The Eastern is a very nice venue, and it was suitable for our wedding reception. It is very a la carte, so you make it what it is. My family loved the venue and the space. Be warned, the event manager, Emily, is pretty bad at communicating and being welcoming to you. I think wedding venues/managers should make you feel like they actually want your money and care about your event. You will not get that here. It took days to get responses to simple questions, and then when we did get a response, it was a one-word (up to three or five) answer. We often felt like we were bothering them by asking them questions. I thought it was just me, but based on the reviews, this is an ongoing problem. If you don't care about this, then The Eastern is a cool space to have an event. The day-of-staff was excellent!

This is such a great venue; it could be set up for any kind of event. Tonight was a fundraiser with a bar set up in the back with a lovely greenery background. I love the brick and high lofty ceilings and the location in Eastern Market is super unique. Posh and industrial at the same time.

I was very excited to book this venue (because of the look) for my baby shower. Initially, I did feel as though Emily from The Eastern was one of the least excited booking managers I've met with... versus all of the other venues I had visited--she really wasn't enthused at all but I ignored that. After booking The Eastern, I found it EXTREMELY hard to get into contact with the booking manager Emily Kolon. I would email, call, and text and receive a response as soon as days later. It was extremely tacky to me especially after all of the money I was paying to book this venue. I didn't understand why I couldn't ever speak to someone the same day or had to wait to get an answer while planning my event. It's hard planning something when someone is unresponsive/doesn't get back with you for up to 3 days. Besides the unresponsiveness, I found myself entered into a contract where I, admittedly, did not read the fine print (literally one line) saying a beverage package was required. Upon, speaking with Emily and viewing the venue, I was not made aware that the beverage package was required. Which was SO expensive. After speaking with the owner, Scott Rutterbush, he told me he would be able to workout a package with me where I could bring my own drinks that were sealed. However, once the shower was close--that was immediately denied. No accommodations were made. As far as food, they don't have anywhere to store it AT ALL -- though they do have a bar but would not allow me to keep my food stored there. They don't make accommodations for anything at all. A money guzzler. Most venues I spoke with offered a discounted price for the fact that I was having a baby shower versus a wedding, but that did not seem to affect them at all. Don't come here, truly a waste of money before your event has even started.

Stopped over to check out the booths on Sunday now at Eastern Market and heard about the Hendrix Gin cocktail truck at The Eastern. On a warm day why not stop in for a Hendrix and Tonic? My first time in the hall and it is a really nice spot. We got there early and as we were leaving they were setting up for a DJ, cool spot! Any events there in the future I will have to peek my head in there.

Great place but if you're an Active Duty Service member you'll risk losing your money. If you're a Service Member with a high deployment/mission tempo like myself, STAY AWAY! When my wife and I received information that another undisclosed loacation was in our future, we were shocked to receive the most robotic copy and paste response you could ever expect. In the beginning of our journey with this company we asked if they would honor The Servicemembers Civil Relief act. Emily Kolon stated that she had never heard of it, but would do the research so that she could work with us should this exact moment occur. Rather than provide us with options or honor the Relief Act, she responded with an email so emotionless, you would have thought it was computer generated. So, Service Members like myself--Stay Away. It's not worth losing your money to someone who reassured you that they'd work with you should you have to leave the country due to unexpected deployment or mission.

DO NOT BOOK AN EVENT HERE!! Where do i even begin? There are so many better venues in Detroit for a wedding or concert. I wouldn't even go here if i was invited

We had a fabulous time last night celebrating our daughter and our son-in-law's wedding!!! so many compliments on the venue, the staff -the whole experience. Emily was great. She always responded quickly to our emails. Thank you for a fabulous night!!

Went to a couple events recently here. Pretty small area. Clean and thankfully they have bathrooms. The event space holds some fun events. The last two included a bar. The staff was decent. I'm not sure they worked for the event space or not. All in all decent space and there's parking right outside.

Nice to see a good crowd come and support local artisans. In the holiday market itself there were different artists selling handmade items - hand knit hats & scarves, jewelry, bath salts, print makers. They had a bar where you could grab a drink and walk around. Only thing was the venue was small and poorly lit. Also it was difficult to find. It was around the corner from RJ Hirt store through a blue unmarked door. They had a person in a Santa outfit in front of the parking lot holding a sign, but even she had to take breaks because it's cold outside so not everyone could find it. More artisans were showcasing their items in some of the sheds - baked goods, T-shirt's, hand spun yarn. Nice crowd but hard to move through and could hardly see the items for sale because crowds blocking tables and aisles.
