Zebra Room is the dining room inside Holiday Inn Downtown Kansas City--Aladdin. Since it was a cold and wet morning, I didn't feel like venturing out in the area, so I decided to eat in here. Though it was past 7:30, there was no one beside me eating breakfast--it was Monday morning, and perhaps not too many guests came in on Sunday. I learned they only offer breakfast buffet when the occupancy is high since they have to refresh it every 30 minutes. Incidentally, there is no mentioning of buffet on the menu (limited offer). Maitre d'/server was not overly friendly or cheerful, but she was courteous and efficient. Since I was very hungry, I tried their Western Skillet. It was nice and hot-- two eggs (scrambled) were done well, ham (smoked and chopped; not too much though) and veggies (peppers and onion) were OK (some onions were burnt), and there were lots of potatoes (more than I can eat in one sitting). Overall, it was good, but not the best I had. You can eat here if you don't feel like going anywhere else early in the morning. Overall, fair to good experience.

One Star is Far Too Generous. This was the worst dining experience I have had in recent memory. Ordered Casodillias for an appetizer. Was brought 2 tortillas quartered with something resembling cheese & some onions in it. Got something red But was not salsas and some sour cream. had to ask for small plates & utensils. I ordered Fettuccine with grilled chicken. What I got was a plate of penne pasta with a watery white sauce. What that was I have no idea. It was not Fettuccine. The side dish of broccoli was hard as a rock don't have a clue how they managed to screw that up too. My Wife got a Chopped Salad with Chicken. It was not a chopped salad but it was a plate of Lettuce and little else. This disaster cost over 50 dollars took 45 minutes from the time we ordered and was largely inedible. Too add insult to injury the garage charged us another 6 bucks. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Breakfast. Service was excellent very attentive and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere. Buffet looked very good, but we opted for the menu. Wife had French Toast and I ordered biscuits and gravy. All breakfast meals were full service: your choice of meats, and eggs cooked to order. If you eat here, come hungry.

Breakfast-4stars! The skillet was delicious Service -2 stars and only because she was friendly or I'd give a No star. But the service was excruciatingly slow. They were closing up by 11 so we were the last ones to come in and it was clear they were trying to clean up to close instead of taking care of getting our order and refilling water and coffee.

I enjoyed my stay so much at the Holiday Inn Aladdin that I wish I could give a more positive review. I definitel would avoid the restaurant in the mornings. Their breakfasts were served cold and the wait staff was extremely slow. I was the only customer on one occasion an still struggled to get their attention. They offer a breakfast buffet on weekend mornings which was varied but the hot dishes were cold. Staff seemed to feel a buffet meant their job ended when you chose the buffet. The hotel is located in the downtown area of Kansas City where there are many wonderful restaurants and I chose to brave the 10 degree weather and walk to a nearby place for breakfast after the 2nd day. That being said their dinners were pretty good and the evening staff was exceptional. I loved the french onion soup.

This was the 2nd time we had tried to eat here. The 1st was a Sunday and they were closed so we left. This time it was a Friday night at 8:30pm and they close at 9pm, but the waiter was more than happy to seat us and serve us. There was 7 in our party and a friend and I ordered the Turkey Club and shared it. It was rather large so enough food for two and it came with really good white truffle oil fries. The sandwich was ok. The turkey was a little mushy but tasted fine. Another friend had the sliders and he said they were good. Two other friends also split the turkey club and had fried provolone. The other couple split a burger and had duck fat fries that were amazing. The waiter was super nice and made extra sure there was no dairy on my plate or even near it. He brought the sauces out on a separate plate. I thought that was above and beyond the call of duty. Even though the service was great the food was just ok. I would go back and eat fries but probably pass on the rest.

This is a review for their breakfast, and contrary to what some other reviews say, we had a great experience both times that we went. $13.50 will get you their breakfast buffet that includes unlimited coffee/juice, made-to-order omelettes, a waffle bar, an oatmeal bar, yogurt, fruit, pastries and several chaffing dishes full of traditional American breakfast food like bacon, eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuits and gravy. The quality ranges from average to pretty good, with nothing being bad. You're sure to find something to satisfy you. Combine that with as many employees as customers (again, this is my experience, even though other reviews say something different) and a good atmosphere, and I can't ask for much more.

Food was fair. My daughters Mac and cheese looked like shredded cheese melted on pasta. My Alfredo sauce had good flavor but was terribly runny. The club chips were good but the spicy ketchup tasted like straight Siracha sauce. Waiter couldn't have been any less competent. Either it was his first night and he had zero training or he was a few sandwiches short of a picnic. They gave us a used kids menu that someone had already colored. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

The salad was alright. It had died out onions and a cucumber slice. I only say it was alright because of the fresh greens. I ordered the Pasta with alfredo. It was something similar to a frozen meal. Everything in the place appeared to be dirty. The table was dirty, my wine glass was filmy and I overheard the table next to me complaining about it too. Way too much money for what you get.
