I have been coming to this restaurant for the last 2.5 years. It's a small family owned business. Everything is made fresh when ordered. The ladies are all very sweet. I've tried the albondigas, Caldo de res, pozole, fideo, tamales, tacos, tortas, and much more. Everything tastes great. I've never had a complaint. The tamales are so full of flavor. I recommend this place to those passing through and are hungry.

The food is hot and fresh. Prices are pretty high for not having chips and salsa. Would be nice to have ice with our drinks. I'm glad they got new tables though. But nice hole in the wall.

Just stopped in for lunch date with the wife and this place far exceeded my expectations. I knew it was going to be good I've eaten at the other location in strawberry hill but wow delicious!!! I had the asada torta and my wife had a chicken burrito. They might have the best horchata in the city too. The staff was very friendly and we will definitely be back for more. If you love authentic Mexican cuisine you found it here.

A very small restaurant with good food. The inside has a counter and three or four tables, but the drive thru window was pretty busy. I enjoyed my chicken chimichanga, which was served smothered in red sauce with a small side of queso. Refried beans and rice were included, too. I finished it, but I probably should have taken a container to go. Service is cheerful and happy to help.

I didn't think much of this place when I first went, but this summer it has emerged as our favorite of the nearby Mexican options. It's good all-around. I haven't had an individual dish that was best in class, but everything we've had has been enjoyable. I'm partial to their sopes. The tacos are tasty but not superlative, but in pocket sandwich form with cheese and lettuce that same meat works even better. The bean and avocado tostadas are also a favorite, and the salsa has a nice flavor to it. The last thing that sets it apart is consistency: other nearby places can have wider swings between good days and off. Tarahumara keeps it tighter - when you're in the mood you won't be risking disappointment. I now see why this place is well-loved by the neighborhood. I'm officially won over. This is as good as it gets in this part of town.

I had the quesa birria tacos... they were absolutely delicious. I asked for no plastic utensils and they listened. Don't come if you're in a rush. I drove up to the drive thru at 2:15pm- a sign said it was open. I was the third car in line and the line was slow. When I got to the window, it was open but nobody was there, even though I heard people back in the kitchen. I called out a few times- a woman in the kitchen walked by and looked at me but didn't stop. I was about to drive away when finally I saw a man in there and called out to him- he slowly got a different woman to come to the window to help me. There is a menu posted 2 car spots behind the window but you have to memorize exactly what you want because once you get to the window there is no menu. I got the 4 quesa birria tacos for $16 (pricey). She took my money and then told me to wait 10-15 minutes and then come back to the window because there was somebody behind me in line. I was in a bit of a hurry, hence doing the drive through, so this was a bit stressful. The whole drive through experience took 20 minutes. Just be mindful of the timeline and the can't-be-bothered service, but the food is delicious.

Food is great. Friendly service and clean dining area. This little gem is easy to pass up if you only visit the larger corporate Mexican resturaunts. You are missing out if you don't give it a try.

This tiny restaurant is big on flavor, but plan to take your meal to go or else eat quickly. It's not a place to linger. Inside there's a 4-top, a 2-top, and 6 bar stools for seating. No restroom on the premises. There's a drive-thru and you order by phone with the number posted outside. You can also walk in and order at the counter. Just like the other location of this restaurant the food is delicious. Consistently good and some of the best beans and rice in the city. I had the pork verde this time and I would order it again in a heartbeat. It's incredibly flavorful and just the right amount of food. I discovered the two Tarahumara locations through the KCK Taco Trail and they've both landed a slit on my permanent rotation of really good Mexican food in Kansas City.

This met my high standards for inexpensive Mexican food that's a VALUE. That's really my only high standard. I like locally-owned places and this fits the bill. Tamales had a little too much breading for my tastes but otherwise everything else I've tried here was really authentic and solid! No liquor that I saw which makes a good lunch option. I think it's the owner that took my order, was really nice. Table seating is limited but it sounded like they do a lot of take out biz.
