Summertime is a good time for tacos on the boulevard. Tacos El Gallo has a great menu full of choices for all eaters. My little had chicken fingers and fries, mama had birria tacos and I got three street tacos. The condiment bar is so good for choosing your level of spice for pico and salsa. The food comes out quickly and fresh. You can dine inside or out, weather permitting.

A hidden neighborhood favorite! I got the Birria Pizza which was excellent and so unique. It serves 2-3 easily and was super flavorful. I loved that it came with a side of the soup for dipping just like classic Birria tacos would. We also tried the fried elote and I was really impressed with how tender the corn was! Not greasy at all. And of course we had to get a Mexican Coke! The staff were super friendly and welcoming. It's an order at the counter and then seat yourself system. There's only 5 tables inside, but the patio is fairly large considering the location. We took ours to go though since it's just a couple streets from my place.

The birria tacos were so good!! I really loved the flavor all around: the tortilla, the meat, the consome, the salsa diabla. The salsa is quite spicy but perfectly so to me. The order comes with a good amount of tacos (four) as they are on the smaller side but I don't think they could have been better.

The tacos were delicious that I wish I can eat those every day and my taste buds wouldn't be tired. However, the tamale was not very soft to eat but otherwise the flavor was good. The salsa and topping options were great including the option of pico de Gallo. On the bright side, the service was relatively fast since I only had to wait a couple of minutes to get the food after ordering at the counter.

The food was so delicious and fresh and it was a very reasonable price. The service was very quick and friendly and everything was clean. I will definently be coming back.

I'm a big fan of the original location on Southwest Boulevard, so I was excited to see the restaurant place it's second home in this Mission neighborhood. I'm a bit basic and mostly go with breakfast or tacos. It's not fancy, but it's a good solid meal served in filling portions. Some salsa from the condiment bar adds a little kick. The inside is small and can get cramped in a rush.

Tacos El Gallo has something to crow about - they have opened their 2nd location and first on the Kansas side. The gritty urban feel of their original is replaced with a sleek suburban stripmall feel - just the way Johnson County city planners insist. The ambiance may not be authentic, but the menu and recipes remain "muy autentico". My recent Saturday afternoon visit left me satiated with my trinity of barbacoa, asada, and pastor tacos topped with some pickled onions, spicy green sauce, and pico from the plentiful salsa table. For a few perfect moments I even forgot that I was in JOCO! Great stuff, great pricing. I also took home a 1/2 dozen tamales for my wife. She stated they were delicious, but I wouldn't know for sure since she ate all 6 within 2 days and refused to share.

I liked the first-rate service, the fairly reasonable prices and the good salsa heat options during my dine-in lunch at this new restaurant. The El Mexican plate ($9.99) was ready just five minutes after I ordered at the counter. It included three fresh, warm, double layer, 4.5" street tacos with generous amounts of my choice of nine protein options (shrimp and fish dishes are also available separately), along with rice, refried beans and access to a pretty good toppings bar with sour cream and several toppings and salsas of various heat levels from mild to salsa diabla. They did not offer complimentary chips & salsa. I found the staff to be cheerful, polite and professional, while the dining area was clean and basic. I also noticed the staff's focus on cleanliness during my visit - nice! The menu included breakfast, meals for the kiddos, aguas frescas, a soda dispenser, margaritas and various bottled beers. They also offered a patio area with music. Very nice!

The owner of this place is smart. She's managed to nestle not just one but two taco shops in locations where their arrival is greeted with joy and gratitude. That's impressive once, but twice? Savvy. We have settled on their carne asada burrito spread as our go-to to-go. Drenched in cheese sauce, but not fried like a chimichanga, because we keep it healthy (obviously). The team is nice, the outdoor seating is perfect for spring and fall, it hits lots of great notes for a small but mighty neighborhood institution. The one thing I would change would be the door handle. Having a push bar when you need to pull it open is confusing and we all together must demand better for society. Unless this is that seemingly nice woman behind the counter playing an elaborate prank on the rest of us, in which case, fair play you devilish genius.
