I was very impressed with the zoo! For being in the middle of NYC, you feel like you’re not there while at the zoo! The exhibits they offer are very unique. The zoo was clean and well maintained when we went. The food at the zoo’s cafe was reasonably priced. We took about an hour to get through the zoo’s exhibits. Definitely a must do if going through Central Park.

The intimacy of this zoo is unmatched. The zoo keepers obviously love these animals as is evident during their care taken during feedings. It is “small” but I happen to think it was the perfect size- the closest I’ve ever gotten to some of these animals. Best penguin exhibit I’ve ever seen, best bird exhibit I’ve seen. Thoroughly enjoyed the petting zoo included in the tickets as well. Don’t listen to the reviews that say the animals are all sad and depressed- animals looked happy and well taken care of as much as they can be in a zoo like this (some of which are even native to the area such as the harbor seals). Also most animals featured are conservatory animals or endangered who NEED to be in this setting to survive and obviously have great specialized care. All in all, worth the money and the time, go for the 1:30 sea lion feeding and the 2:30pm penguin feeding. You won’t regret it :)

I found myself torn between visiting the Central Park Zoo and the Brooklyn Zoo, so I even asked a coworker who used to live in New York for their recommendation. They suggested Central Park, calling it iconic, so I decided to go with that choice—but in hindsight, I definitely should have chosen the Brooklyn Zoo. I knew the Central Park Zoo would be small, given its location in a narrow section of the park, but I was still surprised by just how tiny it was. We bought our tickets online, and thanks to my husband being a veteran, we got a great discount, which I’m incredibly thankful for—because if we had paid full price for the experience, I would have felt quite disappointed. We arrived right at opening at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday, getting there around 9:40 a.m., and were able to get in quickly when the gates opened. We were done exploring the entire zoo in about 25-30 minutes. While I did enjoy the exhibits, I really wished the zoo offered more. Overall, if you have time for just one zoo, I would recommend the Brooklyn Zoo over Central Park.

The popular Central Park Zoo is must see if you are visiting NYC with kids. Sea Lion, snow monkeys, Penguins, Grizzly Bear and the prized Snow Leopard will have you spend a fun couple of hours. After that you can also visit the children’s zoo and the 4D theatre which are included in the admission. The cafe also has a lot of kids options and open air seating. All in all a very fun day to spend with kids.
