I have used the Alvarado Transportation Center on numerous trips to Albuquerque, by plane and train. If coming in by air, there is a free shuttle from the airport to Alvarado Transportation Center, and if by train, walking half a block. On my most recent experience, yesterday, I arrived by train at 11:45 AM. My friend, who lives off Academy near San Mateo, would be home from work around 5, so my plan was to go pick up groceries for a festive dinner, then take the route 93 commuter to within 2 blocks of my friend's home. The Rapid Ride buses are fantastic! I went from ATC to Central and Louisiana, Ta Lin market, in under 20 minutes. Traveling along Central, I saw several Thai restaurants and made the decision to try one on the return trip. Returning toward downtown, I selected a route 66 bus as the Thai restaurants were between Rapid Ride stops but the 66 stopped across the street. After lunch, I proceeded back down to ATC. On arriving, I went and sat in the waiting area, as it was 2:30 PM and my express bus did not depart until 4:15. The security personnel in and around the facility are to be commended. Their presence is obvious, and if folks bring problems with them, the security personnel quickly deal with the problems. One lady had some sort of medical consideration; she fainted in front of the information desk. Very quickly, paramedics were called and the person on the floor was given protective space. I felt very comfortable with the whole experience. The suggestion I would offer is that the rapid ride buses I was on were never more than 1/4 full, but each route 66 bus I took was standing room only. Maybe switch out a couple of the articulated coaches for the standard on the route 66? Can't beat the price, either! $2 for a day pass?

I don't blame them. Many of my brushes with death or getting my ass kicked in ABQ have occurred on a bus or near a bus stop. Chicken buses in the Guatemalan Highlands are safer. When I declined it, he offered it to three other passengers. A female voice from the back of the bus screamed, "You need to get off the bus right now because I'm about to put you in the hospital. We're already right in front of Presbyterian; they can come scrape you off the street!" Wasn't sure she was talking to me but the scene was stressful, so I pulled the cable to request the next stop. A voice yelled "Whore! He's a fucking faggot. Don't worry, he's not interested in you!" Saw the pizza guy's mugshot on the news a couple weeks later in regards to a fatal stabbing at a Central Avenue and Wyoming bus stop. Ladies on the bus can pretend to be on the Bachelorette; speed-dating dudes freshly released from BCDC. A guy sat next to me on an empty bus and told me about his dream to become a journalist and how he used to be a reporter with the navy. I said cool! good luck! and then he asked for my number. I told him that I'm married, and then he told me that he took an AIDS test earlier that day. He said his ex-girlfriend of seven years was cheating on him and then asked for my number again. We approached my stop and I learned it was also his. He said, "Well this is it." Luckily, it was raining. I felt less awkward running the other direction. Once, I saw a boy of about ten drinking Arizona Iced Tea sitting in the oscillating section of the Rapid Ride while his father sat on an adjacent horizontal row. The man's arm was in a sling and he was covered with various scars, fresh bruises and abrasions. His son became increasingly animated and started surfing the center lane.The bus stopped abruptly; the kid yelled "WHOAAAA." When he almost fell, everyone was staring. The father yelled"SIT DOWN!" "Goddammit dad, this fucking sucks" the kid said and changed the subject to Cliff's Amusement park. "Dad, will you take me there when you get paid or when you get some money?" The father stood up, clutched the pole with his good arm and when the bus made another sudden stop, he took a hard tumble into the center aisle. The boy screamed. "Help! Stop! My dad's hurt!" It's true, $57 million dollars in federal funds might be put to better use than A.R.T. People might be more inclined to use existing public transportation if taxes were used to help people with mental illness and drug problems get off the street (and the bus). During peak hours, there is a smattering of UNM students and commuters. Unaccompanied small children use the bus to get to school. Maybe applying fed gov't $$$ towards education might help people embrace public transport. Almost half of New Mexicans are functionally illiterate! They could learn that in New Mexico driving/riding in a car is people's most deadly daily activity. I love the building here. It is a flash back to the original building that sat on this location in the past. It is a very busy place at time and people should be aware of their surroundings when they are here. It is a great hub for Greyhound, Amtrak, and city transit.

A old greedy woman driving the bus 51 to Atrisco on the Thursday 26 January 2023 was very rude, aggressive and racsist . This old greedy woman shouldn't ride buses. I firstly entered saying "hello" no answer no sign of politeness. Then i missed my stop. She then started to yell at me saying to come to her i didn t know why and for what reason. She continued to shout at me to come to her. I asked why. She said you didn t stop if you don t go out of the bus i will kick you out ! She was so aggresisve , a woman in the bus asked me where i want to stop at. I didn t give my attention this mean unprofessional driver. The woman helped me out.

Be very, very careful while at the Transportation Center. Had to take the bus for a few days while the car was being repaired. An all-day pass is only $2 (discounts for students, seniors, etc so check the website). Drivers can sell you the all-day passes; exact change is required. Staff are VERY friendly and helpful. You can use the website to figure out your route, but they will figure it out for you too if you are not sure. There is a hot dog stand that sets up in front of the ticket booth area. Public transportation is public transportation everywhere. I felt ok on the bus rides, but sat RIGHT by the driver, and had no problems at any of the stops. However, they've GOT to get some security at the Transportation Center. That area of town is awful anyway (I've been screamed at outside the theater across the street), and the Transportation Center seems to appeal to some of the shadiest characters. A man became WAY too interested in me, complimenting me, asking what bus I was taking, was pretty obviously masturbating, and then got on the same bus as me. I know I should've called the police, but I was exhausted and had an appointment I needed to get to. When he tried to sit by me I yelled at him, and eventually he got off the bus so I didn't have to worry about him trying to follow me. . Keep your head up, be aware of your surroundings, sit near other women, and don't hesitate to tell someone to get away if they are bothering you. From what I can tell, security falls on the shoulders of the drivers. I think public transportation is great, and it's probably not any better or worse in Albuquerque than anywhere else. The price can't be beat. Just be smart and careful!

The Amtrak staff isn't very organzized here or at my drop off in california. Everyone was giving contradicting information which resulted in me being separated from my bags and bike and when i was given my "assigned seat" i was told to sit wherever and the one i was sent to was completely full. Not impressed at all.

This place is not that bad. It is A-OK. Yes, it is located just off of Central, so you will get all of the riff raff. Trust me, some of them are super shady. But, that is to be expected for most parts of Central. Thank goodness there are officers who patrol the area on foot and by bike. This helps deter trouble. I like this location because the Rail Runner stops here. There is also a few city bus stop locations here, and both the Greyhound and Amtrak companies stop here. Good job Alvarado Transportation Center.

Staff is not friendly at all. Restrooms were closed for no apparent reason. Was told by an employee to get a key from front desk for the family restroom. The woman stated they lost that key months ago. I said, "well where are people supposed to use the restroom?" She just shrugged her shoulders & didn't care to find a solution. If you are needing overnight parking, it is a huge hassle. You have to go to parking & permits at the city to purchase parking. They only have overnight or long term (1 month) for $35.

Alvarado Transportation Center (ATC) is the new home of Albuquerque's multimodal transit hub: Amtrak, Greyhound, New Mexico Rail Runner commuter rail, and local bus lines. The Mission Revival-style ATC was designed to be reminiscent of the old buildings downtown, it's designed with many architectural elements borrowed from the old Alvarado Hotel. The ATC also features a clock tower, located on the northwest corner of the building.

I arrived at this terminal from an Amtrak train and caught a Greyhound bus. There is a lot this terminal does right, but there is still a lot of things that could be done better. First, I will start with some of the good. I appreciate that this terminal allows people to connect with multiple types of transportation as it allowed me to make a trip that would have otherwise been impossible due to the lack of Amtrak infrastructure at may actual destination. I also liked that there were actually customer service representatives to talk to and a restaurant to eat at. I cannot comment on much of the infrastructure, but the customer service lines were overwhelmed and difficult to ask questions to with a short connection time. One nice thing was they had a flat screen TV with the Big Bang Theory on in the Greyhound waiting area. Not the problems begin. First, there was inadequate signage from the Amtrak terminal explaining where to enter the terminal and I only managed to find it through exploration and the Greyhound logo above the door. The terminal WiFi was broken because they failed to implement sufficient security to prevent someone from torrenting copyrighted works so the ISP had terminated their service. The vending machines available were not all credit card equipped with the drink vending machine really needing a credit card upgrade. Another huge complaint is that the terminal does not have enough seating in the bus section to even accommodate one bus worth of passengers let alone the four busses the terminal seems to be designed for. Although I didn't personally have a problem with security, I will caution out of town traveller's to follow at least basic security practices. I don't think you are in danger from pick pocketing, but I would not leave my bags unattended either.
