El Paisa is located in the parking lot of Sam's Supermercado (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sams-supermercado-detroit). I got two tacos - al pastor and carne asada. I made the mistake of getting everything to go, meaning the tacos were wrapped in a foil packet, the grilled onions and half a grilled jalapeno were in another foil packet, and the sliced raw radishes and lime were in yet another foil packet. Cups of red and green salsas were also carefully tucked in the bag. I really liked the tacos. I thought the carne asada was a little tough, though, and liked the pastor better (the flavor was really good too). The cilantro was fresh and the flavor really shone. In the three trucks that we stopped at that day, El Paisa's cilantro packed the biggest punch, which is a very good thing in my book... I'm a cilantro fiend. I also liked that the raw onions were very finely chopped. I usually HATE raw onions, but these finely chopped onions added just the right amount of bite. As for the salsas, I thought I'd like the green better but ended up enjoying the spiciness of the red more. Well, it wasn't that spicy but it had a bit of heat to it (kinda like a mild-medium), which was much needed, since everything else was pretty mild, including the grilled jalapeno. When I bit into it, I thought it was a green pepper in the shape and size of a jalapeno. For $1.25 a taco, I got a decent amount of food and would be able to make a meal out of 3-4 tacos. Mmm... tacos... :)

Delicious feast, TONS of sauteed onions, generous with the radishes. Stopped here today to check out the pollo and cabeza tacos for the first time. Great great stuff. I think they might have the biggest menu selection of any of the trucks... anyone else agree? The cabeza is diced very finely, much more so than the norm, which was interesting. I think i prefer a slightly rougher cut (on the other end of the spectrum is El Pariente's cabeza, which has much more texture per bite), but El Paisa's style took nothing away from the flavors. A small but notable detail was that the limes served here, unlike most of the competition, were extremely fresh and juicy, barely had to apply any pressure to get quite a bit of that great lime juice onto the meats, and nothing goes better with cabeza than a little salsa and a lot of lime juice. so good. The pollo was standard, but, as you all know, standard in SW taco truck land is absolute tastiness. Other things I noticed: 1) catching a bad break i suppose, the strong wind today was carrying the truck exhaust (since the truck was running) up alongside the eating counter... so I smelled faintly like a lawnmower when I return home... too bad, didn't really notice while i was eating, thankfully. 2) two tacos and a coke was $3.75 ... a score of a deal by any measure... well, except by taco truck measure... EITHER their tacos are 25 cents more than the competition, or their cokes are a little pricier... a really puny value difference ultimately, and doesn't stop me from giving El Paisa my full-hearted approval. This truck sits in the parking lot of the plaza at Vernor Hwy and Lansing St. WEEKENDS only. CASH only.

I rarely give 5 stars. Usually, 4 stars is a "really good!" for me. But this taco truck deserves 5 stars. The hubby and I were in Wyandotte and passed the truck. We pulled a U turn and scrapped together all our cash and ordered 5 tacos: 2 chicken, the rest ground beef. They came wrapped in foil with grilled onions and a quartered and grilled jalepeno. Along-side was lime slices, radishes and hot and mild salsa. We dressed up our tacos (hot salsa and lime is best!) and devoured them. The tacos do NOT disappoint! They are well seasoned. The cilantro is perfect and sets everything off with the lime. The beef was our favorite. We returned a second time and got chorizo and al pastor. My favorite is the al pastor, now. The red (hot) salsa is the best. Not too spicy, but with enough heat to make you come back for more. The tortillas are toasted and crisp on the edges but perfect in the center. The tacos come hot off the grill and delicious with cilantro and diced raw onion. I wish I was in Wyandotte more frequently. I dream about these tacos. I crave them. They are THAT good! I wish they moved and came out by me. Alas, they will have to be something I get infrequently.

Among all tacos based vendors from who I have ate over the years, this place firmly sits on the highest platform. The meats are nicely seasoned and cooked juicy. The salsa is flavorful. Both corn and flour tortillas accompaniment the tacos and not over power them. Suoer well done El Piasa!!!

I was down at Eastern Market and tacos popped into my head. I figured I'd head down to Mexican town and try a place I had bookmarked. I never made it because I hit this taco truck instead. I've never been to a taco truck before and saw this one in a pharmacy/grocery store parking lot on Vernon by Junction street. I have the impression that most taco truck prices might be similar which is great because its cheap. 1.25 for tacos, 2 for a Ceviche tostada, and 5 for what I believe would be a pretty massive burrito. I also noticed that there was a decent group of people eating outside and with the wind and a bit of cold that speaks volumes. As always I ordered too much because I wanted to try a bit everything. Pork, Beef tongue,Chorizo tacos and after I realized they had it a really awesome Ceviche tostada. The tacos came pretty simple-meat,sauted onions, cilantro and hot or mild sauce. They were garnished with roasted jalapenos and sliced radishes. Just as I started to take the first bite, the ceviche tostada came up in the window and blew my whole plan. This was amazing-fresh, tangy, and the tostada shell was fresh and crisp and I ate this thing as fast as I could. Unfortunately I realized today that you need to have a game plan when eating varieties of tacos. Find the order that makes most sense. Going from the Ceviche and finishing with Chorizo wasn't the best choice but the food was really good.

Some classmates and I did a tour de mexicantown trucks. But we couldn't find any... but on our way to Lupitas we found Paisa. I can't remember where it was parked...on Vernor in a supermercado parking lot. The prices here rule. We all tried something different. I had the ceviche tostada and a pollo taco. The chevice was quite good, but I thought that the pollo was really dry. But still very tasty. The red hot sauce is great.... I also tried my classmates tripa (intestine) taco and it was really great. The prices are super cheap. And there was a liquor store across the street...which sells cheap crappy six packs. Which go well with the food. Being upstanding citizens we would never condone or participate open containers in public, that's just what I heard. Anyway, this is good food. Honestly the experience was maybe just as good as the food. I'll definitely return if I happen by again. Oh and be sure to throw a buck in the tip jar. The food is cheap and good. They deserve gratuity.
