I stayed at the Fairfield Inn Kansas City Downtown / Union Hill for an extended weekend, for both work and leisure. Three of us shared one queen/queen room, the weekend of the Kansas City Comic Con, and we were all pleased with the Fairfield Inn. The rooms were clean, spacious, and seemed to be very well maintained. All fixtures and features worked well, and the PTAC managed to keep the room comfortable during the hot weekend. There was plenty of parking, and we appreciated that they had a security guard in the parking lot at night. The hotel service was top-notch. Everyone was very helpful, and the common areas were kept spotless. The complementary breakfast was tasty, with a good variety of food, and nothing was ever empty. The lobby is also very spacious, with lots of seating, and comfortable places to work or relax. They had several TVs, which were showing the Summer Games. The free business area, with PC terminals, helped me very much. I very much enjoyed my stay at this Fairfield Inn location, and would definitely consider staying again if the need arose. 5 star property, with 5 star service.

tldr: Seinfeld's reservation skit was not sarcasm. It was explaining how this hotel treats reservations. I travel to KC for work. This trip was my second time I was to stay here, my first trip was pleasant enough - however this time my reservation was cancelled with no notice. Booked a 4 night stay a week in advance. The morning of check in (9am) I received an email from a Fairfield*@gmail.com saying there's "an issue with my payment reservation and I need to address it by 2pm." I thought Marriott brands wouldn't resort to a Gmail account since it seems like a scam? Anyway, I received a follow up at 10am from an actual @marriott domain email with a similar message. At this point I'm mid-flight without Internet, but by 1pm I was able to reply via email asking them: (1) Could the please clarify the issue? (2) To use the card on my Marriot profile or from my prior stay if payment is needed in advance. (3) I verified I would pay by card on arrival and call as soon as I landed. I finally landed around 4pm to find my reservation cancelled. There was no reply to my emails. No missed phone call. No attempted charge on my credit card. I called the front desk and they couldn't provide any information on why it was cancelled or if a payment authorization was even attempted. All I got was "it's like the booking was never made." Now it's 5pm, I have no hotel, I had to call Marriot Bonvy and had to pay full price for a hotel 20 min further away from my work. What's the point of a Gold Elite status for this sort of treatment? Funny enough, the Marriott I was able to find had no issues charging my card on file. I even emailed the GM of this location explaining the situation and received no reply (24 hours and counting). As of now, I have no intent at staying at this location or even a Marriott on my next trip. Because holding the reservation is the entire point of a reservation.

Bed Bugs!!! I got bites all over my legs and groin. Management won't do anything about it and lied to me after ignoring my calls. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Check-in was great! Checked in online from the e-mail that was sent. Party of 4 and we were able to check in early (probably not always the case depending on occupancy, but was nice to have this option when it is available). Front office staff was friendly and helpful. We had a suite. Even the pull-out couch was comfortable. The breakfast had a lot of selection. The selection for the Sunday morning we were there was waffles (blueberry or regular), sausage, biscuits (these were pretty hard) and gravy, fritada (which was really yummy), breakfast potatoes, and omelets, cereal, bagels, toast, english muffins, apples, yogurts, muffins, pastries, and some gluten-free options (like gluten-free blueberry muffins) which was a great option to have for our group! The reason that I put 4 stars overall is that the door lock of our room was not working properly. When we arrived, the door would not close (the dead bolt would not close). Saevion, at the front desk was great and called the maintenance man. He said that it was the batteries on the door that needed to be changed. The maintenance man was gone for his break. We had somewhere to be and could not wait, but Saevion used the camera to keep an eye on our room and we had locking suitcases and hid them away. When we came back to our room later on, the door was locked and closed and we thought it was fixed. Unfortunately, it was not. I'm sure the maintenance man thought it was fixed because it worked for him. We were able to pull up on the inside handle (all the way up and fiddle "a lot" - it took some time, but we were able to get the door locked and closed and luckily we were "tucking in for the night". Thankfully, we did not have to move rooms which was definitely a possibility if the door would not lock. In the morning, we went to breakfast and had to mess with the door again (the handle on the outside of the door was completely loose and "sagged" when we left, but the door was locked). We came back to pack up after breakfast and the door would not open with several keys, but luckily my key worked. When I checked out, I made sure to let the front desk person know that the door was still malfunctioning. Hopefully, the door has been looked at and fixed for the next occupants as it was a pain and did worry us that maybe the door was not locking properly. If the door had worked, the stay would have been 5 stars because the breakfast was yummy, the room was clean, and the most importantly, the front desk staff was helpful and friendly and the price was reasonable and the location was what we were looking fo. The location and price were the reason we chose this location. We attended the Brewfest at Union Station and once the streetcar extends the pick ups and drop off, this will be even better. I hope that Fairfield does not increase the price of their rooms because of the streetcar as this is why we chose this location for the price and also the breakfast that is offered. We will definitely stay again if Fairfield continues to offer reasonable prices at this location.

The facility is fine. They are in the middle of remodeling one part of the hotel. My problem is with management. Booked room through Priceline which charged my card at time of reservation. After we checked out of hotel, Fairfield Inn charged my card. Once we discovered this, call to get refund. Desk person immediately said he saw what the issue was and would get management to refund. Four follow up calls, each time response was manager needs to do this. He was either out sick, leaving to go to bank or system was down. I got the bank who issued the credit card involved and they too were given lines after told it would be done. A fraud claim has been filed. I believe this management team is double charging intentionally. Check you credit card statements after staying here!

Stayed here during a recent visit to the city. Where do I begin. On a bright note I thought the free breakfast buffet was very good. On a not so bright. note here if the following 1. My room had a large constant noise in the bathroom. When it did not go away I contacted the front desk who contacted the manager. He came up to my room and said they recently put in a new ventilation system and the motors which run the system made the sound. Nothing they could do. This did not make sense to me as my friends in other rooms did not have that same problem. 2. The toilet in my bathroom overflowed. When I called the front desk they brought me up a plunger. Maintenance apparently was not around and the manager is no where to be seen. It appears the hotel is understaffed and just not capable of dealing with issues when they arise. P.S. The plunger did not work. I suggest you seriously think about using the public bathroom downstairs.

The staff was kind and did the best they could BUT the rooms have thin walls. We attempted to contact the front desk via cell and landline and nothing. We were so frustrated by midnight that we went to the front desk. They did change our room for day 2, and even so, we could hear the people above walking or rolling luggage. Each morning, you hear guests going out for breakfast, and the doors slam shut, which are heard as well.

My wife and I spent two nights here. The staff was very friendly, ample parking and free parking. The lot was fenced in and had security cameras so felt very safe though there were two entrances to it that were open. The room was spacious and we really enjoyed the large jacuzzi tub in room. Everything was clean and the pricing was reasonable to us. We would recommend staying here again.

Stayed here last night. Pretty decent place. It is an older property but overall nice place. Beds were pretty comfortable and the staff were friendly. They served a nice breakfast- hot & cold cereals, bananas, yogurt and more

I'm a Marriott Titanium Elite member...I spend lots of time at Marriott properties. This really isn't up to the standards of a typical Marriott property. It was clean, bed was comfortable and the staff are great. Staff are excellent, in fact. That's where the good ends. Lots wear and tear. Our bathroom door would not stay shut- the door seemed too small for the frame. The plumbing fixtures in the shower were so loose you could pull them out of the wall if you weren't careful. Water pressure was random normal or a trickle. Toilet paper holder was falling out of the wall. The walls are paper thin. The couple next door was interesting. Either the gentleman was quite virile or there may have been some sex trafficking. Close to the WWI and Money museums. However it might be time to turn this property into a Super 8.
