Another one of those little KCK taco dives that I've driven past scores of times over the years, but have never ventured in. I love how they have off street parking - Central Ave is always a little dicey at night. To offset the safety of parking, they have provided a threshold at the side-door that makes tripping over it a sure bet. The ordering is a walk-up counter with a visible steam-table with all of the simmering meats to view before making a selection. I chose two pastor and two shredded beef. Pastor was chunked large and plenty of juicy pineapple, although the pork was a bit on the dry side but still flavorful. The beef was extremely tender and juicy. At $2 each, they were still a good bargain for the amount of meat packed into each tortilla. The provided red sauce is a thick tasty condiment with a kick. Would I return? - without hesitation.

If I could leave this restaurant a negative I would, we are repeat customers and usually order delivery $100 of food , this time we went to the restaurant and saw it was busy but they seated us so we said ok cool, then everything changed no one took our order for 30 minutes , and then someone finally said I will be right with you, well then we waited again and that worker never came back, then another worker came by took our order finally after waiting going on 40 minutes now. Then my husband asked has anyone put our order in and this guy said yes just a little bit longer wait , it's now going in 45 minutes and still no food, WE SAID SCREW THIS AND LEFT , THEYVE LOST OUR BUSINESS , THIS IS THE WORST HORRIBLE BUSINESS FOR NO SERVICE SERIOUSLY , EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. AND WE WENT AND SAT INSIDE THE RESTAURANT, THEY SEATED US , BUT NEVER GOT SERVED

This is definitely by far one of the best Mexican food joint. From the salsa with the chips to the guacamole , everything tasted exceptionally amazing. We had the Chipotle Chicken enchilada which came with the rice and beans tasted really good. The cheese was blended just apt with the chicken cooked to its perfection with the chipotle flavor right around its corner. The other item was the Monterrey Quesadilla which was amazing ( highly recommended ) which had the veggies and chicken blended just right with the cream cheese as the topping which was absolutely delicious. It came with guacamole which I highly recommend too , sour cream, beans and rice. Not too pricey either. The place ain't that great ( noticed house fly's around) , but the food is definitely worth it!!

More than two days after lunch here, I'm still trying to sort out the experience. For sure, I love a good dive Mexican joint, and for sheer shock value, a stroll into Frontera's scores high. Messy, thick plastic wrap protects red table tops even though much of it hasn't been wiped down properly, messy floors that haven't been swept, worn out linoleum, Univision blaring at a shockingly high volume, and a lot of homemade signage that screams "old school." Meat prep area in one corner, narrow stairs in the back lead to a mini grocer. Robert Irvine would have a cow just walking in the door. This is a long, long way from the experience of a Bonito Michoacan, Carniceria El Torito 2, or even a half dozen others within a mile radius. In spite of the best parking lot for any Mexican joint in KCK and a reasonably attractive exterior, this place is a hot mess. The fare leans towards large caldos with pork, potatoes and carrots. The street style tacos are thumbs up, and the rice is particularly savory, better than most. Fish in a spicy broth with hints of peppers ended up in front of me and was just fine. The requisite Mexican cokes, Jarritos are available, and yet you can grab a bottle of beer to have with lunch which is more an exception than the rule in this part of town. The seared jalapenos on the sauce bar were perfect--not too hot, done just right. I's clear they have their fans, and for that I have to say they are A-OK in my book, but you have to wonder how long they're be here in this slowly burgeoning area of town. Drive down the street a couple of blocks and there's a spanking new espresso shop, possibly the city's finest BBQ (Slap's), a couple of hipster sports bars, and the building that held the former Rice & Bean Cafe has been razed, no doubt for a sparkling new whatever going next door to the tricked out convenience store. Hold strong, Frontera's. There's a place for you here with your steaming bowls of soup bringing smiles to the faces of the three elderly Hispanic folks sitting down and across from us at lunch. Next time I'm needing a dive experience I'll be back. Note to Andrew K. who wrote a spectacular review: I did not ask the waitress at El Torito 2 out, but she did ask about you.

Frontera's is a casual, low-key taqueria I have passed by countless times on Central avenue on my way to other delicious taco places. Each time I see the sign advertising 99-cent tacos I always say to myself "I'll try that next time." Which is a lie, because I always forget to go. Today I got honest, and I'm glad I did. Quick highlights: Off-street parking Dollar tacos $3 beers Excellent carne asada. Good al pastor. Telenovelas on more than one screen, so you can be sure not to miss a moment. Frontera's is a great addition to the landscape. It's very much a pragmatic taqueria, no pretense. The food is good, and the carne asada is particularly delicious. Perfect for: Casual lunches People who love cheap tacos and cheap beer Telenovela enthusiasts Business lunches if you're in a cool business where you don't have to be fancy but you want somewhere out of the way to talk. Like if I was making a movie where the detective had to meet up with their undercover agent, it would totally be here. Bar mitzvahs, but only if you're cool like that. People who when you ask the waitress at El Torito out and she turns you down hard and you need a place to get your taco fix without feeling judged or facing up to your inadequacies as an adult human and potential life partner. Maybe that's you. Maybe you're that kind of person.

My 10 yr old son and I love this place. 1 dollar tacos all day everyday are hard to come by, and when they are this delicious albeit no frills, how can you go wrong
