I don't want to say National ruined my vacation, but they kinda ruined my vacation. First, I booked a car for 5 PM. I was 15 minutes late, which is on me. But when I showed up, they were completely closed with no employee at the desk. They closed at 5, so I'm assuming I would have had to have been there right at 5 (or before) to even speak to an employee at all. I placed most of the blame on myself for being late, but it was frustrating that by missing the window by a few a minutes I was SOL. I was able to call my credit card company and canceled my car reservation for a refund. I still tried again because I NEEDED a car to get to my hotel reservation for the night (600 miles away) and booked a car for the next day. This time I got to the airport at noon. They were open, but did not have the car I reserved. In fact, the worker at the counter informed me that he was "negative six cars" when he arrived at work that morning, implying that they had no inventory at all when they opened at 11 AM. Which to me means that they didn't have any cars when I booked one! So they had nothing to offer me in terms of an upgrade or downgrade nor did they offer to help me find alternative transportation. All I could do was cancel my reservation again. And because I had no transportation, I had to cancel my hotel too--which meant canceling and rescheduling my entire planned vacation. This was beyond frustrating. I just don't understand how a car company can let you book a car when they don't have any cars to book. It's not a matter of miscommunication or mistakes, it's just bad practice. I will definitely never be using National again.

Adrian H and Evan A provided excellent customer service when assisting me. I had a roadside assistance issue come to this location and they were able to get me into another vehicle within 20 minutes! I travel a lot for work and this by far is one of the more professional National car rentals I've been to when it comes to customer experience and service. Kudos to the Lansing Capital region int'l airport location!!

Beware! Even with a confirmed reservation, they might not have a car for you. They waited to tell me until I arrived at the airport. My number and email is in the reservation and my Emerald club number...for a reason. They failed to contact me. They claimed they called my travel agent, which was not true. I called AMEX and they have no record of the location calling them about this reservation. I get it. Mistakes happen. But the agent at the counter did ZERO to try to make this right. Didn't offer to try to get a car from another rental place. Didn't offer a shuttle or Uber to DTW where they have cars. Didn't even offer up a date/time when they would have a car. Just "sorry". That's the response when your selling ice cream and the you are out of chocolate. I need this car for business travel. You would think that a little extra effort could be put forward to at least TRY to come up with a solution. And at the very least, don't lie about it.

This is an airport location operating like a branch location. Save yourself the headache (and possible extra spending on a rideshare or a taxi) and fly into DTW or GRR and drive! Beware if your flight is delayed (check their hours) or if you cannot make it at your EXACT to the minute pick up time (change your time if possible). I set my pick up time to be around my lunch break and arrived 30 minutes after and was told my reservation was given away. No call, no sympathy, no ride back to work except for waiting 30+ minutes for a ride share only to come back 4 hours later. Terrible customer service by the branch manager nonetheless. I understand it's a small airport and shortages, but several people had returned cars during even my 30 minute ride share wait and I was offered nothing. I will never fly into here again if I have rental car needs.

I think this may be a franchise and not owned by the company. You need to stop at the rental counter since there's no Emerald Aisle. Unfortunately they ran out of cars when I was there. Was left a choice finally of a Camaro convertible or Tahoe. I prefer the full size and intermediates. It was nice having a Tahoe, but was a bit overkill for where I was going. The people were friendly and helpful, though.

I was just on hold for TWO HOURS to National Car Rental toll free number, when the call hit the TWO Hour marked it disconnected me. Oh they are horrible i will not do business with them again.

Very nice staff. Attentive and friendly. Provided a nice vehicle and options. Easy process for car pick up. They did offer choice of cars. I do prefer Emerald Club sites that allow me to go pick out my own vehicle. Vehicle was new and clean.

Excellent customer service. We needed to change our rate plan, as we were going one way only, and the new rate was less expensive. The reps had it done in less than a minute, and gave us a choice of car! We also learned that Lansing is one of the locations testing a pre-pay fuel option for less than a full tank, they will do quarter tanks. What a great feature, it saved us needing to get fuel in Chicago before we turned the car in. National is the only brand we use, but Lansing shines especially bright!

This car rental company RUINED my vacation. We were going down Texas and they would give us the car. We need just a credit card and not a credit debt card. We offer money cash money, but no they said it would be to much of a hassle for them. So we were not able to get a car and they did the same thing to two other people.

This is National Car Rent at the Lansing airport, so what's to review? Let me be clear: I rent cars 6-8 times a year. I'm not a "pro" at this game. I like National because of Emerald Club, which saves beaucoups of time (though not at Lansing) & because my employer has a group rate. If you are a less frequent renter, you might want to price shop, but you probably knew that before you looked this up on Yelp! While I've never had a killer-bad experience with any of the Lansing rent car outfits, neither can I tell you that one is clearly better than the others. So here are three suggestions for novices: 1) If you think you might rent more than twice a year & your time at airports is valuable to you, pick a company, sign up for their frequent renter club and stick with them; 2) make a reservation, even if it just 15 minutes ahead. All the companies treat people with reservations more like actual human beings; 3) if getting to the rent car agency is a problem for you, Enterprise has the business model for you, but other companies will probably have nicer cars.
