Welcome to The Tail! The Roostertail that is....got its name from the curtain of water created by propellers of racing boats zooming up & down the Detroit River. The Native Detroiter Magazine & Associates celebrated with their annual beautiful White Party Sunday this week at the Tail. The fashions were fashioning! The awards were awarding! The steppers were stepping! The singers were singing! The champagne bottles were popping all on this waterfront oasis on the Detroit River! The Roostertail has been a downtown Detroit staple since 1958. This year they celebrate their 65th Anniversary. This is a perfect venue for a large party to spread out from the main floor's glass-enclosed room to the outdoor options for party goers on both sides of the Roostertail. The floating dock down the boardwalk was complete with seating, swings and their own DJ. While the other side was perfect for the live stage performance by the Mary Jane Girls. There is even a second floor option complete with an open air balcony. The waterfront views were spectacular with perfect weather to take it all in! This was also a perfect location to capture the view of the sunset over Detroit. Note: Parking was self parking for $20. There was no valet option and limited handicap parking spots.

Our daughter's wedding ceremony and reception we're both held at The Roostertail on October 18. We are absolutely thrilled with how everything turned out. From the start, Shawna Peplinski, the lady who keeps the event humming like a well-oiled machine, was so sweet and gracious; I could see my daughter let go of a lot of her wedding jitters once she got to know Shawna. When it comes to event planning, Shawna has every base covered; she also knows every vendor in town worth knowing. It's uncanny how she's able to make the wishes of her clients appear just as they envisioned it, maybe even better! First, their outdoor deck, with the water and Belle Island as the backdrop for the ceremony, was just lovely. After the ceremony, our guests entered the gorgeous, mid-century modern lobby and ballroom. This place is the epitome of '50s-'60s chic. There was a recent round of upgrades and renovations, and let me tell you the whole place was gleaming. The maintenance crew have every inch detailed. The 180 degree view of the river, the soaring ceiling, and the decorations and flowers combined for a gorgeous setting. The Schoenith family has built and maintained The Roostertail as a kind of oasis, a stunning building with a commanding river view, and a staff of real professionals committed to maintaining the original high standards. The Schoeniths, Tom, Ava and Michael, and Shawna, have somehow kept the training of the staff to the same standard as when the place was a high-end nightclub. It's that good. The waitstaff was superb. They were also friendly, and extremely fast. Each table was served within minutes of each other, which was amazing. Empty plates were gone in seconds. These were professional waiters and waitresses. There were five bartenders, and they were absolute pros; many of the guests were asking for unusual or complicated drinks, and we watched as they whipped those drinks up as fast as if they were just mixing a Manhattan. I saw a lineup of guests the width of the bar and almost ten deep go down to three people in about ten minutes! And the food was incredible; the hors-d'oeuvres were creative, festive looking, and delicious. As for the dinner itself, I was told by many guests that they thought it was one of the best meals they ever had anywhere. In particular, the steaks were tender enough to be cut with a stern glance, lol. The colors of the vegetables were eye-popping fresh; really excellent prep and cooking. The plating was picture perfect, and everyone's dishes arrived hot. These are high-end chefs with a well-trained, well-timed kitchen staff. Desserts were incredible, and we overheard guests remark that the layout of the dessert table was maybe the most beautiful they had seen. It should also be mentioned that the sound quality of the ballroom was excellent. The architecture of the room lets the dance floor volume really thump, but there was moderate volume in the rest of the venue so people could talk. It was great, as was the lighting! The big takeaway for us was this: everyone we met or saw, from planning to execution, seemed like they were all on board with the mission of 100% hospitality. You noticed it in every employee smiling, moving fast, asking if there's anything more they can do. It's obvious that to maintain the sparkling look of the place, the quality of the food and the quality of the service, the Schoenith family and Shawna have assembled a crew of dedicated employees who share their love of giving people wonderful memories for a lifetime.

I attended a wedding here and it was the best wedding I've ever attended! Everything was amazing--decor, setup, space, food, bar, service, everything. The views were incredible, the outdoor space was super nice, and the fountain was a fun touch. The food, drinks, and service were excellent. What a special venue!!!

The Roostertail is a FABULOUS establishment that's celebrating their 65th Anniversary. The staff is very accommodating and facility is well-kept. I was there for an event and there was a variety of entertainment both outside and indoors. To celebrate National Ice Cream Day, there was Strawberry Shortcake. Yummy!

I attended a wedding recently on March 8th, 2025 I could not believe how absolutely breathtaking it was! Of course I felt that way because Shawna always goes above and beyond! beyond. how she embodied the couples, personalities and flare into the whole celebration. This once again goes to prove Shawna without a doubt is absolutely amazing and if you're going to have a wedding or event here you must go with her. Along with my wedding we were fortunate to have Shawna as our wedding event coordinator at The Roostertail Detroit. She truly went above and beyond to bring our vision to life. Shawna was incredibly organized, always responsive, and proactively anticipated our needs. Her expertise made every decision feel easy, and on the day of, she ensured everything ran flawlessly. We were able to relax and fully enjoy our wedding knowing Shawna had every detail covered. Highly recommend!

Cool place to visit, being on the water is a bonus. The staff is all great, Shawna is our favorite though, every time we visit we make sure to say hello. Highly recommend attending one of thier special parties or having your event here. Very historic and classy place.

The view and ambiance is stellar. We had excellent food and service here. Besides the views that can't be beat, the people who work here are outstanding. There is plenty of help and everyone was so kind and caring and personable. Every detail added up to a perfect and memorable experience!

The Roostertail staff and leadership were very accommodating. The venue is breathtaking and perfect, with the best views. However, it's the sense of urgency that Nicole and the Schoenith family displayed that truly stood out. The Junior League of Detroit is a nonprofit, and they worked with us to bring our vision to life.
