Really liked the ambiance- felt like stepping back in time. Service was ok- sort of attentive, sort of not. Really liked my steak soup! Caesar salad tasted spicy, like wasabi? Wasn't expecting that... I will likely skip it next time.

Best burger in KC. I said what I said. Burger was fresh and tasty, bacon was smokey and the bun was perfect with it being buttered and toasted on the burger side. The homemade chips with their house made ranch with a pinch of dill was 10/10. The cafe (next to Golden Ox) is in a 100 year old historic stockyard business building. Still has the original tile, stairway and office spaces. The cafe is relaxed, has a local feel and a historic ambiance. Steak soup was good but burger is a waaay better choice. Chocolate chip cookie is a good finish!

The Ox Café is an extension of the legendary Golden Ox nestled just north of the restaurant at the main entrance to the historic Livestock Exchange Building. A very cool lobby with sculpture, paintings, photos and within the Ox are added artifacts and old school charm with lots of dark wood and glass. Arriving at 11am, I ordered from the all day breakfast menu and had a single biscuit and gravy, a side of fries and a drip coffee. They use Broadway Roasters so no issues with the java - they also have an espresso machine with a full menu for caffeine options. Fries were the crispy coated style and were great, B&G was peppery and the biscuit fresh. My 2 slight complaints was the temperature of the gravy could have been a few degrees hotter and the price point for the bowl of fries should have been a tad less. Six bucks for fries at a diner is a bit overboard. 3.5 stars for food and rounding up for good coffee, ambiance and efficient staff.

Greta place to have brunch! Visit artist studios after or go antiquing and thrifting in West Bottoms. Decent menu of items with eggs and baked goods. Wish the opening times were more regular, often closes early.

Well since it's basically the ONLY lunch spot in the west bottoms it gets a decent review. I've been eating here for years, great food and coffee but it's a damn expensive lunch. I'd rather walk to Longboards any day. But it's all we got. Ever since Chandler hasn't been able to work the service has kinda tanked. Hard to get silverware or water now much less coffee refills. Chandler was the best. But I will keep coming here until they start to get more lunch competition.

It's so nice to have another lunch option in the West Bottoms! This is a great spot to grab a quick lunch. The coffee is great too!

Took my team to the Ox Cafe for burgers yesterday. $15 for a burger plus extra for bacon felt like a little much for a cafe where you order at the counter. But the burgers were delicious, the fries were delicious, and the service was friendly and fast. There's a very good chance that we'll go back. Note to cafe owner: Please consider putting your phone number, hours and menu online. I had to tell my team that I wasn't 100% sure that this place was open or currently had burgers, and that we were taking our chances by driving down there to check it out.

One of the best weekday lunch spots downtown. Great food. Possibly the best fries I've ever tasted. I've not had a meal less than wonderful. Prices are pretty reasonable, they do serve alcohol, and the decor is cute, retro Golden Ox steakhouse inside. (N.B.: No steaks available at lunch. This is a salad and sandwich and breakfast place.) Never crowded, but busy around lunch. Parking plentiful behind the building.

I spent $22 on to breakfast, this was a to-go order they're both placed in one box, which I'd ask them to do. I only got one side of hash browns, which look like they were deep fried in a deep fryer, almost an edible. I ordered my eggs over medium, they count came out almost over hard. And the bacon seemed as if it was deep fried as well. Literally the worst breakfast I've ever had. And I will never be back.
