This restaurant, Mariscos KC #2, is a spinoff of Mariscos KC #1 located in Olathe. We were very impressed by the restaurant's excellent Mexican seafood. It is far better than the usual Tex Mex food. A few years ago, there was a Marisco (Spanish for seafood) restaurant in Lawrence, but unfortunately it closed. The seating is comfortable, the dining room attractive, the music enjoyable, the service excellent, and the food far better than the Mexican food we are accustomed to in Lawrence, although we are beginning to get Latin restaurants including South American food in Lawrence. The full bar options at Mariscos KC include an admirable list of nonalcoholic mocktails, but oddly no nonalcoholic beers, not even Corona NA beer. I got the iced tea which was provided with four slices of lime. I enjoyed it. We got the Ceviche Starter with both shrimp and fish. We enjoyed them, although either alone would have been fine. Next time we will probably get only the fish. We also got the Aguachiles Verdes (with green sauce), which was spicier than the Ceviche. We liked it a lot. Both the Ceviche and the Aguachiles come with crispy tostadas. You can spread the seafood on the tostadas or break up the tostadas and spread them on the seafood. We also got the Fish Filet with Shrimp, which were excellent. For dessert, I got the Churro Bites, which was provided in a surprisingly large serving. I had half of the dessert packed to go. Although the restaurant's specialties are Mexican seafood, there also are Italian and Cajun pasta options available. We will try them the next time we are there. If you arrive driving west from Kansas City on Shawnee Drive, continue passed the intersection with Interstate 35. You will then pass a main intersection with traffic light at Goddard Street. The next traffic light after Goddard is at Nieman Rd. Take a left onto Nieman Rd. heading south. The restaurant will be on the left (east) side of the street. We will be back --- for sure.

the food was phenomenal! i enjoyed the seafood boil - spiced to perfection. they had the necessary crab utensils/gloves. the mango michelada was the best i've ever had. i live in texas if that give me credibility for either of the the items lol. my dad enjoyed his tacos until a clean plate. large portions. employees are very sweet. note that they might not have a working AC on hot days, but they had every fan on in the state of kansas to cool it down enough to eat hot food

Went to Mariscos in Shawnee tonight. What a nice experience! They've redone the space nicely so it has a fun vibe. I do wish the music had been maybe 2 ticks quieter. But that's beside the point. To the experience: the waitress came over quite promptly. We started with a guacamole. It was interesting, in that it was topped with cucumbers. Not the best I've had but I don't know the last time I saw guac for $5 on a menu, so that was a pleasant surprise. Then we put in our orders: I got the shrimp fajitas with flour tortillas, my mom got the Mexican ramen, and my dad got one of the aguachiles. Food came out pretty promptly. My fajitas were delicious - and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Not sure if they were fresh flour tortillas but the definitely had a hint of smoke, so I appreciated that detail. My mom enjoyed her soup though it was on the hot end for her, since it had half a jalapeno cut up in it. So just be aware to ask for no jalapeño, if that would be too much for you. My dad loved aguachile, which came with tostadas and crackers and mayo on the side - I guess popular accompaniments. He said he preferred my fajitas but we all thought the food was quite good - though both of them were being adventurous and didn't know what to expect of their meals. We decided to finish with the churro bites and ice cream, since a $5 dessert didn't seem like enough for 3 people. Boy were we wrong, the dessert could easily have fed 4, if not 5 people so for $11 it was quite a deal. The ice cream was incredible - the coconut with thaw mango drizzle was SO GOOD. And for people wanting churros, these are really fried pieces of bread (maybe breadsticks?) in cinnamon sugar, not actual churros (fried dough). Anyway, we loved the friendly service and the food and aside from a suggestion to turn the music down a hair, I didn't have any complaints. Check it out!

Great food (music a little loud, they turned it down after I commented I couldn't hear the water). Ordered fish fillet with shrimp - very good - shrimp and fish cooked perfectly. Also ordered crab boil - bowl was full of fish meat- not just broth - excellent taste. Service was great.

Absolutely delicious!! We ordered the ceviche appetizer and it was a generous serving for a very reasonable price with great flavor. That was really filling but we also got the Baja tacos with all the flavors (shrimp, calamari, and white fish). The calamari and white fish were breaded with a perfect, crunchy coating and all the flavors were scrumptious. The Mexican ramen hits the spot if you're looking for a yummy, hot soup with a little kick. This is a great place if you're looking for tasty seafood or just great authentic Mexican food. We were very pleased with everything!

Amazing food. We ordered some cheese dip and ceviche to start both very satisfying. I order the Ramen, and he got the shrimp Alfredo. No complaints. I want to go back and try their crab legs that looked so delicious. Definitely my go to Mexican seafood place!

The place might look big in pictures but it's pretty mid. So expect it to feel claustrophobic during weekends while going out to eat lols. Food was great I tried the Cocktail shrimp one of my favorite and will come back again on. Date.
