharge for a refill). We were given our neighboring tables entrees by mistake and the gentleman who brought the food to us actually picked it back up from our table and served it to the correct table! Luckily our server stopped him and took the food away. I was very underwhelmed by the entire experience, especially for the price. For $90 per person, I'd expected a lot more. It's disappointing that they're comfortable charging $7 for a side of bacon and $16 for a glass of wine after charging $90 per person for a mediocre menu. Had the service been better, more choices for staple brunch fare been available, and more been included in the price, this would have been a completely different review. Multiple tables around us were complaining about the same issues I've listed, too. This brunch was far from inexpensive and it amazes me that they're comfortable charging these prices for the poor service they provided.
