This local shop is nothing fancy. However, it is working to assist people with getting a new footing. While the staff is not the fastest as times they are caring and want to help you. The choices are nice and the prices are in line with other places in the downtown area.

Ever wonder what affect you have when you shop local, as opposed to doing the franchise thing? Try this on for size: for every $100 you spend in a locally-owned, independent store, $68 of that comes back to your community in the way of taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. When you shop at a national chain, only $43 comes back. That's a huge reason why I love this website, it steers me to great local finds that deliver an even better bang for your buck than the national brands, and I can walk out of the shop with my head held high. Your dollars are best spent at shops like The Coffee Shop. First off, I'm gonna poke that Seattle coffee conglomerate in the eye, here: where's the downtown love? I can't think of a single location anywhere downtown (I hear there's a little stand somewhere, but what, they can't put up an actual cafe? Their loss). This astounds me. But it's also a blessing, because it has folks like me finding a better cup and tastier eats at places like Java Joe's and The Coffee Shop. And while Java Joe's offers that hipster, let-me-recover-with-my-hangover-in-peace vibe, The Coffee Shop delivers a clean and surprisingly neighborly feel, the kind of place where if you're a regular, they'll know you by name. It was clear from my reading of the lunch crowd that the coffee was a hit, and my Albuquerque Turkey sandwich definitely hit the spot. Nothing fancy, just the basics: sourdough, cheddar, tomato, deli slices and plenty of medium-spicy green chile. The place serves a variety of paninis, salads, breads and treats. I'm not here to rave about the food, though it hit the spot. I'm here to applaud the business model. So I've taken in my share of strays. It's part of life, especially in Albuquerque. More than once I've heard a kitten meow outside the front door and instantaneously forged a relationship with an animal which, for one reason or another, lost their way. This is what St. Martin's hospitality center provides for the least fortunate among us, and The Coffee Shop is an extension of these efforts. The shop offers work training experience for people who've taken shelter from the street and wish to return to the job force. For four months, employees train in the arts of the barista and deli chef, and then they search out solid employment throughout the city. What an amazing way to provide a service alongside a great little cafe. Wowza, meowza! I love it. This holiday, spend your dollars locally at this terrific shop which does so much in return for the community. The Coffee Shop, like its trainees, should remain an extraordinary success story.

Stayed at the DoubleTree down the street and wanted something other than Starbucks. We were a little confused at first, since it's located in the main lobby of an apartment building. But then after I read the sign, I was really glad we stopped here. We were first helped by the manager, but then later by an employee, who was actually a resident. He was explaining to me how the proceeds of the shop, as well as the ability to gain work experience and customer service skills, has helped him, and he was very grateful we were there. He had some trouble with the cash register, but knowing that he was recently homeless, I can't fault him that. I went back and bought a coffee mug with their logo because I totally believe in what they're doing. The breakfast was delicious. I had the sandwich and my husband had the burrito. Same, insides, just different wrapper. Those green peppers added a wonderful kick. They also have dedicated off-street parking spaces in the back for coffee shop patrons.

Its an early Thursday morning, heading to the gym, stopping into The Coffee Shop before I get there. I live downtown so this place has become convenient for me. It's a great little place that is starting to get some attention. I love the sandwiches for lunch and the cinnamonrole, love love... Greg and Jerri are amazingly nice, very friendly and helpful. Free wifi, Free Parking, great location.

So, when you first walk in to The Coffee Shop, you don't really know what to make of it. It's weird, because it's pretty much located in the lobby of an office building, and the place doesn't have a back area for cooking, so everything is out in the open. But don't be fooled! This place has fantastic food. Being a fan of the comforting tuna melt, I decided to give The Coffee Shop a shot at one of my favorite sandwiches, and they hit it out of the park. While this place looks very unassuming, the food is top notch. And the fact that The Coffee Shop donates their profits to the homeless only makes it better. Stop in for a full belly and a happy conscience the next time you're in the neighborhood.

People are super crazy nice and the food is fresh and tasty. It is not mind-blowing or innovative or even 'gourmet', but rather just a nice lunch destination and a great cause to support (one of the local human services support organizations). I thought it might be weird to recommend a place because of their affiliations with a charity, BUT, I'd do the same thing to a good restaurant that practiced active farm-to-table good works, too - so how is this that much different, ethically? In short, it is a good option in the downtown area with good lunches and a good community vibe.

I enjoy this cafe, and the benefits that I've noticed is that the proceeds go to helping the homeless. I will forever support this place and their mission, because they have integrity and on top of that, I love helping and supporting the homeless. They also provide work training, which I think is freakin' amazing. Come by for a cup of coffee, tea, their awesome lemonade, a bagel and a Mediterranean wrap in one sitting! =P

A wonderful place for a cup of gourmet coffee, pastry, sandwich or fresh made soup! It is run by a trained chef who has owned and worked in many restaurants, she and her staff provide the best food and service possible. The best part of supporting this business is that it is not just a coffee shop... all proceeds fund programs at St. Martin's Hospitality Center. The Coffee Shop also serves as an employment training site for individuals attempting to leave the streets and escape poverty.

I stopped here last week on my road trip to the Grand Canyon with the family and it was ok. The barista wasn't very experienced, nothing special. I know this isn't the forum but.... Supposedly, it is a non-profit St Martins hospitality center... Why were we asked to donate a $1 to St Martins if it all goes anyway? I seriously doubt this coffee shop is as angelic as it claims.

Great place to grab coffee, a snack, or a surprisingly great sandwich for lunch! Located in a new affordable housing complex downtown, the Coffee Shop is a must-try. A venture of St. Martin's Hospitality Center offering employment opportunities for people who really need it, this place deserves your business. Rewards card, $1 coffee Tuesdays, lunch meal deals. You won't be disappointed. A few of my favorites for lunch are the Mediterranean wrap, ham and brie panini, and carne sloppy joe.
