Food was excellent and portions were worth the price. Service was outstanding and on time. The ambiance is traditional.

This place sits a touch off of Indep. Ave. on a confusing 3 way intersection with it's entrance facing away from the street. Then after you get there, you're not sure you want to go in - the proverbial hole in the wall establishment; once inside, the interior is just as bad. The menu is varied and a bit pricier than I was expecting since they are definitely not paying Plaza or P and L rent. I ordered 2 of their signature Korita tacos and a small shrimp cocktail. The small cocktail was not listed on the menu. I didn't want the $15 one and asked if they had a smaller one and they did for $10. It was not as good as most I've experienced. Not enough citrus tang and the shrimp seemed to be room temperature, although they were plentiful and so was the avocado. I wouldn't re-order. What I would reorder and make a return trip for is their namesake tacos. Grilled steak and shrimp on a freshly cooked and slightly crispy soft tortilla with fajita style veggies and avocado slice. $3.50 each. Perfect! Service was polite and solid. Chips and sauce were sub average - red sauce watery, and chips room temperature. Tacos 5 stars. Everything else 3 stars.

My search for Mexican is over. I found it at el korita. Handmade tortillas are like fresh-baked bread to me, and el korita does them right in both corn and flour. The horchata was fantastic and I loved the bits of ground almond on the bottom. It helped cool down the fire left by the tart and spicy shrimp ceviche, made to order so you'll have to wait for the lime to do it's magic. The carnita and beef tongue tacos were amazing. Don't be scared of the tongue. Honestly, it's just super tender boiled beef. I wouldn't bother with the fajitas. Although, my less adventurous dining partners gravitated towards it. Not only was the food great, but the service was wonderful. Don't be intimidated by el korita's appearance. Just think of it like a coconut. Hard and gritty on the outside, but soft and sweet on the inside.

Here's proof of the need to venture out to places unknown to dine, in areas of town you've never been to, a reason to stop driving by that same place you've driven by so many times. Because doing so, you just may get lucky and have a spectacular meal and human experience as we did today. Headed to a known dive destination on lowly Independence Ave. I hadn't been to in awhile, it turned up closed. We tried another known restaurant close by. Nope, only open for dinner until late. Third option, hmmm, Tacqueria El Korita looks good. Oh, and how it was. Chavela beer with Clamato for a couple of guys that spent time in small towns in western Kansas? Oh yes, please. Lime, celery salt and something else red and spicy on the rim. Wow... Both had the taco trio with rice and beans. Interesting single wrapped tacos in street style, the tortillas a bit thicker and more savory served with savory pork, beef and chicken, cilantro, raw onions and accompanied with limes. Sadly, tripas not available but we'll return for those. Good chips, good sauces, good service, and the best: the owner, an older lady who is the cook and owner stops by and chats with us, asks how we liked our meal. Polite, gracious, thanking us for stopping, a lovely lady for sure. Look, there's nothing fancy going on here. It's a bit of dive factor, but the food is fantastic, the people nice, and what's to not like? Sometimes I don't know what is a four or five-star rating and sometimes I just don't care. I adore places like this. They're treasures. You can have your Power & Light District with it's pretense and overpricing. I'll take Tacqueria El Korita over anything there. Any time.

Okay, so this update is based only on the tacos. We've been multiple times, and have to say the standard tacos have been disappointing. I had a friend who loved his first carne asada taco and ordered another, but the next one that came out was nowhere near as good. But the house speciality tacos? Those are consistently excellent. I haven't tried the rest of the menu, and I should. For tacos alone, there's only one thing to get - anything else is likely to be disappointing. But that one thing is fantastic.

Best taqueria in town, in my humble opinion. Similar to what you would find in California. Friendly staff, great food, generous portions, reasonably priced. Minor room for improvement in the physical arrangement and ordering experience.

Of all the Mexican restaurants on the Ave (and I've tried most of them), El Korita is my favorite. Their tortillas are hand made, and delicious. The restaurant is a little hard to find, as it is not exactly on the avenue, but slightly tucked away half a block south. It is worth finding it. I would eat here in a heartbeat.

Goodness gracious. Do not judge this book by its cover. Taqueria el Korita is a little hidden, a little dingy, and definitely not all that impressive from the outside. Once you are inside, however, excellent food awaits. Two negatives first - on the day we went, it was extremely hot in the dining room, and quite smoky. I'm not sure if this is a regular occurrence, or if it was just that day, but it did take away from the experience a little bit. However, not even that was enough to detract from my stars. Simply put, the food was incredible. When you have eight people going place to place (seven places in all), it doesn't seem like everyone would agree that any single stop was the best, but overwhelmingly everyone loved Taqueria el Korita the most. I had the adobado taco, and it was absolutely fantastic. We had groups of two or three seated at three tables, and everyone was served promptly and got lots of attention. In fact, one of the cooks (an owner?) came out to apologize because when she saw such a big group, she was afraid they were going to be out of something we wanted. I think everyone got exactly what they preferred, but she was very sweet about worrying over us and hearing about our taco tour. There was a little bit of a language barrier, but her friendliness overcame that. I can't wait to go back and eat some more of those delicious tacos.

No quiero Taco Bell! Not with El Korita right down the road, that's for sure. Everything we've tried has been fresh, favorful, and perfectly seasoned. It's hard to pick just one dish as a favorite but if I had to, it would be the Camarones a la Diabla - best seafood I've had in a restaurant in a really long time.

Went in alone, on a very busy Sunday. I only had to wait a couple mins to be seated. The server was very friendly and spoke perfect English. The menu was surprisingly more expensive than I anticipated. It's not going to break the bank or anything, but more than most places around here. I opted for this place over el torrito because of all the great reviews I've read of this little shack. I looked at the wide selection, but I was only here for the tacos. Tongue tacos to be specific. The don't have tongue tacos the server explained. That's fine, I'll take 2 chorizo and 2 carne asada and one corona please. One hour later, that's right. One hour later I finally was brought my 4 tacos. They gave me chips in salsa as I waited. The chips and salsa was Mediocre at best. When the long grueling hour finally awarded me my tacos I was damn near full from the chips and salsa. I however was very happy to give them a try. The chorizo tacos where very good and the tortillas where fresh and you could tell they where homemade. The carne asada tacos where fine. A little dried and over cooked, but fine. Over all, meh. I wish I would have just stuck with el torrito. If I ever come back here, it will only be if it's dead. I doubt I will be back though.
