Absolutely PHENOMENAL. I attended a catered event of Pepe's and it was amazing! (I apologize for not taking pictures!) Some of the things people said, "I felt like I was on a cruise ship!" and "this is the best catering I've ever had!" AND "I've never had tacos this good!" Sometimes the warmed tortillas turn gummy when they've sat for a little while, but not in this case! The texture of the tortillas was perfect. Also, the salad / slaw!! Sometimes the rice and beans can feel heavy to me, but the slaw was a fabulous balance. I just loved it. AND - the salsas!! Guys, it was sooo well done. Thank you Pepe's!

This place deserves more recognition - it's the most unsuspecting place, and you'd question if you're even in the right parking lot. It's next to a liquor store, there's no restaurant sign - this is how you know it's going to be authentic. When inside, it's pretty bare, not really a dine in place. There's a big counter to order from. I got some tacos, a burrito, and tamal preparado to share - all for a total of $24. It ended up being so much food that we couldn't even finish the burrito. The tamal preparado is hefty - it's made out of steamed dough, although I could be wrong on this. The texture is a little interesting, and I'm not sure I would get the tamal preparado again compared to the tacos or burrito, but it was good to try! Meats inside were fantastic, well seasoned and well flavored. And the condiments! Loved the salsas (they gave us so much) and there was also a spicy chili oil type condiment that was delicious. You can also order carnitas by the pound - if I were to go back, this is definitely what I would do. Cheap, plentiful, flavorful - this is what meal prep dreams are made of. Finally the horchata. Hands down some of the best horchata I've ever had. You gotta get it. Creamy, smooth, cinammony, sweet and refreshing. 10/10.

This is my all time favorite spot. It's not a sit down restaurant and although the entrance may be visible in the front you must enter through the rear where there is plenty of parking. You can buy it by the pound or by the serving but the food is fresh, hot and great. Excellent fresh tortillas you can buy hot and by the pack as well as all sides and fixings. Service is fast so don't let the lines worry you, they move very fast. They also do catering. My suggestion is the slow roasted pork "carnitas" that is what keeps me coming here every Saturday. Get there early or stand the chance of them running out as it's a favorite in this local area.

The prices are more than reasonable and the food is excellent!! It seems like they do the majority of their business as take out but there are a couple of seats to sit inside the place. I cannot recommend this place enough!!

Pepe's Carnitas location is a bit out of the way if you aren't familiar with the old business district of the Argentine neighborhood of KCK. The area has certainly seen better days and Pepe's isn't doing anything to help with it's lackluster appearance and generic interior. As of July 2021, they are still only offering carry-out with about a dozen tables blocked off. I have never been a fan of carnitas, but since they have built a business out of this stewed pork meat, I decided to order it in a taco format. They also serve Birria and Adobada style meats and burrito or tamales in typical Michoacán style. The price per taco is only $2 and they offer plenty of meat per taco to make the dish a bargain. Unfortunately I was not won over by the experience and will probably continue to avoid carnitas. The flavor was lacking and I was left with a mouthful of chewy shredded pork with raw cabbage. The friendly service and value should be a reason for carnitas lovers to visit, but I will probably pass on a return.

This place is absolutely incredible. Kansas City should be known for this place, not for bbq. Q39 can kick rocks compared to these carnitas. The juiciest carnitas I've ever had. I'm gonna end up eating this place every week.

Busy place, lot calmer on Friday's. GREAT food and friendly staff though, truly a hidden gem! Food sold by the pound with options of having prepared tacos, tamales, and burritos.

I really enjoyed my order because the Birria, shredded pork, and flour tamales were absolutely delicious and made my mouth water. Despite being busy, the service was good and the staff were still very nice and sweet. Also, the place was clean and had lovely colors.
